I'm pretty sure she would reject us both. Oh well. I'm very fond of you both. I've been to Michigan twice (maybe three times), and I hate it. Not only that, I've never known anyone from Michigan who isn't totally insane, except for Jeff, and the jury is still out on that. I've been through Texas once. It was not the happiest lifetime of my life (big state, long drive). Texans seem a little saner than people from Michigan, though. Maybe. But the simple fact of the matter is I'm saving both of you guys from a fate worse than death. I am a pain in the ass. I've got references. Trust me. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb

Oh...you should have expected anything. I started a not particularly well-meaning thread, and while no one really addressed the issue I was trying to point out, a couple of people were especially harsh in jumping on things I hadn't even written. It was one of the more bizarre experiences I've had online, more so because it wasn't a controversial topic by anyone's measure. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. I vaguely remember listening to some of her music a while back and thinking that is was pretty much "wrist slashing" music; thoroughly depressing. Is that her or am I just imagining? Click the links, read the lyrics, tell me. Some of what she writes is sad, but it's her life she writes about, and parts of it have been sad. But there is always hope. "Jubilee" comes to mind, as does "The Better to Dream of You" and a whole bunch of others. So I don't know who you were listening to.

If the woman is one-dimensional, her writing will be one-dimensional too. The whole thing felt like a Potemkin Village to me. Just out of curiosity, how do you feel about the money speech in isolation? Ignore the rest of the book, ignore the website it is hosted at, ignore Rand's objectivistm and ignore the author and her personal life; just tell me what you think of the speech's content. Truly? The idea is fine, but for her, it's derivative. She didn't invent it--it's stolen property interpreted through the lens of a narcissist's experience. And it could have been boiled down to a paragraph or two by a better writer. Most of it is nothing more than hyperbole. I'm harsh, am I not? rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb

This is one of the biggest problems with online play. It's better to remember it's all play until you're in the same place at the same time, and then you have to get to know each other all over again... ...that is, if it's a relationship you're after, not just sex. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Quite a bit of it incorrect or outdated. I did me. It has an address I lived at more than ten years ago and a more generic listing with my month and year of birth, plus a whole lot of dopplegangers. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb

Dream on, little Broomstick Cowboy... Broomstick Cowboy Dream on little Broomstick Cowboy Of rocket ships and Mars Of sunny days and Willie Mays And chocolate candy bars Dream on little Broomstick Cowby Dream while you can of big green frogs and puppy dogs And castles in the sand For all too soon you'll waken Your toys will all be gone Your broomstick horse will ride away To find another home And you'll have grown into a man With cowboy of your own And then you'll have to go to war To try and save your home And then you'll have to learn to hate You'll have to learn to kill It's always been that way my son I guess it always will No broomstick gun they'll hand you No longer you'll pretend You'll call some man your enemy You used to call him friend And when the rockets thunder You'll hear your brothers cry And through it all you'll wonder Just why they had to die So dream on little Broomstick Cowboy Dream while you can For soon you'll be a dreadful thing My son, you'll be a man I had to. woman, sometimes partly responsible for rape?
RhondaLea replied to artistcalledian's topic in Speakers Corner
Go start a different thread, and I'll agree with you. But that's not what this thread started out being about, and it's two separate issues, both of which are wrong, wrong, wrong. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb -
woman, sometimes partly responsible for rape?
RhondaLea replied to artistcalledian's topic in Speakers Corner
It doesn't help that this was part of the first post: I 100% agree that all rape is wrong, but if a woman is dressed like a slut, leads a man on... goes back to his house, then says no to sex right at the last moment..... she must shoulder some of the blame for what happens next I said that there are two separate issues that are being confused here. And now we have several more. But based on the post that started it all: This is not a discussion about BDSM (or any kind of sex) games--in that context "no" doesn't mean "no" and that's why God made safe words. This is not a discussion about crazy people--if you get involved with an emotional game player, nothing you do will ever be right, so even if you hear yes, it's more than likely ten weeks later you're going to hear that "yes" really meant "no." Does that make one a rapist after the fact? Of course not. But it's still not what we're talking about. This is not a discussion about whether putting oneself in a dangerous discussion is stupid--no question, it's stupid. But even if you're stupid, the blame for another person's actions rests solely on that person. I find it scary that some guys seem to think that dickteasing somehow entitles them to take what they want, whether it's offered or not. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. woman, sometimes partly responsible for rape?
RhondaLea replied to artistcalledian's topic in Speakers Corner
The way to avoid being looked at as being a deviant or rapist is to not be one. Rape fantasies aren't rape. Sex games between consenting adults that include a pretense of forced sex aren't rape. Thinking about rape isn't rape. Inflicting sex on a non-consenting woman person--whatever the moment s/he withholds his/her consent--is rape. We can split hairs and discuss non-relevant exceptions all day long, Alex. Based on Ian's initial postulate, none of them apply. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb -
woman, sometimes partly responsible for rape?
RhondaLea replied to artistcalledian's topic in Speakers Corner
Now we're talking about borderline personality disorder. Don't know what to say, Alex. We all know whacked out people--men and women. Trying to take them into account is difficult to do in a discussion like this one, because everything they do is perpendicular to normal. There was, however, no need to take this outside the rape issue. I was very careful to say in another post: "There are exceptions to this that relate to an ongoing relationship and the assumptions we make while in one, but they have nothing to do with this thread. But even in a relationship where "yes" is implied, "no" still means "don't do it."" I added that in because of something that happened once to someone I know. If you're dealing with a psycho, anything can happen. The best choice is to avoid having relationships with psychos, because in such a relationship, all you can count on is that nothing will ever make sense. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. woman, sometimes partly responsible for rape?
RhondaLea replied to artistcalledian's topic in Speakers Corner
we're getting a little sidelined on the point i'm trying to make. I'm 100% agreed that all rape is wrong, But what i'm trying to say is that its also wrong for a woman to do certain things and expect her "no" to then be taken seriously every time. I'm talking about the real world here, in real situations I'm saying that there is a disconnect between the two premises that you're trying to relate. It may be bad for a woman to be a dick tease. The price for that is a reputation as a dick tease. Period. There is no justification for rape. And if there is no justification for rape, a person cannot be held to blame for being raped no matter what that person does. The separate issue of taking measures to protect oneself from harm has nothing to do with the original argument you made. That issue applies to many things beyond rape, and it applies to men as well as women. The failure to stay out of bad areas, however, still does not make one responsible for the bad behavior of others. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. I sometimes think this is why it is better to get to know someone from a distance (online) first. You never know where these attitudes are going to come up. What I do know is that people who think this way are people I want to avoid at all cost. For the guy who made the statement: It's not just women who get to change their minds at any time. I want you to think about all the times you've changed your mind about anything, and then tell me why sex should be different from any other decision one makes. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Because you might need their support for something that they don't care about and also find repulsive? Even if someone is a totally self-centered person, enlightened self-interest dictates taking into account how one might benefit from the support of those who actually vote. Remember, you're relying on the rest of us to make your choices for you. It would pay to be nice. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from. Gullah Proverb

I wouldn't add anything. Doubling recipes is not always a good idea--sometimes the ingredients need to be adjusted--but don't add anything. Instead, bake a test batch, and see how they come out. Describe the results, and maybe it will be possible to determine what ingredient you haven't enough of, if any. rl If you don't know where you're going, you should know where you came from.
