  1. Bolding mine. Yeah, I have to wonder how "deeply held" her religious beliefs are if she completely ignores those "commandment" thingies, yet insists on following other parts. 2. There's a thing going around FB that "Denali" is the Kenyan word for "Black Power." Really. Which is extra funny when you realize that there is no "Kenyan" language, that the official languages of Kenya are Swahili and... Wait for it... English. 3. Googling tends to bring up a lot of the scam sites. Skyride, Thrillplanet, whatever they call themselves these days. Finding a real DZ is essential. Asking on here is a good way to do that. I've heard good things about Delmarva, but I don't know personally. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 4. Oops. Fixed now. No biggie. Mistakes happen. At least you know that some people actually read the stuff you link. I love what the second one has to say. (Now that I can read it ). You don' t notice stuff that doesn't bother you. You really notice stuff that does bother you (generic "you"). The actual noise level is secondary to the "annoyance level." The judge made a comment about this in her judgement. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  5. Ummm.... Both links are the same. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  6. Ok, it may have been Vigils firing in the DC-9 at Rantoul that I'm "misremembering" as CYPRESs. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  7. I could well be "misremembering", but wasn't there a case at one of the WFFCs where they pressurized the jet on the ground and everyones CYPRES (original) fired? And another, a few years later, (Thailand?) where they did the same thing, all the Vigils fired and all the CYPRESs shut down? And, for transparency, not sponsored or anything by anyone in any way. (I agree that knowing which people have a financial interest in what makes for better commentary). "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 8. I've had two on my older Talon. 190 Triathlon in it. One was my own packjob, the other was a paid pack at Summerfest. Either could have been "packer error" in setting the brakes, but my technique involves a good hard yank on the steering line to check that they are correct, and neither left any damage to the "toggle tip pocket" that is typical of an improperly set toggle being yanked out during opening (I've seen that damage a couple times). 9. All that does is demonstrate that the background check has been turned into a toothless Mickey Mouse process courtesy of the gun lobby. There were red flags all over for this guy. Considering how few people are prosecuted for falsifying the application (which is supposed to be "punishable by 10 years in prison"), I think it's the government that has made the process "toothless." I have yet to hear of anyone suggesting that the background checks be tightened up. Only that they apply to all sales. While I agree that this guy had "all sorts of red flags", what do you suggest? Denying someone constitutional rights based on "red flags"? Penalty before conviction of any crime? Without due process? While I don't like what happened here, I like the prospect of the above even less. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 10. Really? How are guns safer now than they were 25 years ago? The concept of safety in a device designed to kill and maim is absurd. That's not true, Professor. EVERY training course I've ever been a part of has treated "Safety" as the number one concept. It's taught from the beginning. It's reinforced throughout the course. It's practiced on the range (with penalties for failing to follow the rules). The principle that it's a dangerous tool and should be treated as such isn't absurd. It tends to reduce the level of accidents (not eliminate, reduce). "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 11. Really? How are guns safer now than they were 25 years ago? ***What "safety" improvements would you suggest? There are various smart technologies that would allow a gun to only be shot by a designated person. This technology is actively being blocked by the gun lobby, to the point of death threats to stores announcing they would cary such product in their inventory. lol #1 - Most auto pistols (semi-auto) have multiple safeties. From "trigger insert" stuff (like Glock started) to firing pin block safeties (where the gun can't fire until the trigger is all the way back). Some of those go back more than 25 years (Colt "Series 80" has the firing pin safety and has had it for longer than that). Pistols today are more "drop safe" than ever before. #2 - One of the greatest threats to a cop is being disarmed and shot with their own gun. It's gotten better in the past 25 years (or so), but it's still something they train and equip for. Yet the cops refuse to accept that technology. Because they don't trust it. Some of it is "Institutional Inerta." But the states that have adopted rules that put requirements for it into place have all exempted cops from those rules. The death threats were stupid. But some people tend to be a little irrational about this stuff. And that behavior isn't confined to gun rights types. #3 - The NRA tends to oppose laws that they see as doing more harm than good. Much of it sounds good when proposed, but sneaks in registration through the "back door", which will always be opposed. They see a lot of these laws as punishing the "law abiding gun owner" while doing nothing about the criminal use of guns. They see a lot of these laws as making it more difficult for the average citizen to get a gun without having any effect on crime. And they really advocate training. I mentioned it in another post, but the NRA has the "Eddie Eagle" training program for kids. It's main points are "If you see a gun -Don't touch, leave the area and tell an adult." Yet when it was offered to anyone who wanted it (schools and such), the anti-NRA crowd had a conniption. "How dare those evil people try to teach our kids about guns!!!" was the standard reaction. 12. Radiators have freon in them? Really? So I've been putting the wrong stuff in the wrong place for all this time? Ethylene glycol in the radiator and freon in the A/C. God what a load of crap. 13. Guns are vastly improved since (say) 25 years ago. Lighter, smaller, more reliable, safer. Market driven. What "safety" improvements would you suggest? If you want to cut down the number of accidental shootings, how about including training for kids (look up the "Eddie Eagle" safety program - from the NRA) NRA's biggest function is actually training. Not lobbying. They preach gun safety more than just about everyone else. But they tend to oppose so-called "safety laws" because they would do more harm than good. If you want to cut gun crimes, how about prosecuting criminals? If you want to keep guns out of the hands of those who shouldn't have them, how about prosecuting people for lying on their background check applications? 14. What "defects" would you have them fix? There have been a few gun recalls over the years that I can think of. One recent one was a Remington rimfire rifle that had a tendency to fire when the action was closed. You know, an actual defect. Most of the cries to "recall guns" are based on user actions, not defective guns. Using that logic, cars would be recalled because people drove them drunk. 15. So what particular mental illness was this guy suffering from? Bi-Polar? Depression? While I agree that well-adjusted, mature, rational people don't do this sort of thing, I don't see any real "Mental Illness" present. He was pissed off, he decided to "get them" and did. Just like Dorner in L.A. He "had enough" and was going to "make them pay." Regardless of the consequences. "Evil" is just a handy name to apply to it. But it fits very well. I agree almost entirely with Lawrockets posts on this. Some people are just "bad apples." Genetics, upbringing, experiences (outside of childhood), whatever. They can't be "treated" or "cured." We can only try to catch them before they do too much damage and put them away to protect society (not gonna get into the death penalty arguments here). 16. The kind designed for use in gas/ethanol blends has a shelf life (once opened). There's a place where you are supposed to write the date on the bottle. The "regular" stuff doesn't go bad, and can be used just fine in ethanol blended gas. It will evaporate if you don't put the cap on tight, though (guess how I know that ). 17. On one hand you have a point, on the other, you weren't there, so you don't know what happened, of if pressure was applied to "adjust" requirements unofficially. On the third hand, here's an article by someone who went through the course with them. He was there. He says they pulled their own weight. And then some. 18. No they don't. They come standard with C/P tops, but they are readily available without them. All you have to do is ask. The pharmacist will usually ask a few questions (generally about kids in the house), but they don't do background checks or anything like that. And I have yet to hear anyone proposing laws that would prosecute parents whose kids get into the medicine cabinet and OD, or who get under the sink and poison themselves with cleaning chemicals. There's a huge effort to educate parents about that (Remember Mr Yuck"?), but I have yet to see any demands for punishment. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 19. The link in post #8 mentioned that the e-mail addys in the profile weren't verified, so many are false (someone listed an e-mail that belonged to Tony Blair). So finding, or not finding an e-mail addy for someone isn't really "damning evidence." "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 20. Only in 2 other threads. One in General, one in Bonfire. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  21. Oh, sure. Like you know anything about physics. Note: the above is sarcasm. I am fully aware of who the Professor is, what he does, and the achievements and recognition he has received. 22. Interesting Newsweek article about the first women cadets at West Point. "The more things change, the more they stay the same." The names of the two successful candidates weren't released by the Army. The higher-ups were concerned about harassment by idiots (and rightfully so), but their friends and families have "outed" them. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  23. Based on what? That it "looks fishy"? I can think of several reasons for the ad being what it is (clueless seller) that are perfectly legit. Of course, it might be stolen. There have been a couple of stolen rigs returned to their rightful owner through threads like this. I highly doubt the cops would be willing to get involved without direct evidence (an owner claiming it or a match in the "stolen" database) that it's a stolen rig. At this point, Spence's trying to "buy" it is probably the best option (there are 2 threads on this, that may be in the other one). 24. There is NO shame in landing out. ZERO!!! If you can't make it back (for whatever reason), deciding to find a safe landing area, actually finding a safe "out" area, and then landing there safely shows good judgement. "Get-Home-itis" is more of a 'pilot' affliction than a 'jumper' one, but it has hurt and killed far, far too many jumpers. I was at SDC Summerfest a couple weeks ago and there was a jumper on a sunset load who misjudged the winds, but waited way, way too long to try to find a safe 'out.'. There are no good ones immediately east of the DZ. I was sitting on the ground with a bunch of others, all of us watching and saying "Turn east and run to a good place." Which didn't happen. So a tree landing was the result. And a whole lot of shenanigans in the rescue effort. You seem to have avoided that potential disaster. Which is, of course, a good thing.
  25. Ok, overgeneralization on my part. But the Walker proposal is far less about "states rights" than it is about the right of a state to discriminate against gays.
