Not to get off the subject, but if someone's body temp gets low enough, you must use an external heat source to bring them back. Sticking a cold body into a sleeping bag doesn't work. It's like sticking a bag of ice in there. sleeping bag doesn't work for a too cold body. When I went to Arctic Survival school in AK, we were taught to get naked (no, I wasn't in the Navy), with the hypo individual, body to body, and warm them. Putting their extremities into either your belly or under arm....... Buck

ok, ok, ok...my turn, my turn: The guy that taught me to fly jumpers, was coming down from a load, saw his whuffo friends at the lake (DZ was between the lakes), getting in their boat to go fishing. He drops down, just above the water, (they didn't see him till last second), and makes all of them JUMP out of the boat!! (Late 70's) Problem: park rangers got the N-number -- lost his license for 6 months! Ok, another: In mid-80's, I did the same thing to my friends! (same DZ, same lake!) ok, they didn't jump out but it was cool anyways....... Last one: Our DZO used to love buzz jobs. So, me and the other pilots happily obliged...However, after my 4th buzz job (...of the day) the DZO asked me to stop. I was thrown off the DZ by the DZO after my 5th buzz job of the day.....(I never learn) ok, I'm done I raise my glass to the good ole days!

DO NOT use medical grade oxygen for flight....... 100% Aviators Oxygen is what to use. It has a very low, almost no moisture content and reduces the chance of oxygen component failure due to cold temps.

Everyone's response so far is right on target. Bill is right about an altitude chamber course. Go to www.faa.gov, scroll around until you find "cami" and they'll have information regarding scheduling at a nearby Air Force base. For Utah, closest is either Beale AFB outside of Sacramento, Peterson AFB, in Colorado and Hollomon AFB in Alamagordo, NM. It only cost $50. If you come down to Houston, I'll put you "or anybody else" thru our course for free.........if you have at least a Class III or better physical.... Buck

Love to answer your question.... I definitely think our intel people let him down. If our intelligence budget wouldn't have been so drastically cut during the last presidents reign, we might have taken a different tactic against SH this time around... However, I'm very proud that once his mind was made up, we committed. I mean, SH is a cold blooded, murdering bastard. Killed hundreds of thousands of his own people. How long should someone/some governments stand around before acting against the Hitler of our day??? The European community wasn't doing much, the Arab community was sitting on their asses waiting for somebody else to take care of them. Saudi would be a nice, rather large and profitable asset of Iraq if the coalition wouldn't have went against them in GWI. So, yes......I'm damn proud of him. Finally we got a straight shooter for our president..... Thank you, have a great day, Buck

There's been a post here regarding flying/jumping with congestion. Best advice, when in doubt, don't jump. Considering physiology is my area of expertise, if you'd like more info, ask away. Buck

How many civilian Chopper Pilots do we have in the house?
Beerlight replied to Viking's topic in The Bonfire
Only prob is no one will hire you unless you've got the hours. You can probably find a flight instructor job after you get at least 200 but more like 300 hours....(you hope). For commercial flying, most operators (ie. offshore, EMS etc.) require a minimum of 1200 hours total time. Some of that can be fixed wing, but just depends on the company who will accept it. Petroleum Helicopters (PHI) and Air Log have (for now) the lowest hiring minimums, 1000 hours required. $$$$$$ Best route ARMY, or get your CFI, pay your dues instructing then apply with an Offshore outfit.......several to choose from and they are currently HURTING for helo pilots. Start pay is getting better for helo drivers, but NEVER will it match a fixed-wing airline job. -
What type of aviation class, Paige?
