I just want to know if he swerved to avoid a squirrel. I swerve for squirrels. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.

So what did you see?

And it has coffee!!! Hey Jane. Get me off this crazy thing... Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.

I found "this Scotty" a very humorous addition, but probably not what I pictured a younger Scotty to be by any stretch. With that said, the actor was great for what they seemed to be going for. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.

Yes! We had a theater like that--only one my father went to. Awesome pizza and IBC root beer floats! Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.

Haven't read this thread yet, but just saw it... I received it Tuesday from Netflix but put it off. I am a trekkie-by-proxy. I have seen most of the series as a young child and all of the original movies at least a half-a-dozen times. I had read fantastic reviews--about how it was amazing for both fans and those who have never seen any variation of Star Trek before. I didn't buy it. While I do not think it would have been half as enjoyable if I did not know the history--regardless--, I LOVED it! Oh my gosh! Great storyline, and a wonderful tribute. I was particularly astonished at the authenticity of the original characters' mannerisms and the same-sort-of camera angles/production. Really refreshing!

Given his stated history, I would not venture to say "obscure" is what he would be in to. OTOH, maybe obscurity is just what he needs to be turned to the dark side of amazing movie watching. There are several fantastic movies* I would have loved to start a thread about, but due to their content would be against forum rules. I started one once that really should not have been deleted in that the "act in question" was not the theme of the movie. Edit: *Example (not the thread-movie deleted): Hounddog gets 5/5 stars from me. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.

Didn't see Wall-E. The Incredibles was decent (not on the level of Nemo. Finding Nemo for me is the best medicine for sad, sick, lazy and all other things bad that need to be moved past.) Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.

Most of the time, yes. (We are only talking about G, PG-rated animated films, right?) I love a good story, too. I did not think Up was feel-good at all as far as "love stories" go. I would discuss in more detail, but do not want to spoil for those who might be interested in seeing it (or forced to by their children. ) Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.

Definitely in my Top 30!

While I have not seen Big Fish, I would have to adamantly disagree with your review of the other two. We watched Up last Tuesday (Netflix is AWESOME at DVDs arriving in my mailbox the day they are released). The only funny parts were Doug-related (cone of shame! ). The beginning was SO slow. Finding Nemo, Shark's Tale, Shrek--these are awesome animated films. Up made me feel so bad for that make-a-wish kid that got to see it before it had been given the final touches/was complete. So you need a good movie that has been out for a long time and is likely to actually be in stock/available. Have you seen Forest Gump? or As Good as it Gets? They are both on my all-time favorite list. I will start with those (can't believe anyone hasn't seen either of them, but taking a chance you might be the first I have actually come across. ) If you both have seen those, I can suggest others in the mainstream--but awesome--genre. If you are looking for something a little less mainstream--but still a widely-praised flick--definitely get Little Miss Sunshine (also one of my all-time favorites). I am assuming you are inquiring about what you might find in a rental store vs. a rental box (i.e. whatever you call those Blockbuster machine thingies in your local grocery store); no telling what might be in one of those. If surprisingly you love indie flicks or some other genre, let me know. I love movies. I do not watch much television anymore, either. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.

Do You Keep a Diary? Would You Want it Read After You Pass Away?
PLFXpert replied to PLFXpert's topic in The Bonfire
Well, I am not a crack whore, nor into drugs, but my mother knows not to hand-me-down anything unless she wants it sold, donated or shredded. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back. -

A lot of people start diaries/journals much later in life. If your mom/dad/grandma/grandpa passed and among their belongings was a diary or two, would you be interested in reading them? If not, what might you do with them? Do you think they would have wanted you to read it? Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back. -

Curious. I used to keep a journal as was instructed to by a college professor for a creative writing class. I knew she would read it, but wrote anything and everything down anyway--including observations about her (which surprisingly she thought were SUPERB!) I found it therapeautic, but ultimately abandoned the idea knowing my thoughts could essentially--and literally--be an open book to another. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back. -
Wow! She is quite talented! Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.

EBay'ers, 'tis the season to add 10% or more to your favorite charity when selling. Another thought: Attend a charity auction! Sure, you might have to dress up a bit, but you might be surprised at the range of things up for auction and their prices. For example, my hunny's company advertises their service on the radio. Recently, at a local auction his company purchased radio time from a popular radio-station that had donated X amount for a low starting price. He ended up paying about what they would normally pay, but instead the money went to the charity. Win-Win! I love silent auctions.

Oy vey--not to hijack my own thread, but--I had the most fun having my very own garage sale about a year ago. We had one closet and an attic full of stuff that needed to go. We advertised and put up signs. We "opened" at 6:30 a.m. and closed by Noon. At 11 a.m. I put out a sign advertising "everything $1" which was great because we had larger items people were traveling back for that then purchased all the things I wouldn't sell for $2 for $1. By Noon, most everything had sold, and Bill loaded the rest into his truck and headed toward Goodwill. I had SO much fun! But, the point of my awesome story is everything we sold worked. We could not give VCRs away, but I had cheap Radio Shack cameras, etc. and never-viewed-DVDs that sold for a killing. The guy who bought my RS camera was SO cute. He was like 60-years-old and rode up on his Harley and insisted a disk must have come with it. I retorted, if one did, I would have it for sure, and would look in my disk arsenal. I did, and there was, and I presented it to him and he bought it leaving us both very happy.

are there any problems with satellite tv in the south?
PLFXpert replied to TrophyHusband's topic in The Bonfire
I have lived in Florida my whole life and until I left the comforts of home for college, we had both satellite and cable. If it is feasible for you, you might consider paying for a basic cable service and then get all the bells & whistles you want through satellite. Edit: I would check whatever shows you typically DVR and see if they are available On Demand. If not, you might consider paying the additional $10/mo to include DVR with your basic cable plan--if you are concerned about shows not recording during satellite outages. Agreed. She had already joined, though, before she had her 10-month-old son. Thoughts? Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.

Of course there are plenty details missing, however, the article you linked states she joined the Army in 2007. Her son is 10 months old as of the date of the article. I am interested to hear thoughts and arguments in support of or against those in the military having children--specifically unmarried/single individuals or couples where both the mother and father are serving. For the purpose of this discussion, having the child was either planned for or really poorly prevented. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.

I was just about to post this. It is really interesting to hear your perspective. Paint me in a corner, but my color comes back.

I have a set area in the garage I store things that would be useful to another. Once the area is full, I send Bill out to load up his truck and haul it all to Goodwill. This happens more often than not, as Bill's mom is a habitual estate-saler constantly sending us home with a bunch of stuff that never makes it through the door to my house. Yup! I click on The Animal Rescue Site each day and have made a purchase or two from them in the past. Recently the formerly-mentioned Best Friends Animal Society won $100k from the site who partnered with Petfinder.com. It is a wonderful website for multiple causes; I would encourage everyone to choose at least one to click on each day and give for free!
