Why do you say I'm attempting to avoid paying for it? I said we needed to pay for National Defense. See where you quoted me below. >You know since you don't mind supporting the economy and all. Did > you return you tax rebate last year? Yes, but that was minus your tax rebate. >I don't have a problem paying taxes for National Defense, roads etc. > What pisses me off is the BS about Social Security "lock boxes" etc. > Plus all the hidden taxes people don't even realize they are paying > like gasoline, corporate taxes, energy taxes, import taxes etc. Agree 100%. >I do find it amusing that you actually think you only pay 45% of you > income in taxes. When government taxes businesses, do you > actually think the business pays the tax? No, they simply increase > prices to cover the additional cost of doing business. Agreed Why don't we start with a little honesty about what we pay and what it's spent on first. >I'm for a minimum tax that everyone would pay every year. Then a > flat tax based on income and eliminating all tax deductions >including mortgage interest, business expenses and IRA > contributions. This would bring more honesty into our system of > taxation and eliminate the huge tax subsidies. Which is why some sort of national sales tax combined with a flatter income tax is probably the best solution. I'm for phasing out SS. I think we need to do this over time so elderly people who were forced into this over their lifetimes can reap the benefits they were promised. I'm for individual retirement accounts for those who want to establish them and I don't think there should be a minimum or maximum contribution. I'm for eliminating all deductions, tax shelters, business taxes, payroll taxes. I'm for eliminating the IRS. Do I think this will ever happen? No, but I can wish can't I?

Why do Kallends work for him? He posted it, he should back it up or retract it.

Note to self: Send Howard Dean a check so he can continue his campaign.

Just one more reason I will NEVER, EVER vote for a Democrat. This is apparently the best they have to offer. Of course there's always "The Perfumed Prince"

Thats great, Bill. Have you considered paying MORE in taxes than you have to? You know since you don't mind supporting the economy and all. Did you return you tax rebate last year? I don't have a problem paying taxes for National Defense, roads etc. What pisses me off is the BS about Social Security "lock boxes" etc. Plus all the hidden taxes people don't even realize they are paying like gasoline, corporate taxes, energy taxes, import taxes etc. I do find it amusing that you actually think you only pay 45% of you income in taxes. When government taxes businesses, do you actually think the business pays the tax? No, they simply increase prices to cover the additional cost of doing business. So when you lefties harp about how we need to raise tax on businesses or on the wealthy, all you are advocating is paying more for a product or service or destroying the amount of a raise you might have recieved. I'm for a minimum tax that everyone would pay every year. Then a flat tax based on income and eliminating all tax deductions including mortgage interest, business expenses and IRA contributions. This would bring more honesty into our system of taxation and eliminate the huge tax subsidies.

What do you expect? It's almost impossible to transcribe exactly what someone who's totally inarticulate says. Different translators will report it in different ways. Weak, Kallend, very weak

Bagle computer virus unleashed Computer users are being warned about a new virus which has spread at "an alarming rate". Internet security firm MessageLabs says it has detected more than 70,000 copies of the W32/Bagle-mm virus in the past 24 hours. The computer virus, or worm, is contained in infected emails as an attachment. The aim of the worm is to spread further by looking for new email addresses in the infected computer, such as in the user's list of contacts. Experts at MessageLabs say it appears the worm is also programmed to send details about all infected computers to website addresses in Germany, though the sites do not yet appear to be up and running. Paul Wood, chief information security analyst at the firm, said: "We have seen over 73,000 copies of Bagle, and this number is rising at an alarming rate." Infected emails include a file attachment ending .exe and the word "hi" in the subject line. The message contains the word "test" followed by the symbol =). Analysis shows the worm has a cut-off date of January 28, a ploy used by hackers in the past to avoid detection. The advice to users is to ensure they update their anti-virus software on a regular basis.

I can assure you when someone with a high income gets better access, it isn't because he pays more "taxes" Perhaps it's because he may have something more important to say. And yes it is a metaphor.
-
Why aren't we? You might be surprised at the financially sound people I know who don't flaunt their wealth. They live in middle class neighborhoods, drive mid-priced automobiles and from all outwardly appearances are just average wage earners. I think you are stereotyping people based on envy. You have lost me here Kallend. When I phone my Congressman, I am usually able to get through. Both my Senators too. Nobody is saying a homeless person would have the same access, however I doubt the reason is entirely that he pays less taxes.

I totally disagree with your tax plan. Why should someone in a higher income bracket pay a higher percentage of taxes than someone in a lower income bracket? If I make hypothetically-$200,000 per year and I am assesed 20%, I'm paying $40,000 per year in taxes. If someone makes $40,000. per year and is assesed the same rate, they only pay $8,000 in taxes. If I make $200,000 per year and someone else makes $40,000. by your logic, if we both are shopping for the same automobile, I should pay 5 times more for it. So I am being "punished" for being more successful and the lower income person is being subsidized for being less successful. This is just one reason why I will NEVER vote for a Democrat. You guys just don't make sense. Edited to add: If anyone from the IRS is reading this, I'm just kidding. I really only make $15,000 per year. Honestly, check my tax return.

Which non-citizens don't pay taxes? The only ones I can think of are illegals, and even they pay sales and other use taxes at minimum. Haven't spent much time in the "real world" of business, eh?
-
I agree we need a revamp of our current tax laws. I'm really pissed the discussions about reforming them we were having in 1994-1996 have faded into oblivion. I think all Americans and even non-citizens should be taxed if they are deriving benefits from America. I include in this that the poor should also pay taxes. I think one of the reasons we have some of the social problems we do is because people don't feel "involved" in America. The non-involvement fosters resentment and hostility towards "the system". If everyone in America had to write a check every month to pay their taxes, like I do, peoples view of taxation and how oppresive it really is, would change quickly and dramatically. People would then start to understand why some of us seek out tax shelters and attempt to legally avoid paying taxes. I can tell you I employ a "Forensic CPA" so I can stay right on the borderline of legalities. If you've ever had problems with the IRS, you would understand how nightmarish the tax code in this country really is and my guess is you would have a more empathetic attitude towards businesses that walk the borderline regarding taxes and would feel the way many of us who have worked towards tax reform do. Believe me, it's one thing to only have to file personal income taxes and deal with an IRA and other investments. It's quite another to operate a business. Not complaining because if it was much worse, I'd just walk away from it and go to work for someone else, but to me, thats the worst possible senario.

Mad enough to vote them out of office? To be perfectly honest with you Quade, I wish there was another "Republican Candidate". I was a Steve Forbes supporter originally but unfortunately the Presidential Elections process these days is more of a popularity contest than one based on substance. I can assure you, however it will be a VERY Cold Day in Hell before I will vote for a Democrat, especially these buffons running in 2004.

I believe the proposal put forward by Phil Graham would allow an exemption for the poor. I don't recall exactly what the income level was, but I was a supporter of his plan.

I'm not going to get into a long protracted economics arguement. Suffice it to say that if spending isn't decreased, the effects of a tax cut are nullified. And for your information, I'm mad as hell at GWB, AND CONGRESS for this drunken spending binge they've been on for the last 10-15 years.

And once I hire those people, they will be paying income taxes, sales taxes and spending their money at other businesses that will then need to hire more people to keep up with increased sales. Of course Bush could have just pissed the money away on a Liberal Utopian Social Transgression (LUST) instead.

Geez Quade, it happens quite often on DZ.Com. If you haven't ever made the comparison, then obviously I wasn't refering to you.

Just a little humor for those lefties who are always comparing Bush to a monkey. Jan 19, 7:38 AM (ET) SINGAPORE (AP) - People in strait-laced Singapore were urged Monday to act like monkeys - the Chinese zodiac sign for the coming Lunar year - for the sake of their country. Singaporeans could foster an economic recovery this year by behaving more like monkeys, Deputy Prime Minister Tony Tan said in a Lunar New Year message reported in The Straits Times newspaper. Chinese communities around the world will herald the start of the Year of the Monkey on Thursday. Chinese believe the monkey is clever, flexible, innovative and confident, but can also be selfish, jealous and vain. "Be like a monkey. When things happen, you have to be nimble. Take advantage of opportunities, don't be cast down, but rise to the challenge if it does occur," Tan was quoted as saying. Tan urged Singaporeans not to be daunted by the challenges of helping the city-state recover from its worst economic downturn. The SARS outbreak, the Iraq war and slumps in global manufacturing and air travel hit Singapore hard in 2003. Singapore's economy grew 0.8 percent last year, but unemployment sits at a 17-year high of 5.9 percent. Last year, in the Year of the Sheep - known in Singapore as the Year of the Goat - Prime Minister Goh Chok Tung issued a similar animal-themed call to arms when faced with "an imminent war in Iraq." "In the year of the Goat, we must try to be like the mountain goat, sure-footed and hardy and able to move safely in a rocky environment," Goh said.

Nor do the Bush Hating Lefties: GALLUP NEWS SERVICE Despite the "jobless" nature of the current economic recovery, the first CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll of 2004, conducted Jan. 2-5, shows consumer optimism continuing to surge upward: Consumer perceptions of the current economy are at their highest point in more than two years; Consumer expectations for the future are at a four-year high; and Nearly three out of four consumers say they are somewhat or very optimistic about the economy. I guess that explains the 1000 new jobs created in the previous month A basic course in economics will teach you it takes a while into an economic recovery before business's start to hire more people. Of course it's a good thing Bush reduced the tax burden on wealthy business people so they could start to expand their companies which will eventually create the need for more employees. I know I plan on hiring more people this Spring.
