I understand your point. I try to use very little these days, and have never really used it on my lenses. I did put a very small "patch" smaller then a dime my auto swtich on my 20 mm fixed still lens after it got bumped once a rubber band won't protect it from that, and the gaffers don't turn to goo in the sun. As you well know from being on locations around the world, that sometimes you have to make things work for the conditions you're in. And we as free fall photographer are exposed to it all at some times as you know. Many of us have been using gaffers tape for years maybe this is why? But we used it because we could count on it to do the job where others failed and failed bad or at the worst time. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

I use gaffers for cables and for the video cam body ina few places. But for the most part as cameras have gotten better and more air tight, we don't have near the tape flutter we used to get. In the past you used to have the camera taped up even those guys I know jumping boxes and condoms have their video cam's taped all over. Now I have very little on my cameras but still have it on my helmet in places, and always keep a good size chunk on my helmet for thoe just in case times. As for focus I always used rubber bands till I moved to fixed 99% of the time. I do have small amounton my lens covering the auto/manual switch so it don't get moved. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

I was asked to train this one dude about two yrs ago, in class he was a little slow but he did have a bigass scar on his head, but seemed to understand and didn't do any worse then others, after class I took him to find his JM and he tells me he had an accident and got a brain injury in that accident. I asked what kind of accident? I didn't put him out and wouldn't, the dzo did though. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

I think you should tell "everyone" to fuck off! It's not their ass hanging in the saddle now is it. From the sounds of it you did as your were trained to do, you did a control check and felt you could land it, and what do ya know, ya did and did well. It's real easy for those who are safe and sound on the ground to monday morning Qb it, what a joke. Once under a canopy with an issue you only have to answer to you and god! Sounds like you kept your cool and calm, cool and collected will prevail over panic actions everytime and may make the defference between living and dying that day. I see you were under a sabre 190, you can lift your one leg up and push down with the other and make the canopy turn, while it may not be as fast as a toggle or riser, it is a good way to rest your arms and still be able to control your direction. Ask an instructor about how to slide your leg straps down once under canopy to improve harness turns. There are eight control imputs on a parachute, unless it's a crew canopy then there might be 10. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo -
Yea, but kind of hard to carry your desk top and use it on united airlines and the like. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

Yep and it is quick and easy and takes very little time to do. The newer G5 lines have a adapter you can get and by pass the camera, not sure if it works on my model, never used one. Aerialcameraman on here dose it that way. Big Steve @ the Farm has a imac and while I didn't time it he burns in iDVD and it seemed pretty dam fast, I was surprised how fast. I needed a laptop to be portable not a desktop, but down the road I can see getting a desktop for home. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

Just don't buy anymore! I'm on week 13 this coming Monday and I was a slave to Marlboro reds for 25 yrs. quit cold turkey. You have to really want to quit! It helps to think about stuff like: 1.That new car I wish I had to drive, RJR is driving. 2.That new canopy I wish I had, RJR is jumping it. 3.That new house i wish I lived in, RJR is living there. 4.That extra money I wish I had in a savings account RJR is spending it. 5.That vacation I wish I could afford to take the last 20 + yrs, RJR took it. And so and so it goes, if you want to quit, then do it today, right now, stop making excuses. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

I bet you'll soon learn it's about like going from windows 98 to vista, not that hard to learn, if I can do it anyone can. And way better then windows crap, ilife rocks! you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

Yea sell all that other crap and buy a mac bookpro or imac, make better videos almost as fast and just unplug it and put into your carry bag and go home. Best move I ever made was selling my mixer, titler, sound board, cd player, tv's. and got a 17 inch g4 powerbook, much easier then hauling around all that other shit and hooking it all up and taken it down, like you said. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

Yea got one just like it, only different, packed and ready to jump but with a MK-1 in it. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo

It's about time someone brings to the table a workable salution to the problem. Now would that be the good old standard Louieville slugger or should those new fancy aluminum kind? I vote for the new kind because they won't get burnt in the bon fire by the drunks, and the new kind make a really cool sound when you thump someone up side their mellon with it & there lighter and easier to swing fast, you can call home and just ask my wife. you can't pay for kids schoolin' with love of skydiving! ~ Airtwardo
