    Although I have seem some excellent home schooling, I've seen more of the kind you're describing. I think it's doing a terrible disservice to the kids. They really are prepared for the world in so many ways, not just socially.     Yeah, we're planning on Christmas coming after New Year's Day this year. It should be a challenge for my daughter to leave the tree up. She's one of those take the tree down the 26th people.

Her ex, related to the Grinch or Scrooge, decided he wanted to have the boys this Christmas--in Texas--It will be the first time they've been away at a holiday.     I would sure hope it is something like you are suggesting, but as a college math teacher, I spend a lot of time wondering why I am having to teach basic arithmetic in an algebra class for adults. And applications cause such grief that it is raally sad. Even when students manage to figure out the mechanics of what we are doing, they really struggle to use the math.     I was thinking about on the way home tonight and realized that was actually the more accurate explanation for what I was trying to say. The problem I see is how scientists and non-scientists use words like fact, law and theory. Their meanings depend on the speaker and the setting. We had some rather spirited debate in the physics class I just finished, although to call it debate is probably not entirely accurate. Some of us debated and discussed.     You can't blame me for students' math skills in Idaho. I get them at a community college on the Idaho/Oregon border and try to teach them the funner stuff, algebra and calculus

    For an old lady, I do pretty good with most technology. I've got the cell phone, MP3 player and digital camera pretty well whipped. It does take me a few minutes longer and I usually rely on the dircetions though. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490

    Actually, from what my physics prof pounded into us this quarter, what we perceive as facts does change. For example, it was an accepted fact that humans had 22 pairs of chromosomes at one time.
