Sure. I sort of expect some folks might have some more interesting answers than others from what I seen in some of the threads around here.

I was born in the San Francisco area and lived along the California coast most of my life. In my 30's I decided to go back to school and got my MA in math at UC Davis. I'm currently a math teacher at a community college in Ontario, OR. I play saxaphone in our college jazz band and like photography and hope to someday be able to do photography while skydiving. I would sum myself up as having a 20 something brain in a 50 something body. Pat "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490

A city park in the middle of the day. It seems to me I wasn't very sober at the time. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490

This place is definitely having an influence on my ability to keep my thoughts to myself, but...... Questions 13 and 37, but I still have enough restraint to keep the details to myself

I might have a few more points in that case, but boy, did some of those questions bring back interesing memories

How about a part time job to pick up some extra bucks? If you can't be skydiving, you might as well be working extra
-
I realize this is an old thread, but somebody bumped it and I'm glad they did. Your response really resonates with me. When I did my tandem, I had no clue about the risks involved with skydiving, despite the video and waiver. When I landed I knew once was not enough. Within a few hours, I was calling the DZ to find out about lessons. Then I started learning everything I could. I found dropzone.com and read more and more. Even in the short time I've been involved, I've seen the sorrow and losses. When I made my first AFF jump a week and a half ago, I did it knowing much, much more about the risks and my responsibility for my own safety. ANd now, when I look at the sky, I can hardly wait to jump again. Pat "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490

Help! I need freefall speed information please!
grannyinthesky replied to imstu's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I've been looking for projects for a math/physics concepts class that I'm working on with another instructor. This idea could lead to something and getting the jumping data would be fun besides. Thanks for the idea. Pat "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490 -
What birthday traditions made you feel special?
grannyinthesky replied to windcatcher's topic in The Bonfire
I always got to pick what we had for dinner on my birthday when I was a kid. Usually pizza and then I got to have leftover pizza the next day! "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490 -
Difficult is really relative. It wouldn't be just you having a more challenging test; everyone would. My GRE's were a loooong time ago, but what helped me more than any classes I took, was doing as many practice tests as I could find. The more you know about the kinds of questions and the kinds of answers they are looking for the better. Also, keep in mind, you can take the test more than once. I just had this random thought wander through my mind----I have a job that pays ok unless I want to do fun expensive things and, of course, what do I like to do? Photography and skydiving Waaaaay fun, but damn expensive. Oh, well, at least I can work extra to pay for my habits! "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490

Well, unless I work my tail off with teaching extra classes, I don't make a whole lot, but I love the work. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490

Yes, I do have a passion for math that very few seem to have. But passion for the subject isn't enough, you also need to convey that passion to your students in a way that they can get it. It doesn't happen often enough, but that's what makes me a teacher, I guess. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490

But that's a good thing! Here in eastern Oregon/western Idaho there really need some exposure to the rest of the world

True!!! And I plan on repeating the experience as often as possible. Many of the students around here are fascinated and stop by my office to see if I've jumped again, etc. Several are seriously interested in giving it a try.
