Maybe now she'll believe and understand why we're chasing after her.... You guys are supposed to be drooling over 22-year old waitresses, remember? Me, I'm gonna go find myself a boy toy...or two. rl P.S. I'm so far over 40 that I'm much closer to 50. But I'm sure there's an essay floating around out there for us older women. http://library.thinkquest.org/10136/famine/famitq.htm A lot of the famine and starvation is in the third world countries because they don't have enough money and resources to keep their people well fed and healthy. Even though there are still people who are starving and homeless in the first world countries, they still receive some kind of aid from the country they live in. Consider what would happen to us if there were no aid after the hurricanes. I'm not talking about Katrina. I'm talking about what happens in Florida every single year. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb

Just being within the legal limit doesn't mean that one is not impaired. I don't drink much, and my body doesn't process alcohol very well anymore. One beer is enough to cross my eyes. If I had to blow, they'd have to let me go, but that wouldn't mean that I should be driving. There are too many dead people who are dead because of drunk drivers. I'll admit it. I'm defective. I can't argue this much factual inaccuracy. It just boggles my brain. The only bit of luck is that you have no decision-making power in this matter. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb -

Ah, missed that. Now it all makes sense. Maybe instead of food, we should send them quick-acting poison? I'm still kinda boggled about the "kids" thing. If the logic is that by having fewer kids, more will survive because they'll be better able to provide for them, what is wrong with these people that they don't go to the Planned Parenthood clinics in their towns and get some free birth control? But maybe someone already covered this, and I missed it. I was just having such a difficult time reading these posts, I skipped over a few. On a less ironic note, my grandparents' families--on all four sides--were quite large for both the reason cited in previous posts and because children represented a goodly part of the labor force at the time. All of my grandparents were born in the US in the early 20th, and when I think of that, it reminds of the natural and unnatural disasters that befell this country at that time. Google on "the dustbowl" and "the great depression" for example. It's enlightening. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb

I'm still trying to figure out why we're blaming them for the natural disasters represented by famine and drought. I can't handle this thread. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb

People often confuse psychotic with psychopathic, but the two couldn't be more different. I recently read a very succinct characterization of the psychopath: Neither logic nor ordinary emotions served as a foundation for his actions. Power--and the pleasure he got from exercising it--and survival were his only motivations. (Dean Koontz understands personality disorders better than anyone I've ever come across.) The psychotic, on the other hand...well, how many of you have seen A Beautiful Mind? Did you actually understand that what John Nash was seeing during his psychotic episodes was totally real to him? As real as anything you see from day-to-day? If Andrea Yates were personality disordered, I'd be demanding cruel and unusual punishment for what she did, but as it is, the only feeling I can muster is overwhelming pity--for her and for her children. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. You just don't know who you're talking to. Ray's got more smarts in his baby finger than you appear to have in your whole body. I work for a firm that has about 10 like that...and another who probably isn't. But I worked for one who was stealing, and when I turned him in, there wasn't a lawyer anywhere who wanted to hire me. So I agree there are some, but I think their distribution probably matches that of the rest of the population. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. The point I was trying to make, before I got sidetracked by someone who will remain nameless , is that the people here are not, for the most part, strangers to each other. When I worked at DeLand, I hugged people all the time, and some of the were people I'd just met. I don't do that out in the real world. I'm not too inclined to let people I don't know touch me...unless they're skydivers/basejumpers...and I guess the reason is that any skydiver I run into is very likely acquainted with another skydiver I know. Now I'll grant you that there are some jumpers I wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole, but that's a different issue. Everyone starts in the same place with me--I'll trust you until you show yourself to be unworthy of trust, and then, if you actually give a shit (because most times when people betray you, they say they give a shit but they're lying), you'll have to earn it back. I don't offer that much slack to people out in the rest of the world. Weird, I know. But I never claimed to be anything but. rl P.S. You should never force yourself to be physically close when it makes you uncomfortable. It won't make you more comfortable. Caring about someone means respecting their boundaries, and there's no point in caring about people who don't care about you.
