  1. FIFY. No. As was noted, if he hadn't been such a jerk about it, maybe you wouldn't have gone to the cops. But it was pretty clear in the video what/who he is. And it's even clearer from what he tried to tell the cop. Maybe, just maybe, the next time he's in that situation, he'll think about it. And not risk the lives of himself, his wife (no great loss there) and everyone else on the road (which could easily include me). I've called in a few erratic and dangerous drivers. I got the plate off of a car that caused an accident and left the scene (he didn't make contact, but his dangerous actions resulted in an accident). The cop I gave that info to was pleased to receive it. She called it a "Phantom Car" when I told her what happened. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 4. It depends completely on who I'm saying it to. Good friend and long time jump partner: "Don't fuck it up" Reasonably new jumper who I haven't jumped with much before: "Don't fuck it up, that's my job" To which the above mentioned good friend will add: "He isn't kidding" Experienced jumper who I haven't jumped with before: "Have fun" Newer jumper who I'm not jumping with (student of some sort): "Don't forget to have fun" TI who is a friend with nervous student: "Don't forget - if you lose another one, they're gonna fire you" "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 5. Got any stats for that? Honest question. I searched around a bit and can't find any information that I trust. And keep one thing in mind: If the person being threatened has a gun, and the "threatener" (for lack of a better term) is aware of that fact, the knowledge may act as a deterrent. In that case, an attack would never take place, and there would be no statistics about it. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 6. Just out of curiosity, why are you worried about Hillary? The election is a year and a half away. You claim that the "End Times Are Upon Us." Surely, the world will end and all that shit will happen before the election. right? So HC will never be in an election that will never happen. 7. Umm... No. Urban warfare is warfare in urban areas. Like Fallujah, Baghdad, Kabul. I'm not sure what I find more disturbing. That there are people idiotic enough to actually believe this sort of garbage. Or that most of those idiots that believe are the ones who are the most vocal about thanking veterans and those currently serving in the military for their service "protecting our freedom." Which is it? Are they willing to lay their lives down to protect our freedom? Or are they "robots' who will follow orders to attack US citizens? 10. Keep in mind 2 things about flying a canopy: #1 - They put you under very large, slow & docile student canopies. They are pretty forgiving of the mistakes you will make. #2 - It's not very hard to do at least "sort of ok", as in well enough to get to the ground safely. There's two toggles (fabric loops that are the handles) at the end of the "strings." Pull the left one, you go left. Pull the right one, you go right. Pull both and you slow your forward and downward speed (flare). The "horror stories" are all very true. But they are the exception, rather than the rule. 11. The 182 is more popular because there are more of them. There were more of them made, and more equipped for jumping. I would be very careful using a Turbo. Of any kind. The engine management on the Turbos is very important. While it's not unimportant in a 182, it's more involved in the Turbo. Turbos are intended to go up high and stay there. The up & down of skydiving operations is hard on them. Again, it's hard on any plane, but turbos are susceptible to damage. Cooking a Turbo can be done very quickly. Replacement/repair is very expensive. If you choose the turbo, make sure the pilot knows exactly what he's doing. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 12. It's the point that we develop "muscle memory" by repeating the action over and over and over. A golf swing is an example of this. Proper stance when shooting a pistol is another. Pull position, turns in place, EPs are all good examples pertaining to skydiving. It would have been a lot clearer if the author had either included more non-jumping examples, or none at all. Having just the one that doesn't pertain to jumping is a bit of a non-sequitur. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 13. I already said no nudity... Who says it has to be a naked picture of your butt? And you could certainly put a picture of your cat (feline, four footed animal) and of a rooster (male chicken) in there. Not porn, pictures of animals & birds. Make them short flashes, not the longer views of the other pics. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 14. Oh, I do know. And if someone told them to me, I would roll my eyes and try to just move slowly away. Hey, something's better than nothing. Or is it the other way around? Jerry Baumchen Hi Jerry, They are pretty lame. I usually groan a bit at each one. But they also make me smile. I enjoy them. Please keep them coming. The barefoot alligator one was pretty good.
  15. I knew that would ruffle some feathers............ But I stand by what I said, they were harder to find and seldom used. I bought a Norinco "Farmers Friend" SKS in 1990. He stated 1965, from then to the mid-80's there was not the proliferation there is now. The mid-80's saw an increase in tactical teams and tactical training. Partly as a response to an increased weapons capability of our adversaries. Bad guys in the 30's were using Tommy-guns and BAR's. So was law enforcement, but again, those were the "good old days"............... I never said I was against it did I? That would be an assumption on your part. I never said you said you were against them
  16. ^This. I don't claim to be super experienced or skilled, but I can usually make my slot on a 6 to 8 way. Beginners are a lot of fun to jump with. Their relative lack of skill means I have to be that much better. I may have to do more of the "work" to make the dock, but it's a good challenge. I did a couple 4 ways at SDC Summerfest last year with JaNette and a couple new guys. 3 planned points, repeat if we get that far. Absolute ball, good test of my skills, and the enthusiasm of the new jumpers when it goes well is well worth the ones that don't quite go as planned. 17. You know that isn't true, right? Pre-89 it was pretty much a semi-auto free for all. Chi-com AKs & SKSs (you could find a Norinco SKS for under $100), HKs in 308, 223 and 9mm (16" barrels so NFA didn't apply) from Germany. Galails from Israel and ARs from Korea. Oddball pistols like Tec-9s and MAC-10 knockoffs (no shoulder stock, so they could be short barreled and classed as pistols). Of course there was no real knowledge of this outside the "gun nuts", so the media frenzy hadn't taken off. The bad guys could get them if they wanted to, but few did (or do today). After the import restrictions in 89, it slowed down. After the ban in 94 it got really silly. Pre-89 HKs were hitting $2500. Some of the better Chinese stuff like Poly Tech got silly high prices too. 18. So what are you jumping and how are you loading it that you lose 1100 feet and top 60 mph in a two rotation turn? "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  19. And why would that be a problem? Or is that something else that you "don't know that you don't know"? Is that a real question(s)? People keep saying "don't know what you don't know" Have you ever thought about how ridiculous that statement is? It's literally impossible to know about everything. Since it is impossible to know everything and people in general are aware that they do not know about everything how can one claim that someone isn't aware that they don't know something? It's why people learn. It's like saying that people aren't aware there is something to learn about. Which again is a ridiculous statement. But I'm curious, what is it exactly that you don't think I have ever considered/hear of/read about/experienced/discussed that is directly related to my post? Bolding mine. That's exactly what it means. That someone is completely unaware of their lack of knowledge. When someone is doing something and appears ignorant of the risk, not just in skydiving, they will respond: "I didn't even think of that" when it's pointed out to them. To put it a slightly different way, you have to know what questions to ask before you can learn something. The part I quoted (and it's a direct, unaltered quote; I just clipped it short) seems to indicate that you don't do turns bigger than 720 because you are concerned about your vertical speed and your CYPRES firing. Is that correct? If so, are you aware of the conditions that will cause a CYPRES to fire? "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 21. When was it made? What's the Date of Manufacture? (DOM). It should be on the data panels of the H/C, main and reserve, and should be on the data card for the H/C & reserve. Does it have an AAD? $6k for a Wings is a bit spendy. I paid that for an Infinity, PDR CYPRES2 (all new) and a used Sabre2 I"m going to agree with looking into an Optimum reserve. If you aren't completely comfortable under a 210, then jumping down to a 190 is going to be "iffy" and ending up freaked out from a mal, low and possibly off the DZ under a canopy you've never flown that is a size smaller than you've ever jumped before is probably not the best idea. 22. Congrats. Yogi Berra said it about baseball, but it applies here too: 90% of baseball skydiving is mental, the other half is physical. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  23. Totally agree. I'm learning a ton here... Umm... Ya mean something like THIS? I'm no moderator, but I know how to write a good thread title and how to make a clicky. 24. The thread started off with a question about older gear in good shape. It drifted off into a fascinating discussion about the differences in Type II and Type IV diapers for rounds. Layout, thoughts behind the different designs, pros, cons, how to properly stow the lines, all sorts of interesting knowledge. To make finding it in the future easier, I thought this would be a good idea. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?do=post_view_flat;post=4731698;page=2;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;mh=25; "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 25. Well, he thought he knew more than everyone else on here. He thought he was a "fast learner" and that the kids today were better than those before because of the technology available. He thought swooping was easy to learn and do. He thought he was different and special. He thought it couldn't happen to him. Fortunately he was under a 129 Safire instead of his 99 Katana(?) and fortunately missed the concrete by a few feet. Either would have made it a fatality. Instead he snapped his spine and put himself into a wheelchair for the rest of his life. To his credit (and I give him a lot of respect for this) he came back and admitted the error of his thinking. He pops back in on occasion to say "Don't do what I did, don't think like I did." He now posts under the name "Clipped Wings." "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit."
