I don't understand why Bush wont support Stem Cell Research!
PLFXpert replied to goofyjumper's topic in Speakers Corner
Right. But, how are military & war funding related to funding of stem cell research? Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back. -

But...but...but there's a difference in federally funding a war and federally funding stem cell research. When someone compares them, says "instead of" or whatever makes no sense. Once again, I support stem cell research including embryonic stem cell research--just not federal funding of it. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back. -

I completely mispoke. My point is this thread is about whether or not stem cell research should be federally funded. When people compare that to federal funding of the war, it's not comparable. War SHOULD be federally funded. Let's continue to pressure Congress to decrease the funding if we are no longer in agreement with/never were in agreement with the war. (Edit: Obviously we need to fund it enough that our troops' gradual & safe return is not compromised.) What I'm hearing from some is "If stem cell research should be privately funded, then so should the war." or conversely, "If the war is federally funded, then stem cell research should be, too." That makes NO sense to me. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back. -

Interesting theory. Let's fund the military only when we feel like it. "What? We're on red alert? I better go fund the military today." Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back. -

I won't go. It'd be easier, I know. I can't feel a thing from my head down to my toes. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.

I think it was one of the Aussies. It was good. There have been some good ones this season. I especially liked the one who flew on Emirates Airlines. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.

on Last Comic Standing. I'm a terrible joke-teller, though. And I don't even think many will get it. Plus, it's probably better told in person. I wanted to post it in the appropriate thread, but I see said thread has been locked. Wait, what was I talking about? Oh... OK. OK. Stop me if you've heard it: "So I'm riding the subway the other day and I see an advertisement that reads 'You wouldn't steal a cell phone. You wouldn't steal a car....' You guys have seen the sign, right? Of course I wouldn't steal a cell phone. No way I would steal a car. But, if my buddy came home from the dealership driving a shiny new sport's car and said, 'Hey! Nice huh? You want me to burn you a copy?' I thought, 'Yea! That I might consider.'" Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.

I never did mind a little vulgarity. It's banality that's a real pisser. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.

I just wanted to jump on the bandwagon. I wonder what our next catch phrase will be that everyone posts to death? I can hardly stand the suspense; it's so exciting! Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.

I swore I would always have a manual. But, damn if Sequoia's don't have that option. I do LOVE manual. Incidentally, I have only received one speeding ticket in my Sequoia. Only pulled over once, too--compared to a total of 28 times pulled over and 8 tickets in my previous manuals. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back. -
I eat cow/filet once, maybe twice a year. (Yes, I know a true "steak lover" doesn't go for filet. Good thing I'm not one of those.) When I do, I like it medium-rare. And I like it from Ruth's Chris. And I like it cut in half to be shared with Billy who grudgingly enjoys only half a steak. He loves me.

How is military funding in any way comparable to federal funding for almost anything else? I didn't agree with us going into Iraq. I don't understand the logic, though, of "OK, I don't agree with Iraq so if given the choice today, take my money away from our troops and our military and when they run out of funds, they'll have to come home." I'm generally in favor of private funding rather than federal funding regardless of whether the "something to be funded" is something I fully support. In this case, I don't support the war but absolutely believe it, our military, our troops & everything in between should be federally funded. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back. -
Not at all. I asked if you're familiar with how unadopted children grow up. Basically your answer to each of my questions is: No. No. And No. I rest my case. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.

You don't understand why someone who is pro-life wouldn't support federal funding for embryonic stem cell research? I don't get it. I'm pro-choice. Thank goodness if I so desire I can help fund the research. -
Oy vey. I don't even know where to begin. Absorption, immigrants, Democrats (who's a Democrat?)... I'll stick to this: Wait, so the one million/year would have all be adopted? Are you familiar with adoption rates? How familiar are you with how unadopted children grow up? Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.

One of my favorite songs has always been "Lola" by the Kinks. And of course, I loved "Whatever Lola Wants" and "Copacabana". I even named my Sunfire "Lola" and then when I traded her in & bought my Sequoia, naturally I named her "Big Lola". It didn't occur to me until recently the Kinks song that started it all was about a transvestite. Oh well. It's still a favorite of mine. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.

OK, so hypothetically, we implement your plan... Then what? You mentioned earlier "There are 40 million dead babies..." What happens to the millions we've now "saved" in your plan? Are there millions of families waiting to adopt them? Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.

I admit, this is a first for me. It's a little strange, but I'm not really bothered by it. And where my recycle bin is placed on recyle day is technically city property--the whole three feet from the street thing. I'd probably have never known if it weren't for a recent change in our waste management and our recycle man must have been confused this week, as he did not come to pick up our street on the new recycle day. So the bin stayed out (we have a backup, as mine is ALWAYS overflowing), but each morning on my way out to Starbucks, I'd drop whatever recycles we had from the day before in the bin on the curb. And I noticed the cans from the day before I'd dropped were no longer there. So just for shits & giggles I purposefully put a few more cans out just to see if they, too, would disappear. And they did! It's weirdly amusing to me. We don't really have vagrants in my area, but there is this cute 'lil guy who rides around on his bicycle with three red wagons trailing behind full of cans. I'm not upset, just observant. It seems someone takes the empty beer & soda cans from the recycle bins placed on our street on recycle day before the recycle man has arrived. No harm, no foul. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
