I have one of those orange colored USAF hook knifes (GREAT hook knife BTW). I cut some parachute cord with that and with a pocket knife and I cant see any diff. 377 Tina saw him reach in his pocket and pull out a pocket knife and CUT the line(s). Tina did not see him goto the xtra step of pulling a cigarette liter and MELT the ends of the cut lines. I dont know 550 from 420 from XVIII-990 when it comes to parachute lines but here are some 550 images I found, cut. The fraying must be due to the atomic-molec structure of the material in its twisted woven state ... wants to untwist and spring out due to energy in the 'stressed long chain' molecule ... pure speculation on my part. Melting overcomes those energies and rearranges the atoms into a more stable (semi glass) state. Isnt this the same stuff (some) use for antenna and tower lines?

Interesting observation regarding sticking to familiar materials. and familiar methods...

Actually, WE owe Geoff Grey. It was his work that helped bring KC into the light as a suspect. You called 'baloney' but didn't like reading the researched response. Your 'effect on the real world' comment sounds like a cop-out. There is a large inconsistency at this point. You said all along you did not care if Cooper was KC and you wanted back to your regular work regime, and now here you are (Jo style) weeks later not only defending KC but also trying to convince the world Geof Grey supports KC as being Cooper (when in fact he doesnt and never did!). All Geof was doing was bringing a person to light who others had commented about already - Geof has a pure journalistic background unbridled by commercialistic concerns like you do. That is not just an inconsistency on your part about your motives, but an actual false statement in terms of Geof Grey. I have discussed these matters with Geof Grey and nothing you say fits with what Mr. Grey previously told me. What is this? Blevins Uber Alles Max Frie? Either we believe KC was Cooper or what? The sky will fall? Badgering people isnt going to put KC or you "on the plane". Its too bad you are attempting to force a public statement out of Geof. Is it not like Bruce trying to force Tina to speak under guise of 'welfare'? Except for Bernie;s belated endorsement you havent given one piece of actual proof KC had anything to do with this hijacking. My guess is, you have painted a very one-sided portrait of KC, almost prosecutorial which you then call research. It's all bias pure and simple until you produce one item of evidence that links KC to this crime and my bet is you cant and never will do that because it isnt there as fact. You must be counting on nothing ever surfacing which says concretely 'Cooper died', or lived and was somewhere else .... or other items of evidence which would discount your claim? Or you would have the capacity to counter argue against such evidence. That my friend is a tall order. You have bet against Nature and Man!

Baloney! You should be telling this to Skipp Porteous. He and Grey both live in New York, and Porteous has spoken to him many times since 2007. If Grey still didn't stand by his article, or he thought it was inaccurate, he would have pulled it by now, or written a counter-article. I have not seen this from him. And no one, including Jo, myself, or you, actually KNOWS what is in Grey's upcoming book. That is between Grey and his publisher. The only announcement was the public one about reviewing all the suspects. EDIT: I have sent a message to Skipp Porteous asking him to clarify Grey's position, that is, whether he's changed his mind since 2007. I should have an answer on this tomorrow. After doing an extensive Google search this evening, I find absolutely nothing on Grey that even HINTS that he no longer considers KC a strong suspect. His publisher knows this, too. Google is showing one KC/Grey link after another and nothing else. This should be telling you something. His book is very likely going to be a general review of all the suspects, and will lean toward KC as the strongest one. If he had changed his mind about this, something would have emerged by now. His book was put over until August of this year, even though Crown Books was supposed to release it last summer. It was even listed in Crown's 2010 summer catalog. (You can see it at Issuu.com) What probably happened is that Grey had to do a rewrite once he got a look at the additional information on Christiansen that became available with Blast. Porteous provided him with a copy. I've also authorized the release of the PDF to the Revised Edition to Grey, via Porteous. I told Porteous to tell Grey he is free to use it as a reference if he wishes and to take excerpts if he wants. Consult your bones and trinkets and guess again. Geof Grey does not owe you and Porteous one damned thing that I know of and whatever that might be has no affect on the real world, in any event. Calm down. Go to bed.

As you know, Grey thinks KC was the hijacker, although his new book reviews all the major possibles. Baloney!

Make sure to note if they are righthand or lefthand hinges. It matters. Not a chance would I go near Bonney Lake to check this out. No one would believe my results anyway. If this is done, it needs to be done by an independent third party or someone from the local law enforcement community. Robt could it be it doesnt matter? It proves nothing apriori lacking authenticated linkage to Mr. Christiansen or the Cooper case. I think that's what everyone is trying to suggest?
-
I suppose at some point I will have to drag myself up to Bonney Lake with a ladder and ask Rattenbury if I can go into the attic. Make sure to note if they are righthand or lefthand hinges. It matters.

I'm sorry Mr. Blevins, you just explained why Kenny could not have been DB Cooper. You probably don't realize it but everyone here on DZ.com knows: gay men can't breath in freefall. Good night Grandpa. "Good night Hinge". God help us!
-
I still want to see the hinge picture. If there was a hinge why on earth didnt they show it on the video??? The mechanical engineer on board left her gas chromatigraph in the car, so could not "show" the hinge(s). Think this out. Frame. Board being held in by frame 'from the top". That requires quarter round or what we call 'parting stop' underneath the board, to hold it up - otherwise board falls into the room below. What does that add up to? Ordinary attic access hole, framed in, with cover over the hole. Sheeeeesh! I thought this needed DECODED. Good night Mary Ellen. Good night Grandpa. Good night Benjamin. Good night Grandma. Good night Erin. Good night Mom. Good night Elizabeth. Good night Mom. Good night Hinge. Good night John Boy.

Well… I’m not so sure about the year, month, day, and hour. Look at (FBI) page 149 of the transcripts. You will see that Jack Graves , Assistant Chief, Seattle-Tacoma Tower, who supervised the reproduction of the transcript, affirms that it is a true copy of the original recording. If you look closely you will also see that the period covered by this transcript is from approximately 00:11 GMT to approximately 01:05 GMT on November 24th, 1971. Hmmm… That would be 16:11 to 17:05 PST on November 23rd, 1971, a day earlier than the hijack occurred. My point? All documents, all reports, all articles, even ones from impeccable sources (in this case the FBI) are full of errors… human errors. Placing unyielding faith and any one document surrounding NORJAK without attempting to reconcile it against other documents and common sense is an approach that leads to less clarity rather than more clarity. Just IMHO, from one who has been starring at this shit for about 35-years and has dedicated his efforts to add clarity (i.e. separate the facts from the myths). Well timed. I love it.. as I am waiting for a plow to plow me out 4 hours late. Guess I will have to go do it myself. Clocks and positions. Positions and clocks. This case is full of clocks most people have never heard of, and probably never will... just depends on whether you want a Rolex, an atomic clock, or placing your thumb on your nose and your little fingure at 1:00 oclock. We have no record of the barge & ship traffic up and down the Columbia that night. Blevins? Get to work.

If the shroud lines were cut by making a U loop and then using a sharp pocket knife to cut it, the cut should be at an angle (roughly 45 degrees) rather than directly across the line. If he had a rather dull pocket knife blade, then he might need to make two or three cutting motions to complete the cut and that would result in fraying type cuts (rather than a single neat one). Robert Nicholson The only photo I have showing the shroud line ends is this one - maybe someone has something better?
-
A cigarette lighter can definitely burn (or melt) through shroud lines and melting the ends of a fresh cut is an effective means of preventing the lines from unraveling further. Cooper carried a cigarette lighter because he smoked and needed a light. He apparently had no idea that he would have to cut shroud lines since he thought he was asking for parachutes with D-rings and for a knapsack, or backpack, that had loops that he could run the parachute harness through. So in my opinion he was just lucky that he normally carried a pocket knife. Robert Nicholson Larry said the lines had been cut (frayed) - melting would have been noted? Pure conjecture on my part.

Guru and Jerry, I think Jerry is right on this point. Back in the "old days", Boy Scouts (and I used to be one) had to practice and demonstrate the tying of a range of knots including the simple square knot. Parachute shroud lines are very easy to tie and I'll bet Amazon made sure her survival students knew a range of uses for those shroud lines. Since the typical canopy shroud line on an emergency chute is rated at 500+ pounds or so, the money bag could be easily secured to a parachute harness (tying it around the waist is not recommended) by punching holes in it as Georger has suggested. To me, the interesting point is that Cooper had a pocket knife and that he apparently routinely carried such a knife. If he had not had a pocket knife, what do you think he could have used to cut the shroud lines? I can almost completely assure you that there wasn't anything else on that airplane that he could have cut the shroud lines with. The cutlery would not get the job done (based on my personal experience with airline cutlery in that time frame) and it is unlikely that anything in a first aid kit or anything else available in the aircraft cabin could do the job. Robert Nicholson were there razor blades in those first aid kits?

Good grief! Thanks for the link ... I have to thank you for never mentioning the Hawkeyes. I would lose it.

I havent posted ANY pictures as per your-Jerry's request. Im staying out of this.

I've slept in a parachute and I've done a few other things. As usual, Jim, you hone in on the issue in a few words. "...and if he tied a good knot..." The act of tying the bank bag closed is trivial using 550 cord. Tying the bag to his harness or body sufficiently to survive exit and opening shock: damn near impossible. Unless he gutted the cord, and used it without the core lines, he would have a near impossible time tying a decent knot...and supporting the money bag at the same time. Imagine the gyrations of movement that bag would have gone through with the forces of exit and opening shock. Surviving the jump: very doable. Having the money bag intact with him at landing: very unlikely. Landing at some pre-determined point: at least as unlikely as the money bag staying attached to his body. There are at least a few thousand people frequenting DZ.com who could pull off this jump and walk away. But the issue of tying the money to the harness single-handedly would be equally difficult for an experienced jumper. This is a deja vu post. Fact is we dont know how he tied the bag (or briefcase also). Tina was not there to observe in the final minutes. He had a knife. He could have poked holes through the bag and secured the bag at two or more points ... we just dont know the facts except he did take steps and gave the matter some thought. He wasnt the complete idiot Himmelsbach would have you think.

Did you see the game tonight? More lopsided than I expected ... still a good game. Thoughts?

No deal finalized yet. I think I might hold out on this one and wait to see if there is an actual offer to make the movie. But mostly I would be checking for accuracy on the known facts, not so much writing the thing. Obvious question: Since you are lacking most of the "facts" how would you propose to do that? It's all in the "deal" isn't it. The question I have is: "Will the world sit on its thumbs while you dally with movie contracts, the world waiting for real Cooper news - or must it all come from you now? Or, will you be revising as the world turns ... relying on us to feed you the time of day? Here. Start with this. ....................................................... We pointed out in the book that it might not be impossible to save such a sum while filing returns of 20k or less each year, but when you compare that to KC's known spending habits, it was suspicious. The coin and stamp collection was valued at around $400,000 in 1994 dollars, although its high value was due in part to a natural gain in value over the years. There was also a car, a house, and two other pieces of land in KC's estate. Those were paid off by KC years before he died. Closing-of-account statement attached (savings) Glad to see this evolved into a more manageable form from its original (not sure of the word to use). First mutation? Ends up as a butterfly .... overcoming obstacles? Can pass the Joan Rivers Test ? ..........

Georger - while you are at that WHY don't you take the document the show presented (about the 180K plus) on the program and enlarge IT. You might be or might not be surprised what it says. Then track back from the date of that document and see what else you find in court documents. well... I 'spose I could do that but not sure what it would prove? only Robt has the background. I have so much else to do its a low priority fr me.... right now.

Vicki I have ALL of the photos you previously posted here. I can repost them for you in an appropriate size if you like .... but I need your permission first. Just say the word and I will do this later tonight. Like you Im headed out the door for some R&R but will check back in around 10:00pm Central. Or, somebody else can do it ... doesnt have to be me. Thanks. G.

It appears to me that Vicki's posting style and quiet "laid back" attitude hasn't really prompted much "sleuthing" from those who like to dig. If she is up for it then I suggest some of guys who really like digging (377 (aka Snowman's proxy), Georger etc turn the spotlight on that lead. My bets are that it is a dead-end street but from past experience when people start digging some really interesting stuff is churned up from old newspaper articles. For ease of access here is Farflungs list from some time ago. Yes. An interesting list. That was noted when she first presented. Thanks.

They probably didnt upoload because each was over 300 kb. Its frustrating but you will get it -
