  1. Mary Jo White will be shocked to find out she previously worked for Goldman and didn't know it. To be honest, this isn't an Obama vs. Trump thing; I dislike both of them, although I dislike Trump far, far more. I wish people thought of politics in terms of actual policies ("What approaches work and what don't?") and not tribal identities ("My guy good! Your guy bad!"), but I suppose I'm wishing for an America that simply doesn't exist. Anyway, this is a question of smart regulatory governance vs. well... not. To be clear, he's a very, very bright guy, but he's spent a career navigating exceptions to the securities law (e.g., private equity is, by definition, an exception to the Securities Act and the Securities Exchange Act), not actually enforcing. To make an over-simplistic analogy: you've asked the guy in charge of finding loopholes to make and enforce the rules. Expect small time investors (do any of you play the market? you'll be the ones who get hosed) to take the biggest hit. 2. Well, see, you got it all wrong, Kallend. Trump used to say "drain the swamp", but all of the environmental libby lib libs always talk about wetland preservation, so he changed course and is now making sure the swamp is a thriving ecosystem. But in all seriousness - as someone who works as a securities (and IP, but that's a different issue) lawyer, yeah, that fox is going to make sure the henhouse is totally safe. Totally. Safe. (Seriously - even I - someone who is annoyed with the scope and breadth and complexity of securities laws because I actually have to deal with them on a daily basis - think this is an awful choice.) I'll happily listen to any Trumpeter about how this choice is amazing and walk through exactly why they are wrong. 4. ' I was trying to help Jeremy with this at the Texas record, and even though I'm OK with Photoshop on a Mac, I couldn't figure it out on the PC. For some reason, the grid layer was blank (in other words, it was just the transparent background). In thinking about it a little more, I'm wondering if the scales were just so off that the part of the layer that you could see would be blank (in other words, the upper left hand corner of the grid). I couldn't figure out how to do on a PC the usual tricks that I would on a Mac to zoom out... Skwrl Productions - Wingsuit Photography Northeast Bird School - Chief Logistics Guy and Video Dork
  5. I know you know this, but others might not - in the Transform controls, always click the "Maintain aspect ratio" icon (it looks like a little chain) and only drag the grid layer from the corners while holding down shift. Particularly if the formation is close, don't apply the transformation until you took note of the scale and angle offset (if you rotated the grid), so you can show the judges how to re-create it. http://my3boybarians.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/Picture-8-700x443.png
  6. Where in NH will you be? Your closest options are probably either Skydive New England or Pepperell. Depending on where in NH, Jumptown is also an option. Skwrl Productions - Wingsuit Photography Northeast Bird School - Chief Logistics Guy and Video Dork
  7. No theory, just facts of basic physics. Fascinating. Tell me more about untheoretical basic physics. Quantum or Newtonian? Your choice, I can handle either. Well, maybe, just maybe - hear me out here, Doc - a quantum "many worlds" interpretation of what she wrote might make sense. As in, it might not make sense to us here, but possibly in some parallel universe... Skwrl Productions - Wingsuit Photography Northeast Bird School - Chief Logistics Guy and Video Dork
  8. I've taken to putting it into standby mode when I put the helmet on, and then I click the record button and ask a friend if the record light is on (there's a small red light right under the lens). It feels like a step back in a sense, but I'm not expecting a simple solution to arise soon. I suppose small mirror might be a solution, but... 11. I didn't like the design of the Skysystems one (it requires you to slide your fingers under the helmet, which might be tricky if things are going crazy), so I basically made the Tonfly one and used that on my Wes Pro Vapor. 13. I really like the Foghead, the Carve, and the Funk. I've owned all three. I had issues with my handles on the Funk, so I sold it, but I liked the way it flew. I still have the other two. I really didn't see much performance/acro difference between any of the three. Skwrl Productions - Wingsuit Photography Northeast Bird School - Chief Logistics Guy and Video Dork

  18. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/False_dilemma No. But it would be nice if cable systems were an option on more suits and if the hazards of the design were taken into account by more people. Missed Lyosha's response. So I'll just +1 that. Skwrl Productions - Wingsuit Photography Northeast Bird School - Chief Logistics Guy and Video Dork
  19. Again, it's not a brand war thing. It's a design thing. I'm raising concerns about an "improvement" that might have flaws. ... isn't the only manufacturer that uses the design or has it as an option. Notice I never mentioned any brand names in anything I wrote? Obvious example is obvious: the guy in the video wasn't flying a Squirrel suit. You keep wanting to make it a brand war thing so you can write off what I'm saying as just brand war noise, but it's not. It's a concern about one possible design that is now very common in wingsuits made by several manufacturers. You Cult of Squirrel guys are adorable. "This mod" meaning a cable system? Or the Spectra system you're talking about? If it's a cable system, that's great; I'll have it put on my next purchase. I guess we'll see. I hope not; we didn't hear of issues with innie-outie at first, either. Skwrl Productions - Wingsuit Photography Northeast Bird School - Chief Logistics Guy and Video Dork
  20. Oh, right. In that regard, we're in total agreement. If you have an innie-outie design suit, you should be hyper-vigilent about it and adopt some sort of solution for it. And then make sure your solution works for your particular set up. Absolutely. To use your analogy, our response, as a community, ought to be: "Hey Ford, on your next year's model, how about fixing this fucked up thing, so I can keep buying Ford!" as opposed to saying "Oh, well... Hey Ford drivers, you just need to add some duct tape in various places and it should be OK, but keep an eye on it. It probably won't Pinto on you. Probably." Edited to explain this for our friends outside the US: http://www.popularmechanics.com/cars/a6700/top-automotive-engineering-failures-ford-pinto-fuel-tanks/ Skwrl Productions - Wingsuit Photography Northeast Bird School - Chief Logistics Guy and Video Dork
  21. Yeah, because of shit like this I saw this weekend. I guess I do. This was not staged. This was a guy walking out to the loading area. He had one of those S carabiners behind it. Skwrl Productions - Wingsuit Photography Northeast Bird School - Chief Logistics Guy and Video Dork
  22. I've tried the approach. My point is that it's not faster and adds additional risk. Sorry if this isn't the response you wanted. Cable is a better design because, well, why add additional complications when you're skydiving? And let me be clear - this isn't a brand war thing. This is a design thing. I'd pay $100 extra to buy a wingsuit from some manufacturers who insist on innie-outie if they offered a cable system. And I've told them that. I just think the design can be a bad idea, particularly on some body shapes, particularly on some rigs. Skwrl Productions - Wingsuit Photography Northeast Bird School - Chief Logistics Guy and Video Dork
  23. Completely agree. The last two suits I bought - both new suits, bought within the last nine months - have cable systems, and I don't have to worry about doing a Picard maneuver, adding a carabiner, adding strings, pulleys, or any kind of weird shit from Home Depot to jump my wingsuit... It just works. That's the part that amuses me - it doesn't take more time to switch rigs with an innie-outie system vs. a cable system, when you think about the process as a whole. I have two rigs and have done the switch with both innie-outie and cable systems a bunch of times. Yes, lacing up a wing takes a few minutes. But when you consider the amount of time you need to do the innie-outie system right - meaning you have to fuck around with zippers and carabiners and spectra lines and all that stuff, I'm already in the loading area with my cable system masturbating furiously (so, you know, standard behaviour) by the time you have your gear on. There's no time savings. Skwrl Productions - Wingsuit Photography Northeast Bird School - Chief Logistics Guy and Video Dork
  24. True, but this discounts the fact that things can shift from the moment you stand up. Maybe it should read "check the moment before you exit". If you're jumping one of these suits, add a Picard maneuver and check the handles... Even if you're busy trying to get ready to exit, like with you do with a large group. (Wow, one more needless thing to have to worry about because of the design...). But even that might not be enough, as these things can shift on deployment, too. I'm not an underwear model (I know, you guys are all shocked to learn that), but I'm pretty far from round. At 5'11" (180cm), 185 lbs (84kg), I had this problem with the dual zipper design on a couple of different suits (including ones made by different manufacturers). While round people might have the problem, it's not exclusive to bowling balls - long torsos can create the problem as well. Skwrl Productions - Wingsuit Photography Northeast Bird School - Chief Logistics Guy and Video Dork
  25. Cable system or an over the shoulder zipper, instead of a dual zipper system, to be absolutely sure (well, as sure as you can be in skydiving). Yes, I am aware that some manufacturers don't offer that. Skwrl Productions - Wingsuit Photography Northeast Bird School - Chief Logistics Guy and Video Dork
