  1. He loaned Fidel Castro his sled to ride. What more proof do you need? Yes, that really happened. TK let Fidel ride his sled down a hill a looooong time ago. This link doesn't mention TK, but he posted an article a while back that named him and had his pic: http://www.ganderairporthistoricalsociety.org/_html_trans/Castro.YQX.htm
  2. They had breached the door. They hadn't completely opened it, but they were through it. She was attempting to climb through the hole they had made. The cop didn't just shoot blindly through the door, he targeted her. The truly funny part about it is how many of the Alt-Right folks scream & yell about the 2nd A and their 'right to self defense'. One of the cornerstones that they like to tout is "Castle Doctrine". The key principle of that is the idea that anyone forcibly entering an occupied dwelling is demonstrating 'intent to inflict death or great bodily harm' on the occupants. From a practical standpoint, it means that if someone breaks into my home while I'm inside, I can use deadly force. The intruder need not be armed, they need not make a verbal threat, they don't even need to 'advance menacingly' towards me. The act of forcibly entering is enough to permit me to legally use deadly force. And while the room they were breaking into is not a 'dwelling', the chants of "Hang Pence" and other actions by the insurrectionists made it pretty clear they weren't there for a friendly conversation. Funny how the Alt-Right types completely ignore those 'inconvenient truths'.
  3. While many of the suits in this thread are election related, it was started with a suit that an 'acting' secretary has limited powers. On that note, Colorado is suing the Federal Government, claiming that the "Acting" Director of the BLM wasn't legally able to approve plans. Like plans to expand drilling. Link: https://coloradosun.com/2021/01/15/colorado-sues-bureau-of-land-management-uncompaghre-pendley/?utm_source=ActiveCampaign&utm_medium=email&utm_content=Local+liquor+stores+squeezed+%2F+Saliva+testing+in+Colorado+schools+%2F+Boebert+sued+for+Twitter+block&utm_campaign=The+Sunriser+-+1%2F18%2F2021&vgo_ee=UO9MkYveV9R01NJ8rlW3hXwFoqDlMHNmyq65fGLdufk%3D With the 'funniest' part of it that the Rs held the Senate the entire time. Getting people confirmed would have been fairly easy. But McConnell was too interested in appointing judges. And Trump was too stupid to care.
  4. I think you answered your own question.
  5. Maybe the show of force will deter the idiots. Maybe the utter failure of the Capitol insurrection attempt will deter them. Maybe they'll try and lose again.
  6. Ron - What are your thoughts about the idea that the protesters were attacking the police? Including wanting to kill one with his own gun? Considering that those folks were trying to con the cops into standing down, claiming 'we had your back last summer', it's hard to pretend they are Antifa. On a slightly different note, the original 'rally' where Trump incited insurrection was fairly sophisticated. It wasn't a 'first attempt' at this sort of thing. So some folks are asking 'who put it together?' and 'who paid for it?' The answers aren't terribly surprising. https://apnews.com/article/election-2020-donald-trump-capitol-siege-campaigns-elections-d14c78d53b3a212658223252fec87e99?fbclid=IwAR05Kpri-zgbAGFPK5hwNTe7d0zWT9TeKhJoqYNgAyNq7HUUulha9lguXTg
  7. Gotta love all the people replying to 3 year old posts, not seeing that it was a reincarnated zombie thread. I don't have enough experience with different types of machines, but seam quality with a horizontal axis hook (bobbin oriented vertically, right?) is a function of thread tension being appropriate for the material... I think.
  8. Well, it's not going to be 'entirely over' on the 21st. I think we're going to have something of a "Trump Hangover" for at least a few weeks. Impeachment, Alt-Right idiots, criminal prosecution of Trump, his toadies (direct subordinates) and all the Trumpettes from the Capitol insurrection attempt. That's not including any potential unrest/insurrection attempts on the 21st itself. However, I'm not terribly worried about that. The security forces (all over the country) are on alert and extra deployed. They won't make the same mistake they made on the 6th. The fact that the idiots from the Capitol are being identified & rounded up helps too. Less idiots to do stupid shit, and a good example for the rest.
  9. Except, based on my observations, the 'younger & fitter' crowd is more likely to be wearing a mask. The 'old, sedentary & overweight' crowd is less likely. But (for once) you make a valid point. The selfish & short sighted behaviors based on our 'rights' and the refusal to accept our 'responsibilities' are very damaging. That goes for diet, exercise, behaviors like smoking, or taking steps to minimize the spread of Covid. The sad part is that the behaviors in the first group generally only affect the person making the bad decisions. Not so much with behaviors regarding the pandemic.
  10. CBS national news had an interview with him & his partner. Apparently they were off duty and went to the Capitol on their own. The other guy had some choice words (beeps) for the insurrectionists. From the interview I saw, they were telling the Capitol cops how they "had their back" last summer, but then beat them and tried to kill them. Link: https://www.cbsnews.com/news/capitol-riots-cops-describe-facing-pro-trump-rioters/
  11. 'Cuz we're more concerned about our 'rights' than our responsibilities. "Cuz we're a bunch of spoiled, immature, selfish brats. 'Cu we're a bunch of gullible fools who put Trump into office. So that when he said 'it will go away', they believed him. When he said it was 'a hoax' they believed him. The worst part about it is that there is a significant segment of the population that DID take it seriously, that did take precautions, that were doing all the right things. Unfortunately, too many idiots decided that they didn't have to, didn't want to, or that it would make them look 'weak'. So we're where we are.
  12. I don't think Ron's all that worried about it. I don't see anything he's doing (says he's doing) as violating any sort of law. He can tout the Alt-Right and share their lies as much as he wants. He won't get booted off here for doing it, and it's not illegal. He's not advocating violence, just approving of it and expressing his hope that it will escalate. I think he's got a pretty workable plan for SHTF too. He's in a community that is pretty uniform, and maybe somewhat self sufficient. The defense plans and ideas he's shared on here (betting that it isn't all of them) are somewhat silly and based in movies & TV instead of reality, but it sounds like his community would be reasonably secure unless attacked by a fairly large group (that's where 'keep your head low and MYOB' come in). As far as the Alt-Right go, I think they are going to fade away for the most part fairly quickly. Some won't. The KKK has been around for 160+ years. The Nazis have been around for 90+. I think the Proud Boys are not going to go away soon. But without Trump actively encouraging them from the podium of the presidency, without the extreme Alt Right (Bannon, Miller, ect) in the Cabinet, they won't grow. With the FBI going after the insurrectionists from Capitol, they're likely to learn a very clear lesson that actions have consequences (I hope). If Trump gets prosecuted for his crimes, I think that lesson would be even more clear. Without the large reach of the bigger social media sites (FB, Twitter, Parler, ect), the Qcumbers will have trouble recruiting new members. Hopefully the current crop of idiots will slowly realize they've been had, when NONE of the garbage they claim comes to pass. It's going to take time, and will never fully go away (it was present before Trump and will be there after). But it should decline.
  13. I'm thinking it has to do with the fact that the one on the left has a single magazine, while the one on the right has a 'doubled up' one (or pair, if you will). Or perhaps that the one on the left has nothing visible but the rifle, while the one on the right is wearing LBE with what looks like spare mags and at least one hand grenade.
  14. More of the same what? That so far, there are TWO 'left wing terrorists' who have been arrested? How many Trump supporters have been arrested? Hint: A lot. How many of the people arrested for destructive behavior during the BLM protests turned out to be Alt-Right types? Hint: A lot. This is very reminiscent of the claims of "voter fraud" by the right. It turns out that there's a LOT more committed by Trump fans than by anyone else.
  15. Actually, the original lockdowns worked reasonably well. Infection rates were fairly low. They should have been left in place longer, but they were working. Look at how the numbers spiked in June and July, after stuff opened up. One thing that is being ignored is how the 'conservatives' decided that it was 'showing weakness' to follow basic safety protocols. The right decided not to wear masks, not to stay away from others, not to do anything the 'liberal scientists' told them to do. That's one reason that "Trump territory" saw some of the biggest spikes over the summer.
  16. My mom was more or less ok with my jumping. She wasn't all that interested in coming out to watch. The only time my dad came to the DZ (with my mom) was to see a fundraiser event where one of the guys did 100 jumps in one day. He died in 05. We ran a small, weekend only, club DZ. If we had a busy weekend, sometimes the student rigs would be left unpacked and I'd come up during the week to pack. Mom would come up with me and just hang out and enjoy the peace & quiet of the mostly empty airport. I was a pilot a while back, and got re-current and started flying jumpers. One day, a few of the guys wanted to jump and none of the other pilots were available, so they called me. I called my mom and invited her up to watch. Since I was going to be flying, not jumping, she decided to come out. She had a ball watching. She thought the joy she saw them experiencing and expressing on the jumps was really fun. She thought the language was a bit 'salty', but understood that's how those guys were. So, a couple weeks later, she decided to come out and watch me jump. It was a day with high, thin clouds, so the plane & jumpers were silhouetted against them and really easy to see. We had a guy starting to jump camera in our group, so she would see the plane on jump run, us come out of the plane, open, fly our pattern & land, then we'd put the video up on the hangar TV while we packed. Again. she loved it. On the ride home, she commented that she didn't get the 'pit of the stomach' fear she was expecting when we were leaving the plane and falling through the sky. After that, she'd come out quite a bit. She'd sit on the picnic table, watch over my little dog and watch us jump. The rest of the jumpers enjoyed having her out. A lot of the students and their families & friends were often surprised that she was hanging out (You like seeing him jump? You aren't scared?). She really enjoyed watching the tandem students and how they acted/reacted from walking in the hangar, through the training & gearing up to getting on the plane, to coming back after their jump. She got a big kick out of seeing the change in their attitude/emotions from 'before' to 'after'. After we closed down that DZ (Wolf River Skydivers), I moved to a different place, and she came right along. The jumpers at the other place were just as welcoming and friendly to her as at the old place. When that place closed, I moved to a DZ a couple hours from home. Since I often would take a tent and spend the whole weekend, she really wasn't able to come. However, back in 2019, I was heading down with a friend, planning on only the one day. So she came with. Again, the staff & jumpers were very friendly & welcoming. Again, she had a ball. Since it was Mother's Day weekend, the DZ was offering discounted tandems or free observer rides in the Otter to any mom. She declined, since I had explained how the Otter comes down. Back when I started, she expressed some interest in doing a tandem. However, her health has declined and she no longer thinks it's a good idea. The second DZ near me reopened last year, and she came out this year. The pandemic made it less than ideal, and she only came once. But she still was warmly welcomed and had a good time.
  17. Ok, a good first priority is canopy control. No matter how you 'play in the sky' during freefall, you have to safely fly and land the canopy EVERY jump. A canopy course is a good idea, but even without that, making an effort to have a consistent, correct pattern; and working on landing accuracy is something that will be beneficial. Keep in mind that swoopers have to have a consistent, precise and accurate pattern. If they don't hit the same 'spot' to initiate their turn every time, they won't have a consistent swoop. While you are working on your canopy, you are still going to be playing up in the sky. Personally, I'd focus on belly skills. Get reasonably decent at them before moving on to freeflying or 'angley' stuff. There was a fairly well known fella on here a while ago that was quoted saying something along the lines of "get good on your belly before moving onto your butt". Every jump ends on your belly. If you want to get into coaching and instruction, you need to be good on your belly. If you want to become a videographer, you will need to be good on your belly. There's a ton of fun stuff you can do on your belly. Some of the best jumpers in the world organize some really cool stuff at a variety of boogies (I've got jumps with everyone on Rhythm at SDC). The ability to 'be where you need to be when you need to be there' is something they will want. You don't have to be the best in the world, but you should be reasonably competent. At the same time, you can be working on your tracking. Not the 'group tracking' stuff, but the 'get the hell away from everyone else at the end of the freefall' tracking. If I'm doing 'bigger way' stuff (more than 5 or 6), the organizer usually ends the dirt dive with a breakoff altitude and an admonition to 'watch your quadrants (keep an eye out for other jumpers tracking near you) and track like your life depends on it... Because it does." I'm fortunate enough that my body shape gives me an advantage in tracking. Not too many can keep up with me when I'm really trying to get away from the group. That's been helpful on jumps where others end up tracking under me. I've had people do that, where they don't realize how close we are to each other, they end up lower and I'm going fast enough that I'm able to outrun them.
  18. Well, I let my membership expire due to all the crap. Laundering Russian money, supporting the Mango Mussolini, scaring people into believing that 'the scary liberals are coming for your guns', all of that. So, I got something from them the other day. Big, scary letters on the front of the envelope: NOTICE OF GUN CONFISCATION!!!!! Inside, the standard 'Join and send us money or lose your guns'. Including (direct quote): I'm talking about armed government agents storming your house, taking your guns and hauling you off to prison.
  19. Yeah, I thought we learned that "Nazis are evil" about 70 years ago. And were reminded of it in 1980.
  20. So the seven hottest years in the last 140 are the LAST seven years, out of order.
  21. Notable arrests from the insurrection attempt: https://www.nytimes.com/2021/01/10/us/politics/capitol-arrests.html?auth=login-email&campaign_id=9&emc=edit_nn_20210114&instance_id=25992&login=email&nl=the-morning&regi_id=118682468&segment_id=49260&te=1&user_id=94f58d5b96ea75e238c5bfb8bc8f5a2c Includes 2 off duty cops, one now-resigned state legislator, one Olympic gold medalist (swim relay), one son of a New York judge, one New York MTA employee who called in 'sick' (and is facing discipline for that), one retired Air Force LTC and AF Academy grad, and a bunch of idiots who fell for the Q line. Over 100k tips (not including phone calls) to the FBI. Apparently the idea of insurrection to install Trump as dictator isn't as unifying as Ron would have you think.
  22. It's always 'right around the corner' or 'just over the hill'. Similar tactics were used to keep US troops fighting in the Philippines against the Japanese. Given how many folks 'rose up and fought' last week (very few, and none outside DC), then 'no'. Are you in Public Affairs? Or recruiting? You should be. Nicely put. Unfortunately, the reality is that the 'people' in uniform are still people. The scandal at Ft Hood revealed a lot of flaws. Hopefully they will be addressed. Hopefully. I am reminded of the National Anthem video they used to play on the local TV station before shutting down late at night (yes, I'm that old). So let me get this straight - Trump supporters were screaming that the election was stolen. They posted their plans all over the internet. They attended a speech by Trump where he repeated his lies and incited insurrection. That same crowd then went and attacked the Capitol, intending to lynch Pence, Pelosi and others. Most of the fools and idiots that have been identified (many of whom are now under arrest) have extensive histories of pro-Trump, Qcumber, anti-Antifa and other things that show they are Alt-Right. Yet the attack was Antifa. The same crowd that wants to see Trump deposed and Biden certified as the winner of the election were the ones trying to stop it. And you actually believe this? Why am I not terribly surprised?
