  1. Ha! So funny you! But, this thread will never take off unless I start some bullshit political statement !!!!
  2. Does cold weather and football make you horny?!! It is just one of those nights. Help me drink damnit!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Go Panthers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  3. People..people...people....... It is extremely important to never, repeat never jump or even fly when your sinuses/ears are congested. Normal pressure exchange can be compromised, and can seriously damage your sinuses/ears. A small problem can turn into a dangerous problem (major sinus or ear block), and absolutely blow out or perforate your eardrum. As Heather mentioned above, during that ride to altitude, the small pocket of air in the middle ear will expand (Boyles Law) and naturally escape (or not because of congestion) thru the Eustachian tube. On descent the reverse is true, you will have to equalize that pressure by blowing air back thru the eustachian tube (Valsalva Manuever). If you have a bunch of muscus and push that back up into the sinuses or middle ear, you are setting yourself up for a NASTY ear or sinus infection. Bacteria LOVE the warm, moist environment of the muscus lined sinuses or the middle ear, and eventually a sinus/ear infection develops. Keep jumping with that problem and you can lose or damage your hearing........ Just do a google search for "problems with flying with a cold", and you'll get your answer. Probably the one you didn't want. I work at an altitude chamber unit, and have for the past 22 years. Think I qualify for giving advice in this area. Sorry for the long post.
  4. Different/less restrictive security requirements for them.
  5. Again, he is the President. TFR's everywhere he or might I add, EVERY OTHER PRESIDENT has had. Maybe pre-911 the POTUS did not have such an extensive TFR umbrella surrounding his plane, however guess you can imagine the security risk/restrictions post-911. Right? Trust me, George Jr "is not" making the rules regarding his own security. That's out of his hands and in the hands of the Secret Service. So, blame them, not him. Just an observation, and not to be construed as a political statement. Don't you dislike (hate is such a strong word) all these political bullshit threads on the forums.
  6. I can't even believe you started this..........
  7. I very much enjoyed your post. I remember in the early 80's when I started jump plane flying (C-182) the only altitude you'd get was 7,500, then a couple years later went to 8,500 and finally by 97' (end of my jump plane flying) the standard altitude was 10.5. FreeFly, what's that?.......all RW baby........ But there's a lot to be said for the major improvements in gear now, and better maintained jumpplanes (most DZ's).......Oh, I still drink, just have to go to bed earlier
  8. Send some warmth to Texas dude, I'm freezin my ass off It didn't even get over 60 today.
  9. Took em 15 minutes to get down from 2100 meters? Must be a misprint.
  10. Different companies allow a different max, eh?
  11. Typical Texas, it's supposed to start raining tomorrow all the way through Sat. But, Sunday is looks promising. But, it was 80F this past Sat...!! So, how's your accomodations there in Huntsville?
  12. Man, just bustin on ya....sorry............. I was just drinking a very cold Shiner and thought, what the hell, let's have some fun! As for Pickering, I don't know him but have met his son, Chip who is extremely nice and capable. Maybe he fell further from the tree.....
  13. Nope dude, you got your facts all wrong....what, you must have cut/paste off of yahoo or something....
  14. Where's all this "blue sky" you are referring too!????? Send some my way, would ya please.
  15. And for physiological training cost. ie. altitude chamber. It's available at quite a few Air Force base and some Navy installations for a small fee, these days $50. It includes about 6 hours of academics followed by an altitude chamber flight to 25,000 feet. The FAA in Oklahoma City and NASA at JSC, Houston, TX (where I work) offer the course for FREE..........!! If you go to www.FAA.gov, look for "physiological training", it will route you to a ph#, and POC for setting up the training............... Buck P.S. Not sure where your located, but he you wish to have the training conducted at NASA, Houston then send me a PM, I'll fix ya up.......Oh, and you need a current FAA flight physical to go thru the chamber.....
  16. Have you been out to the DZ? Spaceland not to far from where your living.......Oh, and those aren't crickets dude, it's monster cockroaches!
  17. How deep to get to 10 psi? That would be more liveable...
  18. Regards to the first, I'm not in debt. And, the Chinese "have" a space program? Seriously though, somebody's gotta lead.........
  19. Seems reasonable. Rick, I totally agree. Ha! Ha! What up bro?!!!
  20. Chances are, you come into contact with items/products on an everyday basis that were invented by NASA or a NASA contractor. I mean everyday, getting through the day items.... Things that make life easier. And to think, it all started back in the 60's with a President directing us to go to the moon. So, I believe we will once again be on the receiving end of some awesome products and materials that will come directly from R & D geared toward the new Moon/Mars mission. Plus, I need the work...!!!!!!!!!
  21. Nah, just started about two months ago after retiring from the AF. You used to be a diver at the NBL? Buck
  22. Ah, don't worry, that's why an OTTER has TWO engines..... DOOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
