  1. and Best to find that rigger and give him a bottle of what he wants. "Even in a world where perfection is unattainable, there's still a difference between excellence and mediocrity." Gary73
  2. Try Turoff and Poynter's Skydiver's Handbook "Even in a world where perfection is unattainable, there's still a difference between excellence and mediocrity." Gary73
  3. Relax, John. I know the difference between off DZ jumps and bandit jumps, having made many of both sorts. For simplicity in my post, I chose to say "bandit". I think the context is easily understood. Funny that you've managed to completey ignore the substance of my comments. I think you'll find it more comfortable to keep those knickers untwisted. "Even in a world where perfection is unattainable, there's still a difference between excellence and mediocrity." Gary73
  4. Two weeks ago, as a self-described new jumper, you asked for gear help here, and now you're asking for advice on bandit jumps. I hope you're under somebody's wing. "Even in a world where perfection is unattainable, there's still a difference between excellence and mediocrity." Gary73
  5. I know it's sometimes nice (and necessary) to get away from the work, Jim, but maybe you've taken that too far!??!?! "Even in a world where perfection is unattainable, there's still a difference between excellence and mediocrity." Gary73
  6. Here you go. "Even in a world where perfection is unattainable, there's still a difference between excellence and mediocrity." Gary73
  7. I agree with Paul that the word "appropriate" should be included in 65.111.c.2, or an assignation to the qualification of 65.111.c.1. Because of the time and attention given to the subsection it makes little sense to not be clear in ss2 as in ss1. If it were a blanket assignation, it would have been made in 65.111, not in the subsection. That "or" gives it away. The fact that it is debatable on Day One proves the lack. As for packing mains, type ratings, etc., it is my understanding any rigger can pack and/or maintain a main, or supervise another, within his priveleges. No type rating is specified, just rigger. 8. Moving the door opening altitude higher will take the AAD out of its firing range. "Even in a world where perfection is unattainable, there's still a difference between excellence and mediocrity." Gary73
  9. I'm familiar with that sort, although I think they're not the norm. Regardless that attitude, one can typically eyeball another's 3-rings while dirt diving, emplaning, riding the stench chamber to altitude, etc. I hope it's common practice to visually inspect other's gear from donning to exit. It is where I've jumped. "Even in a world where perfection is unattainable, there's still a difference between excellence and mediocrity." Gary73
  10. Have fun learning. When you're more experienced and ready to try other DZs, give Monroe a try. You'll have a great time. Blues. "Even in a world where perfection is unattainable, there's still a difference between excellence and mediocrity." Gary73
  11. And going strong. Congrats. "Even in a world where perfection is unattainable, there's still a difference between excellence and mediocrity." Gary73
  12. I've learned to keep a pair of glasses here and there (they're liable to pop up anywhere, which can be convenient). Perhaps I'll become as foresighted about the Manuals. "Even in a world where perfection is unattainable, there's still a difference between excellence and mediocrity." Gary73
  13. Congrats - welcome to the sport. Did you jump at Monroe? You'll like it there - great folks and good jumps. "Even in a world where perfection is unattainable, there's still a difference between excellence and mediocrity." Gary73
  14. Eternal memory. BSBD "Even in a world where perfection is unattainable, there's still a difference between excellence and mediocrity." Gary73
  15. I need to buy another copy of Poynter's books. I hate having to go downstairs to the loft get them every time I want to look something up! And is it just me, or is it oxymoronic to have the loft downstairs? "Even in a world where perfection is unattainable, there's still a difference between excellence and mediocrity." Gary73
  16. Coming out of the tunnel he gets jammed up behind a motorcycle and the video jumps to a new shot. I'm wondering if they edited out a wipe-out. I'd like to see how he handled it - and is it the same motorcycle he blazes past a video-moment later? 17. Complacency? Not running the white loop through the terminal end isn't complacency. It's stupidity, ignorance, or both. Not running the loop through the terminal end is akin to putting both legs into one leghole of your undies. Sure it works, but it's clearly not right....and it doesn't take a genius to recognize it. 18. What was the problem with your Mirage? The Racer 2k3 is an excellent rig. ETA: How did you almost die in it? Was the hard pull on the reserve? Do you have an AAD? Also - the Racer 2k3 is an excellent rig. "Even in a world where perfection is unattainable, there's still a difference between excellence and mediocrity." Gary73
  19. You're certainly entitled to have your opinion, but I know from long experience that too-short unstowed lines leads to linetwists on deployment. Sufficient unstowed lines does not. 20. I don't know who you're jumping with, but if you think that's not glaringly obvious, you're not doing proper or good gear checks. "Even in a world where perfection is unattainable, there's still a difference between excellence and mediocrity." Gary73
  21. Malcolm, packing the Racer is very easy. The tricky part is getting the rig flipped over. If it's a small hat, use a molar strap to contain the PC. If its a large hat, you can hold it with your hand and flip it. If the rig is CYPRES equipped, you'll have to be careful about getting the closing loops through the cutters. The Jumpshack trick isn't the best, but it works. Hot tip: Don't leave a lot of slack/excess in the pullup cord you use to bring the closing loops through the container. There is a risk of wrapping around the cutter, requiring you to go back and start over. Remember to use only CYPRES material for the pullup cord. Also, use the long portion of the ripcord to manipulate and set the first pin. Nova "Even in a world where perfection is unattainable, there's still a difference between excellence and mediocrity." 22. Scott, I spoke with Nancy R yesterday on another matter and asked her about the DVD. She said they're not planning/going to upload it. "Even in a world where perfection is unattainable, there's still a difference between excellence and mediocrity." Gary73
  23. Are you still jumping the Wings? How much unstowed line are you leaving? I suggest nice tight bights and 20 - 24" unstowed lines. +1 what Twardo said. Also, Dave is right on about checking the symmetry of the 3-rings. N "Even in a world where perfection is unattainable, there's still a difference between excellence and mediocrity." Gary73
  24. Yeah - you look so glum in those pics. Great photos - congrats on the accomplishment. ETA : "/" "Even in a world where perfection is unattainable, there's still a difference between excellence and mediocrity." Gary73
  25. I check the pullforce if it's an especially easy or difficult closing. I don't write it down because I wasn't trained to, I've never been asked to and there's no specific place on a PDC for the info. The typical PDC is pretty inadequate as it is, in terms of having space to get information into the slots. I don't recall ever seeing the pullforce on any of my personal PDCs from before I earned my rigger seal. So I guess I'm saying it just hasn't come up.
