School Obama's Daughters Attend Has 11 Armed Guards
Gravitymaster replied to rushmc's topic in Speakers Corner
Oh, what? No answer from a rich limosine liberal elite? How is this poor woman supposed to afford the insurance policy you proposed? Tell us how she pays for it. More government subsidies? Pretty poorly thought out solution, don't you think? -

You just want to impose draconian prices on poor people who need guns more than anyone else. Think about that poor single mother of 10, struggling to make it to the check cashing place and back home after cashing her welfare check. How is she going to afford insurance to own the gun she so desperately needs to protect her children and survive until the middle of the month? -
Opportunistic and pathetic would be what I call this

On Page 23 of the Jan '13 issue of PARACHUTIST is a photo with this caption (portion only): "Twenty months after a surgical error left him with restricted use of his lower body, Eastern Regional Director Randy Schroeder . . ." Do you think he should be allowed to sue the doctor(s), medical facility, etc because this 'surgical error?' The tort liability system is alive and well because IMO it works. JerryBaumchen PS) I have been sued a number of times; and I have sued a number of times. Do you think he should be able to collect $100 million? -
Same as what? Same as Congressmen, I'd be OK with that. School year IS too short. 3 months off in the summer is a throwback to when kids were expected to work the farms in the summer. Yup. If our kids want to compete in the future, we need to re-think our educational format. Longer school year, better merit pay for top performing teachers and 14 years to get a high school diploma. I'd also like to see sever cuts in pay for politicians so the money would not be a reason to serve. I think 30% would be a good reduction to start with. Lets also re-think the time period certain politicians and political appointees have to wait before they can accept employment from a company that contributed to a related campaign.

I don't normally give relationship advice but, I would sleep with his best friend and then tell him about it. Ask him how it feels and then tell him that's how you felt. Then tell him you are willing to give him one more chance. If he does this again, it's over for good.

Some of you may need to change your plans for 2013

I'll try not to die in 2013. -
Agreed. Point is, this was very likely pumped up by the lawyers because there was a fee to be earned.

Did the skiers sign a waiver? You know, like skydivers do. Non-sequitur. Nobody has claimed the Ski Slope Operator has any liability.
-
There is a lot of difference between gross negligence and "shit happens". A 7 year old who runs over you skis, causing you to fall while trying to avoid you after you cut in front of him falls into the latter catagory.
-
Read it again. It says the man turned in front of the 7 year old and he turned to avoid a collision. The man lost his balance and fell down. Now he's terrorizing the kid. I have known idiots like this. I once had someone try and run me down on my motorcycle because I was forced to cut them off to avoid a collision with another vehicle. Then the idiot filed a complaint for reckless driving against me and made a citizens arrest. He never showed up in court.

So, the janitor at my facility, who is probably making less than you if I had to guess, deserves a pay freeze indefinitely because "we are broke?" .5% isn't even enough to meet adjustment for inflation, but it's something. It's not a full adjustment for inflation, but it's nothing either. I think it's a good compromise for the federal worker bee who is just trying to get by like everybody else. If you're asking me personally if I get "we are broke," I do. I'd be willing to take a pay freeze or pay more taxes for as long as I need to to get us out of this hole. Does that mean every other federal employee has the means to be able to do the same? No. I'm married double income no children, so I have that luxury. Not everybody else who is federally employed does and they don't deserve to take the brunt. What part of that don't you understand? edit to add: I get your point, and I agree with you for the most part. What I have a problem with is your take that every single federal employee is in some bogus overpaid position that isn't really needed and is just fat that needs to be trimmed; like every federal employee is an overpaid waste of your tax dollars and it's putting us in the mess we're in. The point I'm trying to make is that it's not true for every single federal employee worker bee, but I'm sure there are areas in the federal arena that are pretty fat on the pay and/or staffing with people who may not do much and some positions can afford to be cut with more work among those left. So I agree with you there, just not as a blanket statement for every federal employee. I never said anything about federal employees being an over paid waste of my tax dollars. Where are you getting that from? I simply said we need to reduce our spending because we are broke. Our politicians have spent us into near bankruptcy by constantly minimizing what tax dollars are spent on. Well, I got news for you. A drop here and a drop there adds up over 40 or so years. The drips and drops have become a tidal wave. The only solution is to reverse the trend, not stay the course. We need negative government spending, not another .5% here and .7% there. Anyone who believes that is OK does not fully comprehend the situation.

I think you should read the waiver you sign at the DZ again as I don't think you understand it very well. You are only relieving the DZ of responsibility, not your fellow jumpers. I am for personal responsibility. I think when you choose to engage in a sport that carries certain risks, that you should have your own insurance policy in place and you should be prepared to cover your own expenses if you are injured, barring gross negligence. As soon as skydivers begin suing each other for freefall collisions, bad landings because they were cut off, etc. We will see an end to a sport we all love so much. If someone is not willing to accept the personal risks and responsibility, whether it is from skydiving, scuba diving, or downhill skiing, then don't participate. Find a better sport like bowling or tennis where the risks are lower.
-
Do you support skydivers suing each other? Skiing, like skydiving comes with certain risks. If you are unwilling to accept those risks then don't participate. If you are injured when there is no gross negligence, then suck it up and don't whine like a freakin' baby.

Agreed. Let's go to a 12 month school year instead. Keep teachers salaries the same.

Thanks to Democrats, milk prices could double.

So you would rather tax US Citizens than the Chinese. Glad you aren't running for political office. -

Oh, you mean the one Clinton and most of the Democrats supported? This one? http://millercenter.org/president/speeches/detail/3927 The US goods trade deficit with NAFTA was $94.6 billion in 2010, a 36.4% increase ($25 billion) over 2009. The US goods trade deficit with NAFTA accounted for 26.8% of the overall U.S. goods trade deficit in 2010. The US had a services trade surplus of $28.3 billion with NAFTA countries in 2009 (the latest data available). -

Do you know why farm subsidies exists? They exists to protect your market from the products coming from the 3rd world country producers. Just like a Chinese factory worker who is cheaper then an American one, a Chinese farmer will produce milk, corn, wheat, whatever cheaper then their American counter part. Without subsidies American farmers won't be able to compete with cheap 3rd world producers and they would eventually disappear. Then tax the imports. -

Gravitymaster replied to brenthutch's topic in Speakers Corner
More government subsidies we cannot afford. Let's get rid of these corporate welfare boondoggles. Let prices in the marketplace rise to whatever level they should be without manipulations. Perhaps if milk prices double, people will use less and the price will go back down. -
I think this says it all: Scumbags all the way from these type of lawsuits to self-serving politicians.
