  1. This poor guy seems to have had a run of bad luck. Condolences to F & F. Fall From Mt. Washington "Even in a world where perfection is unattainable, there's still a difference between excellence and mediocrity." Gary73
  2. Robin - you seem to feel a real need to have this research done and you seem to be a forerunner of the "open access" debate. Why, then, don't you do the research into other sports' practices for involving minors and report the findings to the skydiving community rather than repetetively asking others to do the research? As nice as it would be, I think it's a candle-in-the-wind proposition. N "Even in a world where perfection is unattainable, there's still a difference between excellence and mediocrity." Gary73
  3. @ Spootch - you got it. @ fasted & Billvon - straining at gnats? In my world, annoyance is a minor pique, not a massive blow-out. Did you notice I "fixed" the referenced post from "cock" to "check"? Did you notice that I said IMO&E? In my opinion and experience? Maybe you didn't so I'll explain. I see no point in cocking the PC when giving it to the packer as he/she will cock the PC when getting to that part of the packjob. Pre-cocking it doesn't save time for the packer because he's going to do it anyway. Cocking before packing brings the bag up against the topskin, which for several reasons, IMO&E, is an annoyance. As a packer, it's annoying to have somebody slowing him down because Joe Jumper is cocking the PC while the packer is trying to get started. If you're going to use paid packers, check to see if he/she wants the PC cocked. In my experience, most will not. If you have your own special way of packing and want it packed that way, pack it yourself. Otherwise, choose your packer well and stick with a good one. 6. So she had Slyde lie on the stand - how did she have this done, Mike? Was it for 30 silver pieces? Are you saying you think his honesty and integrity could be so easily bought? If he was so willing to lie, why didn't he do so to save his own ass/business/reputation? It's rotten to speak ill of the dead not because of sentimentality but because that person is unable to defend himself. Slyde may be gone, but I'd like to see the evidence that backs up those comments, Mike. 7. While AIRing a CYPRES equipped Racer this evening, I got to wondering how other riggers get the closing loops through the cutters. I use a ghost loop and a compression strap. I fingertrap the running ends around the closing loops. It takes a little longer but I don't mind that and I don't worry about losing the closing loop at the cutter. Which method is your preference? 9. I'd be interested in the feedback, as I'm sure will others be. Perhaps you can take any info you get in PMs, remove any identifying labels, etc., and post the facts and/or opinions? 10. You shouldn't get bored. In addition to diving (Coz, Tulum, Xel Ha, etc) there are plenty of "touristy" things to do on the Pennisula. Coz is only 10 miles or so from the mainland and it's not difficult to get back and forth. BTDT - had a great time. 12. I'm not going to say Prince isn't off the deep end, or that he's not done some strange shit in his time, but I will say he is greatly underrated as a performer, musician and producer. The guy has mad skillz, and like Barry Gibb, is, unbenknownst to many, behind a lot of good popular music. One other thing, he changed his name to a symbol, the pronunciation of which is "The Artist". So it's The Artist (formerly known as Prince). You may now return to your necrophiliac fun. 13. Yes - such as the part in the incident where "the guy" (cough, cough) detaches his helmet before cutting away. The video clearly shows no reach for the reserve handle, but the Log indicates the jumper stated his hand was on it but he chose to not pull. That's fiction, alright. 15. I was jumping at Titusville in 1993 and was doing an Iron Cross jump with a local. We were faced off for a few moments when he starts shaking his head around with his tongue hanging out, a huge smile on, and pointing down. I looked and there it was - we were falling into a circular rainbow. It was amazing while it lasted, which seemed a long time. One of the coolest things I've seen. Until that moment it never occured to me that a rainbow should be circular. And I'm still angry at the gay community for taking the rainbow. 16. I keep a rigger's kit in my car and usually have a client rig or two in there as well. I lock up not because of the jumpers, but because of the large number of people coming and going because of tandems. In years past this wasn't an issue, but just as I lock up at the mall or wherever, I now do so at the DZ if it's a busy tandem day. 17. The reason you should stop posting on this thread isn't because you've said several times you're going to, it's because the more you post the more you look like an ignorant dipshit. Just sayin. 18. Like Tetra and Sapphire and Southern Man said, the sky will always be there, and it's not a good idea to jump when you're taking narcotic pain meds. Poised exits are common from the Cessna. RW exits, tandem with video, FF, etc. Learning to avoid the snag and smash points is part of learning to jump the Cessna. Keep your head on tight, look up when you're doing a forward-facing poised exit, and don't smash your hand, ankle, knee, elbow, head, face, etc. on the step! Good luck with those chompers. 19. The only time I've ever personally dubbed a tape I used Don Felder's
  20. @DSE I know you don't take that personally, Douglas, as this guy is a jackass to everyone! Hopefully he'll grow enough to one day be properly embarrassed by the stuff he's been saying in these threads. 21. Sucks about your teeth! And you performed your in-air tasks anyway! Damn!!!!! One thing to remember about the 182 poised exit is to get way out there on the strut - all the way out. If your JM requires you to have a foot on the step, have your left foot on the very outer edge and the rest of you all the way out! If you're on the step, holding the V and your JM is outside, step back and give a little push with your hands. Don't hop up, just step back and give a push. Good luck with your teeth. 22. [rigger viewpoint] Flaking the parachute isn't a "good" thing in that not flaking isn't a "bad" thing. Flaking is a better thing. The best benefit of flaking is consistency of openings. When packing, the most important thing is to get the lines taut and even from connection (riser) to attachment (bottom skin). This is easier done by flaking, which brings the lines to the center of the packjob. The second most important thing is to control the slider: up tight against the stops, evenly quartered. The third most important thing is to manage the first two during folding and bagging. Finally, have tight, even locking loops and line stows. [/rigger viewpoint] Talk to your local rigger for packing tips for your specific parachute. Blues. 24. My DZ gives a Certificate and a bumper sticker to each tandem pax. They also get an offer for a reduced rate for the AFF FJC if they choose to continue. This all seems to be well liked.
