I wish I'd started at 42. I'm 57 and just getting going, at least when the weather and other stuff cooperates with me. I teach and I'm on our winter break right now, so it's a little frustrating to not be able to get more jumps in. Merry Christmas. I was glad to help out. Yes, snow is really pretty, especially when it's something you don't see often. I lived for about 10 years in the mountains of Idaho here where we had snow from November through April most ears. It really isn't much fun to drive in or to shovel off your driveway and sidewalks. How is the jumping going? I did my first tandem jump in October and I've done my first 2 AFF jumps. The weather hasn't been cooperating very well.

Lawyer-Max security pennitentiary is death sentence
grannyinthesky replied to Richards's topic in Speakers Corner
Many of them certainly deserve that kind of existence. And it is preferable to state-condoned killing. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490 -
Lawyer-Max security pennitentiary is death sentence

It's really not that simple. I worked in a correctional facility for several years and it is a much more complex environment that many might expect. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490 -

The safety and security of the staff at the institution. Desperate men will do desperate things. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490 -

Lawyer-Max security pennitentiary is death sentence

Even in solitary, inmates do have some contact with other people, correctional officers, medical staff, clergy and visitors among others. They can write letters and communicate with family, if any are still on speaking terms. They are given exercise time, hygience time and so on. They just don't get to socialize and interact with other inmates, except clandestinely. It is a very bleak existence, but not inhumane considering how they have offended. I quit in 1984 cold turkey. I smoked about 3 packs a day at the time. Can you say chimney? I haven't smoked a cigarette since.

Do you believe there are three basic types of rocks?
grannyinthesky replied to quade's topic in Speakers Corner
Actually, except for in pre-algebra, other than using an arithmetic process to show an algebraic process (ex fractions and rational expressions), that is my general approach. I also teach them how to use their calculators correctly to help bolster the weak arithmetic skills. I am mostly lamenting that we have so many college students that can't do arithmetic, let alone junior high or high school algebra before getting to college. Math is pretty hard to do over the phone, but I'd be glad to help out by posts, e-mail or PM's where I can. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490

Impressive. I couldn't get beyond that 44. Too much math, too little reading lately, I guess. I'm teaching calculus this year for the first time since grad school and it's sort of taking over my brain. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490

Try finding a used Intermediate Algebra book at a used bookstore and doing any end of chapter tests. That will help you focus on the areas you need to work on. I teach math at a community college, so if you get stuck and need a little help, let me know and I'll see what I can do. Pat "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! How long since you had a math class? It doesn't take long for skills to get rusty. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490
