  3. Me too. Logic was one of my favorite classes, both math and philosophy. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490
  4. Warm weather would sure be nice. We had about a half inch of snow this morning. But I already paid for most of my training in advance, so I guess that's out. Now, the boy toy idea sounds good, but I've been a prim and proper school marm for a while (too long?). I guess I need to do something about that.
  5. I've thought about the "why", too, and really can't answer. But there is something in challenging myself that I just can't resist. Even with my measly 3 jumps, I have fallen in love with stepping out of that plane into the rushing wind. And under the canopy is the most peaceful place i have ever been, at least before I start my landing pattern. As soon as I land, I can't wait to do it again. 6. Yippeeeee!!! I just got finished posting grades for all my classes and am officially on vacation for the next month. I'm probably going to regret asking, but are there any suggestions for what I should do? Remember, I'm a teacher and most of my money (what there is of it) is going to training for skydiving.
  7. I guess I've never thought of myself as old, something I learned from my grandma. Even in her late 80's she was an independent, stubborn person who always figured she could do for herself. She was right, she could. We just liked helping her. Every now and then, I do realize I can't do everything I used to be able to do, and I WAS wondering if skydiving should have been on that short list. My jumps and the wonderful encouragement and stories I've gotten here have put those doubts to rest. I realize there may be some cool stuff I will never do, but there's enough to learn that I should be busy for a lot of years. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! 8. Yep. And it sure answers the typical question "Where am I ever gonna use the sh*t?" "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490
  9. Hmmmm. I wonder if my Department Chair would have a promblem with me using some of these on my next math test? Thinking about it, I taught at a prison for a while and I bet some of my students there could have aced this test!
  10. Maybe a little older, but take a look at my avatar. I've got a pretty fair amount. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490
  11. I gave up worrying about the gray hair a couple of years ago. I figure I earned every one of mine one way or another!
  12. Is there a problem with getting older? Damn, I hope not. Personally, I've got a lot of livin' left to do and I plan on doing it. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490
  13. I guess this is a topic i nned to bring up with my kids. They are still having a little difficulty with the idea of mom jumping out of airplanes so I have been minimizing the risks when we talk about skydiving. But I know they worry. I was really in deep trouble when I didn't check in with them after my first AFF jump. I feel the same way as most of the others posting here seem to, but I guess I better let them know it. 14. Thanks for the encouragement. It is really nice to know that others have started older than I am. I am really having a terrific time. I love a learning new things and being challenged. This sure does that.

  16. I did enjoy the jump and the next one that I did yesterday, too. I was really surprised by how different the wind made the two jumps. Almost no wind the first time and way more than anticipated the second time. My instructors were right. Arching really does help control the instability. It's just remembering to arch and arch correctly. (By the way, a big thank you to my instructors and all instructors for being willing and patient with us beginners)I've looked at some videos of skydives that I've found posted on here, (I'm pretty much avoiding ones that are of things not going right for the time being. My imagination is vivid enough!) and it generally looks almost effortless to do cool looking stuff, and then, when I'm just trying to stay stable, it is so challenging. Well, I do like a challenge! 17. I think Ill take your advice too. My level 3 jump is set for next weekend and i'm a little jittery too. Thanks
  18. Update - Well, I've decided I'm not too old, but it has been a long time since I was a student and learning something very new. I'm developing a real understanding for why my students often don't get it the first time. I did my second AFF jump today and once again didn't flare all the way. The wind had come up before I got down and slowed me down a lot so my landing was better than last time, but...... I think I need to stand myself in the corner and practice flaring a few hundred times. I get sorta frustrated with myself, but I am absolutely loving the challenge of learning to skydive. Oh yeah, this time I saw the plane as I stepped off and remember those first seconds. Quite a difference. It's such fun i'm headed to the DZ again next weekend for my level 3 jumps.
  19. It's worth the wait. I'm doing AFF and had to wait two weeks to do my second jump today. Hope things dry out for you.
