Do you believe 1 carbon atom is has more mass than 1 oxygen atom?
grannyinthesky replied to quade's topic in Speakers Corner
My brain just works faster than my fingers. I went back and fixed it. Thanks, By the way, that's aamong the reasons I'm a math teacher. I can skip steps and still get to the correct answer. Actually, the next class is probably astronomy. I managed to get my master's with almost no science to go with it and I'm trying to correct that. What a great excuse for calling in sick, but our DZ is only open on weekends until later in the year. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490

Greetings from Costa Rica

Hi Richard, Go for the tandem!! I'm a 57 year old grandmother and did my first jump, a tandem, in October. A few hours later, I was calling the DZ to find out about training to get my license. I've done two AFF jumps and they were even more fantastic. A little scary, yes, but the excitement is unbelievable. Go for it! "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! My dogs, if they decided to share with me, would boot me out of bed bright and early for a trip outdoors. They just don't understand weekends or vacation. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490 -

Believe me, you really don't want to see granny boobies! -
Well, it's right up there with a cousin I had who would tie pieces of food to the end of a string with the other end attached to something when we were camping. Blue jays would grab the food and try to fly off with it. Yeah... Anyway, raccoons dip their food in water berfore eating. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! For a word person, you're doing great, but make that a 1/2 chance. Statistics/probability is governed by the law of large numbers. It really isn't an individual's chance of doing something, but rather if the activity happens a sufficiently large number of times, then # out of n times, you can expect to have a certain result. Does being a pilot give you any kind of edge?
grannyinthesky replied to A1CSpooky's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
As a math instructor who's just started AFF, I can really appreciate what you are saying about different learning styles. I can easily absorb the information about calculating wing load or landing patterns, for example, so studying that material from the SIM lets me concentrate on the things that are really foreign to me, like flying the landing pattern that my brain says should happen. It's also a big challenge personally to be in the student rold. I'm used to knowing what to do and doing it competently. What a change! I find I really have to give myself permission to make mistakes. Pat "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490 -

Thanks for posting this. I've thought a lot about it and how different is is now than the 60's and 70's with Vietnam. I lost friends then, both physically and mentally because of the way the war changed them. It is really good to see our young men and women getting the respect and admiration they deserve. Again, thanks. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490
