Bolding mine. "Blah blah blah" is right. That's the standard commentary by those who oppose unions overall. RTW doesn't force workers to organize. There's lots and lots of non-union shops here in Wisconsin. If a union can't convince a majority of workers that being union is going to be a 'net positive', then the workers vote it down. RTW takes away a lot of the power that unions hold. Which isn't necessarily a good thing. If you think that management has the best interests of it's workers in mind when it makes decisions, you are fooling yourself. The mining industry comes to the top of my mind. Look at all the safety violations The Upper Big Branch accident in 2010 is a textbook example. But I have less of a problem with RTW than I do with the way it was shoved down our throats. It was introduced and passed by both state houses in record time. Polls have shown a majority of the public is against it. But the big money that owns Walker and the "Rs" wants it. The bill is almost an exact copy of what the Koch Brother's ALEC lobbying group wants. Are you comfortable with them writing laws? I'm not. Just like before, he fails to even mention any of this during his reelection campaign last year. But as soon as the new session starts, he rams through a piece of legislation his corporate owners want. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Republicans don't have the monopoly on crooks. No, but their overall policies and views and votes tend to attract big business more (which has more money to bribe them with). Abso-fucking-lutely hilarious that, here in Wisconsin, Governor Walker & the "Rs" have passed sweeping anti-union laws again. Last time he was re-elected, he outlawed union organization for public employees (except cops & firemen of course). No mention of this agenda during the election, of course. Just ram it through the first month they are in office. And they did it again. Right to work just passed. No mention of it at all during the election. Walker actually claimed he wasn't for it. Huge amounts of opposition. But not by anyone with huge amounts of money. I'm not union, nor am I a big fan of them. But I am in favor of the right to organize. Sort of like "I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend your right to say it." "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." G'day from Newcastle, Australia

Umm... No. You're nervous because you are planning on jumping out of a plane that's a couple miles above the ground. It's a very unnatural and counterintuitive action. EVERY instinct in your body will be screaming "DON'T DO IT!!!!" If that isn't happening then there is something wrong with you. But do it anyway. It's really cool. It would be nice if dz.com had an option to let users hide threads/posts from certain users so they wouldn't see them and waste time reading/posting/starting a flame war. You'd see a lot less PA's and bannings. +1 I have that option over on www.bikeforums.net, and it makes the experience *much* more pleasant! Fucking A! Well how about it guys? If it costs money to develop and implement the feature, hell, I'd help pay for it.

That is cool. I remember my folks made a skating rink in our backyard one year when I was a kid. Built up the snowbanks and flooded it. It took about 10 layers of ice (get the the first water down to soak the snow, let it freeze, get a half inch or so of water on top of that, let it freeze, repeat) to get it usable, we had to put a new layer of water down every few days (no Zamboni) and it wasn't really big (maybe 20' x 20'), but it was a lot of fun. Hear this one on NPR's Wait, Wait. Guy has been breaking into cars. Finds a Mercedes. Hits it with a rock, doesn't work. Goes and gets a brick... Sometimes, life is fair. Go to safety day and talk to the instructors. Just a guess (I'm not an instructor), you'll probably need a reasonable amount of ground 'refresh' stuff. Maybe sit through a FJC again. In the air, you may do an "AFF Style" jump and a couple coached jumps to be good to go. You shouldn't have to start from the beginning. Broke multiple laws no problem 3 years free tax refunds
wolfriverjoe replied to Anvilbrother's topic in Speakers Corner
The last time we had this conversation, I made a suggestion that some people actually liked. Grant those currently here illegally a path to legal residence, not citizenship. That is, if you came here illegally, you can never become a citizen. But there should be a path to legal residence. Make it cost something. Just pulling a number out of... somewhere, make it $5k. About the cost of a crappy used car. 6 months salary at minimum wage (not quite and gross income, but you get my point). And open the borders at least some more. Illegals are coming here because there is opportunity. They can find jobs that not only give them a living wage, but allow them to send money back to help their families. And there are more than a few jobs that illegals take because they are the only ones willing to take them. Slaughterhouses & meatpacking plants are the biggest that come to mind immediately. Well, according to the DOJ investigation, yes. They released their report this week. The shooting was considered justified. They found no evidence that MB was trying to surrender, or get away. They found that DW was reasonably in fear for his life when he pulled the trigger. HOWEVER... They found serious problems in the Ferguson PD. Some very blatant racism, including in departmental e-mails. Seriously high percentages of stops, arrests, citations and convictions of black people. Way out of line with the population. And to be honest, neither of those findings surprised me much. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Living in a surveillance state; not government, corporate.
wolfriverjoe replied to quade's topic in Speakers Corner
Usually businesses need "permission" to do business on somebody else's property. I would assume that this collection of data for profit on somebody else's property would need permission from that property owner. True. But most of those "permission" requirements are to stop outsiders from annoying the customers. This is pretty unobtrusive. And there's pretty much nothing to stop me from doing this "by hand." As in: If I'm trying to find someone, I don't know of any law that prevents me from going into a parking lot that is "open to the public" and taking a lap around it, looking for a specific car. These guys are just using technology to do it faster. And with a bigger "net". And does a community college count as private property? Again, I don't know. And I'm not trying to defend this practice. I don't find it as bothersome as Quade does, but I don't really like it. I just doubt that they are breaking any laws. As a matter of fact, I'll bet that they got some sort of "legal opinion" before they started doing it. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Unless they have permission from the landowner I would think that information is illegally acquired. Is it? That's a good question. Most search law applies to searches by "the government" (Law enforcement usually). This would fall under "invasion of privacy", I would think. Parking lots, even on truly "private property" (stores, malls, ect) are considered "Private property held open for public use" and have certain laws that do apply to them and others that don't. For example, you can't be arrested for driving drunk on private property, but you can in a mall parking lot. However, you can't get a speeding ticket (but you can get a "reckless driving"). And to muddy the waters even more, it's a community college. Which may classify as "public property." I really don't know. It's been a long time since I took "search & seizure" law. You do realize that there is no way for most people to legally immigrate here these days, right? With an ITIN. The IRS isn't allowed to share the info with "La Migra." A lot of illegals use the fact that they faithfully paid taxes for years to help gain legal status. http://www.businessinsider.com/how-illegal-immigrants-pay-taxes-2012-3 "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Ours do to. There's a thing called a "Barn." It's like a house for the cows. They throw off enough body heat that it stays pretty warm without much extra heat. Well, the Chief says it was, and his description makes it sound like it was. Which isn't at all surprising. They do have body camera footage. And "bystander" video. Which gives me a lot more faith in this investigation, although I think it would be best if they released all the video after the investigation is done. Perhaps not to the general public, but at least to independent investigators of some sort (not really sure who that would be). And they said they would release all the footage if there end up being any court proceedings (which are pretty likely at this point). I had a lot of trouble with side-slides. I finally did some coached tunnel time just before Christmas. The coach told me to "push off the wall" with both my arm and leg. As in, to slide right, keep my right leg and arm "normal", but push outward with my left arm and leg. Very similar to your drawing. It took a couple tries to get a good stable slide (no turning), but I had it down a lot faster than I expected. Being in the tunnel with the close reference perspective helped a lot too. Just my opinion, worth exactly what you paid for it (maybe not even that much) "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." How fit should a skydiver be?
wolfriverjoe replied to Ramzisleiman's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
The skydiver should fit in the plane. Sure! But, the problem is, some don't leave room for the rest of us to "fit in the plane". Yeah. We had a guy (instructor actually) who we used to kid for "increasing his wingloading without changing canopies." And when he was one of 4 stuffed into the 182, we'd often sing "Fat guy in a little plane" while taxiing out (Anyone else remember "Tommy Boy"?) There are a bunch of them. Most have some sort of release that needs to be pushed to release the pistol. A couple have multiple releases. With a bit of practice, the "release" actions become part of the normal "drawstroke." The releases are not hard to operate, you just have to know where they are. The problem occurs when the adversary knows about them too. I volunteer as a range officer at my local shooting range. I'm not a big fan of civilian open carry, for a variety of reasons. I had a guy who was a very vocal proponent of it, and he had one of the Blackhawk models. He was certain that it was ideal for open carry because it was impossible for someone else to take it out (or so he thought). He wasn't real happy with me when I came up right behind him and stood there for a few seconds (he wasn't paying attention to me), and then reached up and pulled the gun out of his holster. The easiest way is to get right behind them and use the same hand that they would, in the same orientation. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Fucker, do you have some kind a mental database that remembers all this shit or what?!??!?! I prolly hadn't thought or would have ever remembered The Omega Man for the rest of my days till now. You're a fookin savant with this shit. Go on Jeopardy or sumpin, would ya. I just remember seeing it on TV ages ago. ETA: I'll be damned; According to IMDB, "Omega Man" was a remake of this: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0058700/ And "I am Legend" was based on both of them (the one with Will Smith). All of them were based on the book "I am Legend" by Richard Matheson. Quade is right. Hollywood has no original ideas. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Care to post a link or quote about that, Professor? Not the "the only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun" quote, but something that says a gun is the answer to every situation? The NRA just advocates for the right to own, carry and use firearms. Everyone that I know that knows guns (including cops, instructors and lawyers) says quite clearly that guns have very limited uses. Primarily when facing that quoted "Bad guy with a gun." And that one should very carefully consider the totality of the circumstances before deciding to use or even just carry a gun. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Crazy people can be "crazy strong." And it's not the question of "Can 4 cops corral one guy?" as much as the question "Can one crazy guy get a gun from one of four cops?" I'm pretty sure they could have wrestled him down if they had enough time. His going for a gun changed the dynamic of the situation. Maybe the cops should have left their guns in their cars when they went to get the guy (not totally serious, but not totally kidding either). There's a reason cops leave their guns behind, locked up, when they go into the 'lockup' areas of jails and mental institutions. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit."
