grannyinthesky replied to floridadiver81's topic in The Bonfire
It seems to me we discussed some help with math along the line. Let me know if I can help. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490 -
There are priorities, of course and you've got them in the right order here. The weather looks a little cooler, but nice this weekend and the test will be done by then, right? I've got another road trip Friday and Saturday, but I'm planning on being there Sunday. Come on over, Pat "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490

Thanks, all of you. As much of a post whore as this place has made me, I'll pass on posting indivudual thank you's. Skydiving is more than just jumping out of airplanes to me and all of the great people like you folks are very much part of my life now because of it. Oh, yeah, things finally went my way for the first time in two months yesterday and I actually got to jump again. Woo hoo!! "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! Oh, good. The refrig at the dz was looking pretty bare yesterday. I'm glad I'm not the only one who will be refilling it and my case is sure not going to be the light stuff that was left in there. Ycch "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490

Thanks, it is me. Someone from USPA read my blog on myspace and asked if I was interested in submitting an article, so I did. Being a math teacher, it's a challenge to try to write coherently. I havn't got my magazine yet, so I don't know how they may have fixed it. Skydiving means a lot to me as you can hopefully tell from the article. And a huge part of skydiving for me is all the people I am meeting, both here and at the dz. Hopefully I'll get to meet lots more people this summer. Way to go! It is great, isn't it. It sounds like you had a great jump. It just gets better and better. I finally got up in the air again after almost two months and I've had that same perma-grim you have. Woo hoo!!!! "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490 -
What in the world does the number of jumps someone has have to do with the ability to use good judgement? "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490

Tips for buying gear online without being scammed.
grannyinthesky replied to GravityGirl's topic in Gear and Rigging
I figure by summer I will be looking for used gear and from what I've seen so far, there isn't much used gear for sale in this area, let alone gear for a new jumper. It should be an interesting time, but at least I know enough not to go looking in Italy or sending money through WU "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490 -
Thanks for the link. i'm going to pass it on to my students. Good stuff. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490

She's clearly missing in action and has been for way too long in my opinion. Please, please, somebody find her and persuade her to come back and fix our weather.

I can very much understand what you are saying. I, too, lost my brother to cancer. He was diagnosed and died within just a few months leaving many hopes, plans and dreams unfulfilled. I realized I didn't want the same thing to happen wiith me. I had been living a very quiet, safe life, doing little but existing. I really didn't know how to change my life or where to start, but I did start making changes, losing weight, trying new activities and rediscoveriing old ones. Then in October last year, an opportunity to do a tandem came my way. I hadn't particularly thought about skydiving, but it seemed like a fun thing to do, so off to the dz I went. Well, that day changed my life. Skydiving has been the catalyst that is leading me to a much more fulfilling life. I am learning to challenge myself in my daily life as well as in the air. There is much more I could say, but if you're interested, look at my blog on myspace. I will be walking as many hours as I can in June in the local Relay for Life to do my part in funding the fight against cancer. My brother's passing changed my life, but I hope others can find change another way, without the sadness and grief. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490

The BEST school project I have ever done!
grannyinthesky replied to skydivermom's topic in The Bonfire
Thanks for the welcome. It has been an incredible ride so far. It would be nice if I had found skydiving when I was younger, but at least I did get here. It has truly changed my life in ways that i never expected. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490 -
The BEST school project I have ever done!
grannyinthesky replied to skydivermom's topic in The Bonfire
Yep. When you can jump out of an airplane, you know you can face your fears and conquer them. I have to run a 3 day conference for about 160 of my peers this coming week and I understand being a little nervous myself. I am going to keep being a skydiver with all it means to me firmly in mind. We'll both do just fine. -

My first AFF skydive this Saturday.
grannyinthesky replied to npgraphicdesign's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
It's not always a matter of money. I paid for my first 16 jumps up front in November and have used 7 of them. For students, weather can be a biggie and then at a small drop zone, you can also have lack of pilot, lack of plane, all instructors taking time off at the same time... You name it, I think I have been there. You can't believe how much I am looking forward to getting to do two jumps in the same day. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! Flurries, yeah, but it's only in the 40's today instead of the almost 80's we had last weekend. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490

Boy, and I thought waiting 4 hours before I got to jump was a bummer. It was actually about 7 or 8 hours because we had to wait for clouds to clear What I'd say now.... High: All the great people I've met through skydiving Low: It's been 8 weeks since my last jump with weather, no plane, no pilot, no instructor taking turns keeping e on the ground. And I thought a few hours wait was a lot!!! "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490

My first AFF skydive this Saturday.
grannyinthesky replied to npgraphicdesign's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I beginning to figure that out. It's taken me since Thanksgiving Weekend to get a total of 8 jumps so far. It hasn't always been weather problems (lack of pilot, lack of plane, lack of available instructor), but wind does seem to be the biggest cause of me being stuck on the ground. I am having fun on those days getting to know the other jumpers and I am learning a lot from watching how they land. Everyone tells me it will get better as summer gets closer. I sure hope so!!! Whats one thing you enjoy about being a adult?
grannyinthesky replied to shortyj's topic in The Bonfire
Getting even with my kids for the grey hair they gave me...... you know doing things like spoiling my grandkids, going to the dz to jump and not answering my cell phone when they are calling to check on me. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490 -
I was your dz a couple of weeks ago and since I'm still a student, couldn't jump, but I did do an observer ride. I loved the view and climb to altitude near the mountains. I didn't like having to ride the plane down though. Next time I'm there it's going to be when I can enjoy the view without a plane in the way. My first AFF skydive this Saturday.
grannyinthesky replied to npgraphicdesign's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I have done a refresher course twice myself so far and I have found the same thing. Each time I learn a lot and have new questions. I'm really hoping that the long gaps between jumps are about done. I am beginning to get the idea that no matter what time of year it is, there will be times when students will be grounded when most everyone else is jumping. After seeing how skilled the jumpers had to be yesterday in the wind, I've got a feeling there will definitely be pllenty of times when I'll be grounding myself.
