g China doesn't even own much of the US debt. Mostly it is just owed to ourselves. I missed his speech. What was his economic plan, again?

Enough with the gun talk...lets talk about violence.

Yep, 1 in 12 on average will experience a violent or property theft crime. High enough average for me and mine to be armed and prepared. I think you might want to revisit the numbers. It's not 1 in 12. According to the report in the link it's more like 17 in 1000, less than 2%. Less than a quarter of what you've stated. Nothing to be concerned about, then. Unless you are one of the less than 2% -
Well, I suppose cns owns its blatant bias. Can't do math, huh? I can do math. I can also read. In this case their masthead. Try dividing the debt by the number of household. That's more productive than reading mastheads. Of course just reading mastheads is easier to be dismissive.

Which is more important -- my rights, or your safety?
Gravitymaster replied to wmw999's topic in Speakers Corner
As a non-American that was something I have been wondering about - my question being is that not what the 9th Amendment is for? My thinking is the right to travel freely must be one of the lynchpins of a free society, in the modern world cars are the primary means of transport, therefore driving (as you say, subject to reasonable licencing) should be viewed as a right. You should come to texas. If you dont have a car here you'll be walking for quite some time. Of course, the downside to that is having to be surrounded by Texans. Yeah, or the thugs in Chicago. -
Better watch what you ask for, you may just get it. Republicans tend to be well armed. Liberals....not so much as many are gun-o-phobes. I hope you wouldn't attack and murder me with your gun because you disagree with the way some people are supposedly running things. But then again that is my worry. Im more a "get-murdered-o-phobe" than a gun-o-phobe. Im sure you would argue I just need to get well armed to fight off the crazies when they come, but I disagree. I would have to vote for you to be one of the guys "not allowed" to have big boy toys. Well, you can rest assured that I have never pointed a gun at at anyone. If I ever did, it would be with the intent of pulling the trigger.

Guns and Ammo have an agenda, as I said. Hopefully you're able to recognize that they do not represent gun owners nor even the NRA. -
Answered many times. Now answer mine.

Right, and we all know that marketing people don't make up terms to sell products. I would classify a fully automatic weapon as a "military style assault weapon". Because the term itself is indicative of a non-defensive weapon. I would not describe a semi-automatic weapon as an "assault weapon" because it is more of a defensive weapon. The two weapons are not the same. Those who lump them together are either displaying gross ignorance or thy have an agenda. Either way, they are wrong. -
How do we keep insane people from owning guns?

In the times we live in, we have home invasions, threats of gangs, whackos looking to wipe-out large groups of people, personal assaults, in the part of the country I live in, drug runners who are armed and so-on. I believe, the 2nd. amendment covers these areas. We have the right to protect ourselves. We just have to do it responsibly, like all other rights. Chuck So, Chuck.....when is your appointment with the government psychologist who will determine if you are mentally fit to own a gun? -

Semantic BS. Nope, he is correct, there is no such thing as a Gun Show "Loophole". It is you who is incapable of calling it what it really is. As incorrect as the semi-automatic weapons you call "assault weapons". Do I call them "assault weapons"? There IS a loophole in the law requiring background checks on gun purchasers. It exists in 33 states, and is most apparent at gunshows. Denying that it exists is just playing a semantic game to conceal your lame position on this. And now we have YET ANOTHER mass shooting by someone who clearly should not have ever been given access to a gun. Its plainly obvious to most of us you are being spun and you can't see it. If you want to stay with that, be my guest. -

Then call is a private sale loophole if you want to be more accurate and pretend you aren't being spun. How is the data for this mythical, left wing wet dream database going to be collected? How is the "psychological profile" going to be compiled? Hmmmm......????? -

The Doctor is - IN - 5 cents, please. Ya, let's send an army of psychologists out to the homes of existing gun owners for a mental evaluation to see if they are mentally fit to own a gun. I'm sure we will all eventually get used to living in the fascist state the liberals want to create. It will all be worth it if it saves just one child.
-
I wouldn'd bother correcting them. They will always search for one remote example and then try and claim it's the norm. Pretty standard SC stuff.
-
Yes, the answer to reducing gun violence is instant mental health checks. We could accomplish this by requiring gun dealers to have a full time psychologist in the gun store to give an instant mental health evaluation. If it saves just one child, it's worth it.
-
Obviously he said this after contracting Alzheimer's. at least that's what left wingers always claim when trash talking Reagan.
-
Can I assume you haven't downloaded the game?
-
I think all of the above. People are definitely influenced by movies particularly and children are influenced by all.
-
Apples and Oranges. Requiring someone to go through some government mandated gun training program will do little to address the problem of mass homicides any more than a driver training course for automobiles. Do you really envision someone being required to sit down and have several sessions with a psychologist before being "allowed to own a gun? Seriously??? Driver training for an automobile is necessary because there is far more likelyhood that a person could accidently lose control of their car on ice or snow, not leave the proper distance to stop etc. I have not heard of a huge problem with someone accidentally going on a mass shooting spree.

Actually road carnage HAS been reduced significantly due to stricter vehicle safety laws. Yes but we can do better. Lets mandate a redesign of brakes. This can be accomplished for just an additional $5000 per vehicle. I think it's worth it if it saves just one life. A better use of the money would be to reinstitute research on gun violence, which has been hamstrung at the NRA's insistence for well over a decade. (I wonder why the NRA wanted to gag research on this topic ) Typical academic response. We know what the problem is and we know what needs to be done to solve it. What we don't need is another research project that politicians will try and influence the outcome of, or simply spike the recommendations. We also don't need more stupid, feel good laws that do nothing more than attack the rights of law abiding citizens.
