  1. Three, not two. Gary IN, East Chicago IN, and Harvey IL are all pretty much "Greater Chicago Area." The definition is pretty vague, but all three of those are on the "Chicago" city map in the Rand McNally road atlas. So lets see. Three cities** which are NOT Chicago (and two of which are even in a different state) have higher murder rates than Chicago, which somehow indicates that walking through (non-existent) projects at night in Chicago is risky. ** That's three among at least thirty in the list. I see Hjaeda has been taking lessons in logic from rushmc. Well, it's 30 miles from Gary to Chicago (according to Google). The other two are even closer. While they certainly aren't "Chicago" (as in within the city limits), they are considered by many to be part of the "Greater Chicago Area." Just like the "Greater New York City Area" includes parts of New Jersey and Connecticut. It's kind of interesting that the only other major metro area that has more than one is St Louis. Not New York, not LA, not Miami. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo

  4. There's a bunch of them in Illinois. Pro gun messages from a group called "Guns Save Life dot Com." They are pretty cute. It's political speech, so it's protected. And it's on private property (along the interstates). I don't want to send this off to SC, so no linky. Feel free to look them up if interested. 5. Gun restrictions in Chicago were far from "eliminated" in 2011. How many times has the city passed restrictions on who can own guns since then? How many times has the city been taken to court on them? And you will notice that the quoted text in the OP says the city is taking "Illegal Guns" off the street. That would seem to indicate that the guns either aren't legally possessed, or aren't legally carried. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 6. Yup. She was in on it. I had my suspicions, but now it's official. http://www.tmz.com/2015/07/02/paris-hilton-dubai-plane-crash-prank-fake-contract-million-dollars/ Apparently, the lawsuit is because the pilot "took it too far." Yeah, right. But that doesn't change the fact that this sort of "prank" isn't funny. It's cruel. I'll freely admit that there are people I'd like to do this to. But it wouldn't be to pull a prank on them or to be funny. It would be purely because I want them to suffer. It's the sadistic and vindictive side of me (that isn't very nice). 7. Not legal in the US. 8. ^This. Big time. Scaring someone for real that badly simply isn't funny. It's cruel. I don't like her at all, but I get no enjoyment from that. And I don't know the rules for TV in other countries, but here in the US, she'd have to sign a release for that to be shown. Even if she didn't know in advance (I consider that to be unlikely), she would have to agree in writing for it to be broadcast. So I think her reported plans for a lawsuit are probably more pretend garbage for publicity. And yeah, Fuck Dubai. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 9. As long as you are in reasonably good shape and health, you aren't too old. There are a number of folks who started at/near your age. Professor Kallend, Grannyinthesky and a few others. There's also a fairly big number of jumpers who have kept going well into their "senior years." Hell, next year you will be eligible to join SOS. Stay conservative as far as jumps & gear go and you should be ok. I can't say much about AZ, but I know there are a bunch of "old farts" down in Florida. My original instructor retired down to there (Deland IIRC) and has lots of company. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 10. I don't pack any rigs with the new ripcord, but I've always considered inspecting the entire reserve ripcord as part of the I&R. Just thinking out loud, but how practical would it be to take a length of line and tie it to the pin? Pull the ripcord all the way out, but leave the line in the housing. Use the line to pull the ripcord back through (like a 'fish tape' when running electrical wire). Edit to add: I'm not implying that you (fcajump) doesn't pull the entire ripcord out to inspect it. 11. You are aware that the EXACT SAME THINGS were said in response to the Loving vs Virginia decision, aren't you? Destruction of the institution of marriage, polygamy, incest, dogs and cats living together, mass hysteria. It's been a while since then. Not much has happened. http://lawreview.vermontlaw.edu/files/2012/02/johnson1.pdf I just wish Tampax made some kind of product we could stuff into these asshats mouths to absorb all the stupid shit they say. Meh. It makes it a lot easier to figure out who the asshats are. I have some long-time friends who are turning out to be closeted "fundamentally religious gay-hating bigots." I had no clue that these people were that strong in their beliefs. Of course, many are divorced and remarried. Or living with a significant other 'without the benefit of marriage' or have a lot of tattoos, ect. So they are "strongly religious" and "devout in their beliefs" except for the ones they don't believe in. Of course. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 12. Sorry, but had the total visual in my head and had to laugh. You aren't the only one. Every Cessna pilot I've ever met (including myself) is a member of the "Diamond Club". More than just a few jumpers too. Walking around when the plane is in the hangar can be tricky. Not all of them 'joined' in such a dramatic (and hilarious) manner though. 13. What time of year? Arizona is awesome in January. SDC, not so much. The reverse is true in July. Are you bringing your own trailer or looking to rent one? 14. Not really. The lifetime appointment means that they are in there for a while. The vetting process makes sure that, even though political ideologies are present, those judges are usually pretty smart. The confirmation process keeps the real 'extremists' out. The way the political winds blow back and forth in this country, it's pretty rare to see one side of the spectrum be able to fill the court entirely. The judges know this and will often time their retirement to ensure that their successor will be of similar thinking. FDR tried this when he wanted to expand the court so that he could appoint enough justices of his liking so he could push his New Deal proposals through. This didn't go over very well. However, by 1942, he had appointed 7 of 9 on the court, so his ideologies were well supported. That's one of the reasons for a two term limit for the pres. And last, the SC usually gets it right. There have been a few "clunkers" over the years, Dred Scott & Plessy v Ferguson are two. But those are pretty rare. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 15. I heard this on the news the other day. Hadn't seen it pop up on here. There's enough old farts on here who will remember Yes. I always loved their stuff. "Fragile" is one of my all time favorite albums, "Roundabout" is one of my al time favorite songs. In all the turmoil that surrounded Yes, Asia, Anderson Bruford Wakeman & Howe, and all the other stuff, Squire was the only one who never left the band. He said one time it was because he was "too lazy to quit." Squire was routinely voted as "best bassist" in a variety of polls over the years. Absolutely stunning bass player. http://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-33306933 And just because it makes me smile: Roundabout "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 18. Wow. Where's the "Like" button? Seriously, this isn't "tiddlywinks." Knowing how to do things is important. Go back and read your waiver. I'm willing to bet very heavily that there is a paragraph about "quality of instruction." Basically, it says you are satisfied that the instruction given is adequate for you to safely jump. If you aren't getting that, and the instructor won't give it to you, and the DZO won't ensure that the instructor gives it to you, then walk. Make damned sure you tell the DZO that you are going elsewhere and taking your money with you. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 19. Why would any modern car with mass flow sensor and fuel injection, need to be tuned for altitude??? Oops. Ok, how about electrics don't lose power as altitude is gained, as a normally aspirated car does? "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 20. Nowhere near as much as the original Sabre (sometimes incorrectly called a "Sabre1"). The Sabre2 is known for random turns of up to 180 in either direction on opening, and can open hard on occasion. I was given the suggestion to make sure the slider is pulled out to the sides more than front/back. Of course, make sure it's tight against the stops. That, more than anything else, has improved my openings. And never, ever forget that any canopy can hit you very, very hard. Sometimes "shit just happens." Throwing a hundred or so square feet of nylon into a 120+ mph airflow is a very chaotic process. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 21. Well, one of the bigger technical challenges of that particular race is how to tune a car to perform well from the (relatively) low altitude at the start to the much higher level of the finish line. Electrics don't have that problem. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  22. Basic 9th grade civics. The "how America works" stuff you should have learned in school. Most courts had ruled that states could allow gay marriage or not ban it. Then the 6th Circuit ruled that states were allowed to decide what marriage was or wasn't. So gay marriage bans in several states were upheld. Many scholars felt that this ruling was completely wrong, because it allowed states to discriminate against certain groups of people. With conflicting Circuit court rulings, the Supremes stepped in. And they found that the ruling of the 6th was incorrect, that the "equal protection" part of the 14th amendment meant that all citizens were entitled to the privileges accorded to some. The states are still entitled to regulate their marriage laws. They just are no longer allowed to use those laws to discriminate against people that some groups don't like. 23. The underlying hatred that motivated their murder is far different from the others.. they are not the same. I would say the murder of 9 Christians in their church and the reaction of their community in a rather Christian manner by not rioting for Jordans after that "shoting" is very instructive... and I suppose its a great dissappointment to those who expected different. The move to remove whaat is to them a symbol of hate... used by white supremacist haters for many decades.... The flag was taken away from what so many of our ancestors fought and died for and then changed into something evil for those with evil intent. What ?I'm trying to say is, in all cases, they were innocent people yet the deaths of the Black people gets more attention? Even though a whacko shooter is responsible in each case. I do see what you're saying, though. Chuck I'm not sure what you mean by that Chuck. The media circus that surrounded the Sandy Hook shootings made the Charleston incident look small in comparison. There were numerous prime time TV 'specials', huge shouting matches about gun control, even idiotic conspiracy theories that it never happened. 24. didn't you used to work for them Gail I was kind of thinking the same thing. But she's not there anymore. So she has no real reason to lie. Ex-employees can be one of the best sources to get accurate info about a company. She sold me mine, and I have to agree about the articulation and floating lats (super comfy and stays in place very nicely) and about riser and pin security (both main and reserve). It takes a little bit of care to get the reserve looking perfect, but it's not hard to get it looking very nice. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 25. ^This, this a thousand times this. I'm not "crapping my dacks" (whatever a 'dack' is) in the plane, but I'm pretty nervous. Just got current on Friday after the winter layover (and a really messed up spring). Nervous, scared, apprehensive, all that. A standard routine helps. Visualization, relaxation, mentally rehearsing EPs, joking about it with the rest of the load, all the 'normal' stuff. Red light went on, we opened the door and... Ohhhhhh Yeahhhhhh. THAT"S what I'm here for. Grabbed the bar and leaned waaaaay out. Ya wanna make sure to check for any traffic below, right? Pulled back in, green light came on and out the door I went. I really needed that.
