The only thing this administration has accomplished is a travesty called Obamacare. The list of scandals based on incompetence is growing toward endlessness. I can only wonder at the mental acuity and motivation of BHO's supporters. Basically, I just given up. I'm in survival mode. I thought you were in survival mode 5 yeas ago? Are you going to un-batton the hatches if the next President is Republican? I would also think that a world teetering on the edge of total chaos would be right down your ally.

The most courageous thing Bush did was not to pardon Libby.

I've seen this claim before, but it defies any reason. What part of this defies reason? You need a babysitter. Your neighbor offers. You look him up-see him on the public database and say no thanks. The guy applies/volunteers to work with kids-volunteer coach/at church/ delivering kids bouncers etc. Look him up and say no thanks. It's there-use it. Sometimes the devil is in the details. http://www.businessinsider.com/surprising-things-that-could-make-you-a-sex-offender-2013-10

I can think of no other situation where a person gets physically attached to a complete stranger and then spends several minutes completely out of the view of others. I would think that a DZO, who knowingly hired a sex offender, would have one hell of a time defending a civil lawsuit brought on by a passenger who claims they were harassed or assaulted. I would think a female student should have the absolute right to know if she's being harnessed to, and then expected to be secluded with for several minutes to a serious sex offender.

uh, the Guardian and the FBI aren't the same thing, and this citation doesn't show CA at 40th lowest for gun deaths (when the data clearly shows it should be 33rd) and says nothing about gun laws. It does show quite clearly that whatever you were posting from prior, it did include suicides because CA, per the Guardian, has a rate of 3.25/100k instead of 9. And instead of having a lower than average gun death rate, it has a worse than average (2.75), trailing 31 states. And where was your data to support your jab at southern states as being dumber and poorer, and thus prone to shooting each other? When I look at the Guardian chart, what I see is a bunch of white states dominating the low (safe) end, showing gun death rates less than 1/100k. Please don't chastise others about "facts" when you post a turd like that. Surely you could have posted a valid response to the OP's long reach, rather than make shit up. When a guy has an opportunity to kill in 3 different locations before law enforcement can catch up with him, defending the effective ban on CC in our state is a pretty tough argument to make. Fortunately it seems like the 9th has seen the light and we may actually join the rest of the country in allowing non criminals to carry guns. Why no citation, jclalor? Gun deaths per 100k suggests suicides are included, which is really not a relevant concern in this subject, I dare say. And what criteria did they use to rank the states? It questionable for CA to trail NY and IL, and probably HI and NJ as well. And more importantly, why are there *7* states with lower gun deaths / 100,000 described as worse than California. It appears that Cal should be 33rd if we take this source for granted. As for this rather awful incident - it shows that banning AR-15s will not prevent these sort of (statistically rare) incidents from happening, and moreover, even with no guns at all that we can still suffer one. He used a knife, a car, and 3 9mm pistols to kill at 3 separate locations. For those who want to use these incidents to talk about carry laws - this one probably does not apply. The 3 he stabbed in his apartment were likely surprised, and the drive by of the sorority isn't a good DGU situation. Only when he went into a deli and shot the guy was there a chance. And as always, the cops were well behind - can't be everywhere. They did appear to wound him, so his last act apparently was to kill himself in a moving vehicle and managed to injure 4 more people as the car crashed into their's. (for a guy apparently so sexually frustrated enough to do this, what is the reason for killing 4 guys in two spots, and but only two women from the car?) From the FBI: http://www.theguardian.com/news/datablog/2011/jan/10/gun-crime-us-state I'm simply saying that you can't judge any law based on anecdotal evidence. It sure does appear that the the lower the education and income, combined with liberal gun laws combine for more gun deaths. I would expect the OP to cite evidence, other than a single event to evaluate California's gun laws. I have no issue with semi-auto assault weapons, I use to own a HK-91 (pre-ban) I do believe in background checks, waiting periods and strict laws for transporting, along with no CC, call me crazy. I've lived in California all my life and have owned and purchased a few firearms, outside of not being able to take the HK-91 with me down to the local Chuck E Cheese with the family, it's been relatively hassle free. -

It sure looks like the states with higher rates of gun homicides have the lowest education and income levels (No offense Mississippi) Why you don't wonder about about gun owners and crimes? I have no idea. -
Want to bet that you voted for some of the people who voted against the Veterans jobs Bills??? How about the representatives you voted for who voted to CUT VA funding??? Support for veterans means a bit more than just talking the pleasantries and homilies. Actions as they say.. speak louder than words. You mean like the action of treating the prisoners in Gitmo better than veterans? Wasn't Gitmo supposed to be closed down? I remember hearing a president say that . . . which one do you think it was? I'm disappointed Obama didn't shut down Gitmo, that he continued Stellar Wind, that we've kept so many troops in Afghanistan and A few other things. Am I glad he's the President instead of Romney? Absolutely. Will I admit that he's far from the "Anointed One"? All day long. Almost every issue that both parties have taken exception with the president on have been when he's gone to the right on an issue, as mentioned above. Do I have any doubt that you would support what ever is necessary to take of our vets? Not one. I just think at times you find it very difficult to stray from the GOP script.

I've always though the same thing, while WWP does a great job, what a disgrace that it's even needed, but you know how some of that 47% is. one minute their heroes, the next minute their nothing but mooches. I thought this country had learned it's lesson after Vietnam.

One of the seven who died was the killer, and apparently three of the victims were stabbed to death. There were at least four people who were injured from being hit by the killer's car. So it's not all about guns. I will bet $0.50 that he was taking at least one of the more popular SSRIs or other - quite legal - medications. Actually, that's not a bet, it's an investment. Better living through chemistry, eh comrades? BSBD, Winsor Did you actually read any of the material you cited? This cite makes "Info Wars" look like a legitimate news source, using it as a source to try and convince people of what may well be a link between SSRIs and violence is sure not going to help. -
So your solution is to start wars with no intention of paying for them? Don Pretty stupid statement, Don. I also get a kick out of those who whine about the cost of going to war and how much the long term cost will be. After the Gulf War in 1991, 80% of the 80 Billion the U.S. spent was reimbursed by Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. Remember, Iraq is not without natural resources. I'm sure going to enjoy filling up my SUV with that $.49 per gallon Iraqi oil. Hmmmm......... I kinda like that idea.Cool In defense of Gravity, he doesn't really seemed concerned about payimg for the war then either, but rather reaping the benifits in the form of $.49 per gallon Iraqi gas. All the dead and maimed are but a small price to pay if you can fill up the SUV for $10 bucks. Greeted as liberators, the Iraqis will pay all the cost, and we will stabilize the Middle East... To be young and naive again.

You have to remember... and take note of the FACT that our Patriotic GOP congressional members has shot down any funding for veterans over and over.... their usual treatment after their hollow mouthing of the words "thank you for your service" homilies where they talked the talk.. while refusing to walk the walk. No jobs for vets allowed.... less funding for the VA...... way to show your support ( no not you TK) Speaking of Rubio and the gang... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zk5ZJ6uVO9Y&sns=emut to dry What govt. programs are you willing to reduce so there is money to commit to our Vets? That's nice, it seems like lately there's never been an issue of putting wars on the credit card, while simultaneously giving out huge tax breaks. Wasn't there once a time in this country when paying a war tax was considered Patriotic? If your not prepared to pay the complete cost of going to combat, perhaps that war is unnecessary.

Are you still in high school? Is that your slight-of-hand attempt to violate Forum Rule #1? It's an honest to god question. Your response is exactly what I would expect of a stoned teenager, playing on a Sony play station, if he was asked how the capital punishment issue should be handled. When you sounded baffled that a person who has confessed to a crime could only have ever been found guilty, that was another clue you were young. There's been countless people released from prison based on fake confessions, this should not be news to anyone, with the possible exception of the very young. You should check out the "The innocence project"

"United States of Secrets" - Frontline May 13 & May 20, 2014
jclalor replied to quade's topic in Speakers Corner
I finally got it on the DVR last night. If anyone thinks that frontline puts a political spin on this story, they simply have not watched it. When they interview virtually every person involved, it's almost too incredible to imagine that's there's an agenda behind this. I did get a new found respect for a lot of Bush-era DOJ and NSA officials who tried to do the right thing. I lost a lot of respect for Obama and his DOJ. I now find my self supporting Snowden. My long time hatred for Cheney is now only intensified, I think Dick and his buddy Addington played W for all they could. It was frightening how much power Cheney had and how he was able to use it.
