How DARE you say age matters.

Not only have I seen it happen, I had to wash my jumpsuit afterward. Nasty! Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.

I never heard this one before--then again I delete most forwards w/out reading them. This one came from my manager today, so I had to read it.

After Katrina, Billy and I ransacked the house for goods that might be of service to donate, & also wrote lump sum checks to various organizations. Perhaps I should have asked for a sticker that read "I donated", but that would have ruined the fun of seeing the pissed off looks on cashier's faces everywhere, everytime I declined to have them ring me up for an extra dollar to donate to the Katrina victims. My only stipulations were stick, brand new & under budget. I was the very-proud owner of a purple Geo Metro as my first car. My BMW & Lexus-driving friends quickly named it "The Barney Mobile". Kelel, my father skipped the parking lot and had me drive straight from home onto the highway. I made sure to annoy the hell out of every car behind me at a stoplight on the way there. I think the added pressure of fingers flicking me off and horns blasting really did the trick. Parking lots are SO forgiving. Similarly, if it weren't for taxiways it probably would have taken me a lot longer to learn to land from a skydive on my feet. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.

B/c they're obvious. When I'm pretty buzzed, most people that don't know me otherwise, would likely not guess I'd even had a sip to drink. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.

Often when I post in SC it's after having had at least one glass of wine. I come to my senses half-way through my second and stop posting. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.

This one's not so good, Walt. I like your first question better. I had friends that made awesome money waitressing. I did it for a total of three months in my entire life--my only restaurant experience. Alas, I discovered, I'm not really one that likes to cater to people. I got "yelled at" (except he was laughing too hard) by my manager for telling a completely unreasonable-about-everything-under-the-sun woman who also happened to find a ladybug in her salad she should be grateful for the luck that was just bestowed upon her. It wasn't even what I might have said had I not been trying to be polite. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.

Are degreed women less likely to be drama queens?
PLFXpert replied to waltappel's topic in The Bonfire
I would have LOVED to research & write a paper on this if I'd only had the idea in college. My first thought would be...yes? I might question if it's the degree or the profession. Some professions (& office spaces) beg for drama. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back. -
He looks like a happy dog!

We've only had to use it twice. When we first got Cruz he was terrified of a thunderstorm. I've grown up with animals. I know the difference b/w wanting to lay near you or hide under the bed & having a full-on anxiety attack. I was more terrified watching him, I'm sure! Panting like he'd just ran a marathon, drool dripping down, trembling as if he were being shaken violently from behind and repeatedly adjusting himself next to me as if he could get any closer. He was abused in some way before we got him--we don't know how or to what extent, but obviously my guess is he was left outside in a storm or two in addition to whatever else. But, now he does well. He likes it better when the TV is on during a storm and he'll just lay a little closer. But for those first couple storms, I agree! Thank GOODNESS for the doggie xanax.

I don't understand why Bush wont support Stem Cell Research!
PLFXpert replied to goofyjumper's topic in Speakers Corner
No disagreement, we could cut some costs in defense. What else would you cut? Rhetorical question & diversion from the topic. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back. -

PLFXpert replied to goofyjumper's topic in Speakers Corner
One thing we do agree on is get our troops the hell outta dodge and of course, the secondary benefit to that is a huge financial savings. It's a win/win. I love those. It's certainly easier to go with the win/win first, no doubt. I don't want to digress too much from the topic, nor do I really want to dive into federal spending and where & how much we pay for things that, imo, are crazy to be spending (& make the war spending almost look puny by comparison). When we talk about all that, stem cell research is quite a non-issue. Makes more sense to me (and imo more progress would be made) to fund it privately. But then, I think a LOT more things should be funded privately and certainly federal funding of stem cell research would be the LEAST of my worries when it comes to federal spending. I'm just here for the hell of it. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back. -

For the last time: I said (look back) I support federal funding of war. *I have to run now folks--not ignoring further responses. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back. -

?? Uh, no I didn't. I compared it to what we've spent on other things. One might assume (perhaps I should have said) I was speaking over the same time frame. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back. -

Isn't that part of the problem? The entire 18% for defense in 2007 is not going to the Iraq war. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back. -

PLFXpert replied to goofyjumper's topic in Speakers Corner
Oy vey. Who supports continuing the war? What I said was I support federal funding of war. I support bringing our troops home. I support pressuring Congress to tighten the purse strings to help make this happen. To the second part: You're misunderstanding private vs. federal funding. Oh, and it's just a big, huge fallacy. You presume WAY too much about anyone in particular--let's say me--for the simple fact one generally supports private funding instead of federal. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back. -

Isn't half a trillion dollars chump change compared to what we're spending elsewhere that maybe we don't need to be spending? Not even talking about social programs. Not exactly relative to such things I'm referring, but it just made me think of one of my favorite movies, Dave. You know where Dave feeds his buddy Murray his favorite--bratwurst--and they go over the budget? Funniest part: "If I ran my business this way, I'd be out of business." If less were funded federally there'd be even more private money to contribute, and less limitations and all that. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back. -

PLFXpert replied to goofyjumper's topic in Speakers Corner
Not a libertarian, but happy to know someone doesn't think terribly of me. More importantly: I fail to see how private funding for his research makes finding a cure any more or less likely. Furthermore, more money might even potentially be spent toward his research funded privately than federally. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back. -
I don't understand why Bush wont support Stem Cell Research!
PLFXpert replied to goofyjumper's topic in Speakers Corner
Obviously. Perhaps I should have been more specific: I support stem cell research, but do not support federal funding of it. How does that make me more or less moral than he who supports the research for the same reasons as I do, but WOULD support federal funding for it. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back. -
I don't understand why Bush wont support Stem Cell Research!
PLFXpert replied to goofyjumper's topic in Speakers Corner
Absolutely. But not everyone who votes for or against federal funding is voting based on what they would personally fund... Of course it does. Certainly pro-lifers aren't going to contribute to embryonic stem cell research. But, most definitely some pro-choicers (me) would not support federal funding of it. There's no question it would. But, while there are some exceptions, what some might want to see a few mill federally funded to is not at all related to federal funding of war. Though many want funds decreased to this particular war, few would want war privately funded. The ratios aren't nearly so overwhelming for those who would federally fund or not federally fund "other stuff". Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back. -

Also: >1) Morality. If two people have the same goal, but different ideas about how to get there. What makes one less "moral" than the other? Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back. -
I don't understand why Bush wont support Stem Cell Research!
PLFXpert replied to goofyjumper's topic in Speakers Corner
I disagree. >1) Morality. Federal funding does not equate one's position on supporting or not supporting the something-to-be-funded. >2) Funding. Agreed--lotta money spent on the war. The government does not have unlimited funds. Disagree if we never went to war, we'd have spent half a trillion dollars on something else instead, like stem cell research. Disagree we SHOULD spend half a trillion dollars on something else, like stem cell research, just b/c we have it to spend b/c we didn't spend it on a war. I don't understand why Bush wont support Stem Cell Research!
PLFXpert replied to goofyjumper's topic in Speakers Corner
Confusion. Federal funding = one supports the cause. Private funding = one does not support the cause. Reality: I did NOT support us going to Iraq. I DO support federal funding of war. I DO support stem cell research. I do NOT support federal funding of it. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.
