WalMart sells an enzyme spray for cat and dog urine. Look in the pet aisle. It works as well as anything you'll get at the pet store, and it's less expensive. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb

Yes, I'm damned judgmental when judgment is called for, and regardless of what experience I lack, I'm very experienced at judging irresponsible and self-aggrandizing behavior. It isn't rude to call something what it is. I don't mind that you felt compelled to take the cheap, easy shot at me, because it was...a cheap, easy shot, and I understand how that would be hard for you to resist. But how do you answer all the other comments on the various threads from those you are unable to personally attack for lack of fodder? Not that my few jumps is really very good fodder under the circumstances. After all, I was never dumb enough to go so far beyond my experience level that I made the base community look like a bunch of idiots. Anyway, if Nevada was number 59 and California was 90, what number was Colorado? Or is it just that there's another guy running around out there pretending to be you? Finally, let me just offer you two small clues: a) "you did it too" is a logical fallacy. It is more formally known as the "tu quoque" fallacy, and b) an attack on other people couched as an apology is not an apology worth having. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gun crime has gone done 13 years in a row, to a 40-year low. And that is despite the fact that there are more guns than ever in circulation, and 35+ states which now issue concealed handgun carry permits to their citizens. That is strong evidence to suggest that gun ownership and gun carry by honest citizens, does not cause gun crime. I'm not sure what your reply has to do with my post. You cut out the part between the "whys" and "stupidity" which makes it seem as though my point is something it's not. Just to be clear, I'm not for gun control. I have a lifelong appreciation for firearms. Don't mangle my words again, please. I was replying to your comment that "We'll pay for this stupidity eventually". My reply showed that it is not stupidity, because we are not paying any price for it. This was the comment that you mangled: The gun control laws take away from honest, law-abiding citizens the constitutional right to bear arms, leaving criminals with all the firepower. We'll pay for this stupidity eventually. The gun control laws, and all the attempts to put gun control laws into effect is stupid. This was my point, and it was directly on-point for this thread. Now my point is that I do not want you to take my comments out of context. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb

This is small and petty, but it drives me crazy. Throughout the tape, I kept hearing "guide wire." They are not "guide wires," they are "guy wires." rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb

So says you. There is nothing incompatible about showing someone else a gun in a DZ parking lot, and using good judgement and caution. They can occur together, despite your personal belief to the contrary. My personal belief to the contrary is the result of having suffered the consequences--in a second-hand, but nonetheless painful sort of way. I'm telling you that what you're doing isn't smart, even if you think you have no worries. But you get to choose, and I never said you didn't. It is simply my opinion that your choice is foolhardy and ill-advised. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb

I assume nothing of the kind. Read my follow-up post and everything else I've written on the subject. Making a production of having firearms is not smart. I know that from personal experience. If you want to show off your weaponry, the appropriate place is not in a place where any old Tom, Dick or Harry can see you do it. Although...if you're buying your firearms at WalMart, they're probably not worth stealing anyway, in which case, it's probably no big deal. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. There would be many fewer accidental injuries if parents who own guns would teach their children proper respect for firearms. I grew up in a house where the guns hung on the wall. Ammunition was in the closet and down in the basement where my father did his reloads. It never occurred to my sister or me to touch any of these things without permission. Never. And I was not a particularly obedient child. I was, however, very aware from an early age exactly what a firearm can do. I've talked to other people who grew up as I did. Same thing all around. We were taught proper respect for firearms from the very beginning, and because nothing was locked up, hidden away or otherwise made forbidden in a way that is tempting to a child, it was never an issue. As for other accidents with guns, maybe better hunter education is the key there. I taught a hunter safety course one year (bow, not firearms), and my feeling was that although the course was adequate, it wasn't extensive enough. I don't think the answer is taking away firearms, but I do think that better education for those who are newcomers to them is a good idea. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Okay, that's different. Makes perfect sense when you explain it that way. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb

I think guns have their place. I don't think their place is part of a show and tell routine in any parking lot. I grew up with guns in the house. And I know firsthand the consequences of talking too much about the firearms one owns even to those one calls friends (and sometimes even family). It only takes one small error in judgment to create a huge problem. I'm not talking about the accidental discharge of a firearm, btw. The tendency to play show and tell needs to be tempered with a certain amount of good judgment and caution. Playing with (showing off) firearms in the parking lot doesn't fall into that category. But it's a matter of live and learn, I suppose, and if someone would prefer to learn from their own experience instead of experience-once-removed, so be it. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Can you explain this so it makes any sense at all? I mean, it's certainly your right to be known as anything you like, but it's kinda...strange. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb

Because they're fun, because they're useful, because we can. Why? What business is it of yours if I want to show a fellow gun enthusiast a firearm that is in my truck, and I do so safely and out in the parking lot? Do you have a permit to carry that thing in your truck? Would you do this in the parking lot at Wal-Mart? If not, then why at the parking lot of the dropzone? There's a time and place for everything. At the dz, what you show off is your gear and your ability to fly. Serves you right if someone breaks into your truck and takes your firearm after your narcissistic little show and tell session. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. I just have to wonder... Does a duck have a certain body part so large he has to pretend it's a fanny pack when it shows up in the video of a featherless skydive? Inquiring minds want to know. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb

You must have missed the part about this being his third time around. "Hate," however, is a pretty strong word. How about "disbelief," "contempt" and "outrage"? The guy is a self-aggrandizing moron. I tried to listen to it a few days ago when 13 first put it on their website. I got halfway through, and I had to turn it off because it was so humiliating. I've had a hard time reading the threads about him since then. Ordinarily, I'm not that unempathic, but I can't find even a drop of feeling for this guy that isn't either revulsion or contempt. Definitely not a guy you'd want at your back when it all goes south. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb
