My understanding is that a side from the 7.1 million from the exchanges, there are 3 million who were able to stay on their parents insurance and many more who were able to join Medicaid. It seems the 11 million projected to have insurance due to the ADA by 4/1/14 is correct. Not to mention how much higher the numbers would be if all those red States had complied with the law.

Can you cite your source that 30 million were promised to be insured as of today?

B license, jumping with a tandem?
jclalor replied to blueraincap's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
The jump should be about your friend having having a great skydive, let the jump be 100% about him. That's the answer I got when I asked the same question you're asking, it made sense. -
If you have nothing planned for the jump, your first solo FF will seem like it takes forever, it's very relaxing not having to perform for someone. Just make sure to maintain good separation with the jumper(s) in front of you, count slowly and don't get intimidated with idiots screaming at you to jump.

As far as cameras being a distraction, is it possible, with the younger generation being use to having their every move being on video, that they just aren't as distracting as it once was when there weren't nearly as many cameras around?

The problem is that everyone does not have access to one.

I'm not sure if this was my best or my worst. I had a new nursing assistant go and try to take vital signs on a patient that had just expired 10 minute earlier, this was late at night, she was unaware of his new condition. Sometime "gallows humor" is pretty bad.

Viva la difference

Wow, can't believe this came from you. There's lots of room for us to agree on here... How about this - every child's birth certificate must have the father's name on it? That way, we can all hold the father responsible for raising that child. And, eliminating single motherhood would reduce poverty in America more than any other measure we could take. And, it would enforce the concept of a nuclear family, which is the cornerstone for civil society. What do you think? Naming the father is already required when applying for any form of federal or state assistance. States are already aggressive about going after these fathers for financial payments (which they should be). It is hard to see any meaningful difference in your proposal. The state can require financial support but it is impossible to make somebody be a good, active father in their children's lives. Perhaps some states require the fathers name, I'm pretty sure the Feds don't, how could they? Just watch 15 minutes of Maury Povich and you'd think half of the kids in this country have no idea who pop's is. I think the theory is why punish the kids who have mom's with mattresses strapped to their back.

The I-5 drive, perfectly summarized. It's a different problem from SoCal 5 lane freeways with the slow people in the #1, but both make you wish for a stinger missile, or maybe just an egg tosser. I-5 is exactly what I was referring too. It's interesting that you can almost always tell a Southern Californian from a Northern Californian by how they give directions; the So Cal person will always prefaces a freeway with "the" as in "you take the 5 to the 405 to the 15" A nor Cal person will just say "take 101 to 880 to 1"

I'm not sure where you live, but California is considerably cheaper. Are you factoring in the subsidies ? I can't get the link to work, but for a middle tier, it's about $400 a month for the family you described based on a family of 3 making $50,000. I don't think the cost of insurance is based on income, only the subsidies that you will receive, Wait until people start learning the meaning of the word 'deductible'. I don't care what you are able to afford per month if you have a $9,500 deductible most younger people would be SOL. The maximum deductible for a single person is $6,250 and $12,000 for a large family. We'll child visits and yearly check ups for adults are included, along with preventative care such as mammograms and colonoscopies. On a slightly related note, perhaps it's still the fentanyl and versed talking, but my colonoscopy earlier today was a breeze, I highly recommend it.

Chris Christie knew about bridge closure details
jclalor replied to Anvilbrother's topic in Speakers Corner
I think many people here have the misconception that this was all about the traffic on the GWB, the real traffic issues had to do with the gridlock on the surface streets in and around Ft Lee. This is where the public's safety was in the most serious jeopardy due to emergency responders unable to respond in an appropriate time frame. It's surprising to think that a first responder would think of this as funny. -
I checked for Baton Rouge, the top plan for the family you listed making $150,000 was about $1000, the price of the plans for an income of $50,000 takes into account the subsidies, so they are about $200 less than a person making $150,000. For a person making $50,000, the child would be covered by Chip and would not need to be on that parent's plan. There were no plans that cost $2,700.

I'm not sure anyone is really offended, I think their just confounded that someone could be so arrogant on an issue that really is black and white. I would really suggest that you take some time and rethink your position that you would consider the traffic jam as being funny, I think that some here consider your lack of empathy as very disturbing. BTW, nothing worse than an insincere apology. -
In Southern California the left lane is the "don't you know who I think I am" lane. but also full of first generation drivers who only want to fear cars from the right. It's almost a given that the #2 lane is faster in all traffic conditions. The thing that drives me crazy the most is when traffic is heavy in the fast lane, and people use the slower lanes to pass and the then get back in the fast lane before they rear end the approaching semi. Of course they don't care that there's no room in the fast last lane and they have no issue cutting you off getting back in. They then pass the semi and keep repeating the process. This is the one reason I wish they had undercover CHP.
-
IMHO only - I would make that the rule for all the lanes, not just left lane I don't think people should drive more than 10 mph over OR under the posted target speed (under normal conditions). If I'm 10 mph faster OR slower than the other car our closing speed is the same. and as said before - we should have speed 'targets', not just a top limit Don't you think it's strange that you get to decide how much over the speed limit someone else should drive? I have no issue pulling into a slower lane, even if I'm going 80 mph and someone is approaching me at 90mph, I'll get over. Of course all bets are off if traffic is solid in front of me.

It's always Misssissippi.

"promise5"]I'll say it. Who really cares?? So what if someone was late to an event. I mean dang!!! Burn me alive, I thought it was funny myself.*** I'm going to go way out on a limb on this one, but do you consider yourself a Christian? Your lack of empathy is disturbing. -
(Have not watched the video - just read the text here) Note she said she intended to turn left in half a mile, so changing lanes to the right may not be a valid suggestion. Of course, she may be bullshitting us there. I also reject the notion that she's the bitch here. There's nothing P-A about retaliating to dicks this way - it's straight up tit for tat. Potentially unwise, of course, but moving over is effectively enabling. She was traveling at 60 mph for over a minute, so that's a distance of 1 mile, perhaps she really did intend to turn in 0.5 miles but instead got caught up with all the excitement. Both of those people are the worst type that you want to see on the road; one that is purposely trying to impede others and one that's a rode rager. Their actions put everyone at risk, is the rager more responsible? Absolutely. If the truck had spun about 5 seconds later he may have been hit head on by a semi. This one hits a little close to home for me because I have a sister that could have been driving either vehicles. She thrives on punishing people that she perceives as poor drivers. This may be over 60 years old, but it's still dead on. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=mZAZ_xu0DCg

What does portrait aspect mean?

I think he was a she doing the video. Yes and if one really watches the video one will see the semi flatbed truck she passes just befor the pickup swerves right and passes her But of couse none are so smart as those who condem off handedly @ the two second Mark the flatbed truck is almost parallel with the "victim", it appears she then paces him for about the next minute, keeping the road rager from being able to pass and then she slowly passes him and another vehicle, and she then still does not move over to the right hand lane. She was looking to provoke a confrontation from the beginning.

I think he was a she doing the video. I think you're right.

I particularly enjoyed the part about Christie weeping upon hearing of the lane closures, I've evidently had the man all wrong. -
First of all if you watch, this idiot had room to move over, or he was pacing the vehicle in the right lane, effectively blocking the person. This is straight up passive-aggressive behavior. Anyone that drives around videotaping other drivers is also an idiot, he was looking for this, perhaps the George Zimmerman of the Florida highways. If you keep this type of behavior up in Florida, someone's gone stand their ground.
