I had a great time. I can hardly wait for the weekend to get here so i can jump some more. And to do some jumps from something besides a 182. i'm hoping for some good weather Thursday, too so I can get some more practice at landing. I am planning on coming that way the end of June and for the Leap for Lupus. Jumping out of anything bigger than our 182's sounds really good. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490

The tunnel is a great place to learn. I'm headed backto the tummel in Ogden for another session in a couple of weeks. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490

There are some of us students around who do show up rain or shine. Since I decided November was a good time to start AFF in Idaho, I spent far more days at the dropzone when I couldn't jump than when I could. I asked to learn to pack on days when the snow wouldn't quit or the sky clear. I spent whole days there and got one jump. Do I regret it? Hell no! I have had a great time listening to tales of the old days, learned from watching jumpers landing and packing and made some great new friends. I wouldn't trade those hours for anything and I am sure there is no doubt in anyone's mind that I am dedicated to learning to skydive. But I am at a time in my life when I can indulge myself and do that sort of thing. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490

How did you're first Hop & Pop go?
grannyinthesky replied to Sletzer's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I did my 3500 foot hop n'pop this evening and it went great. It wasn't near as scary as I expected it to be. It was actually fun. And I spotted for myself and jumped my own pack job, too. What a blast!! It just gets better and better. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490 -
Questions About Skydiving
grannyinthesky replied to Magicrock's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
As a teacher, I can't resis helping a student, so here's a little from an older beginner. I started in October at age 57 1.) What made you want to go skydiving It was a field trip for a physics class I was taking. I had never seriously given any thought to skydiving before that time. 2.) What did you feel prior to jumping out of the plane I saw three young men go out of the plane ahead of me and they reminded me of kids at Christmas about to get the best present in the world. I figured for them to look like that, I must be about to have a. (and I was right) 3.) What was the free-fall like It is an indescribable experience as others have said. It is noisy and windy and the view is spectacular. I remember thinking how much better the view looked without an airplane in the way. n experience I would never forget 4.) When you touched down how did you feel Speechless and one of my first thoughts was that I was definitely going to do it again. About two hors later I was considering doing it every year on ly birthday and two hours after that, I was calling the dropzone to find out how to get a license so I could do it myself 5.) Anything else you want to say about skydiving That first skydive changed my life in ways that I never imagined possible. I have grown in my self-confidence and found a world of slightly dysfunctional people that make everyday more fun than the one before. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! Cool. I've got three grandkids. The middle one is nine and can't wait until he can jump out of airplanes. He told me he's going to jump at Star where I jump and that I have to watch. I'm not sure his mother would appreciate it, but I sure do. Hope I get to meet you soon. I'm planning on going to the second weekend of LP and I've pretty much been persuaded to go to Chicks Rock this year too. It took me way too long to discover skydiving, but now that I have, I don't plan on wasting time getting to jump and travel.
-
Great response, but when you jump from a C-182 like we do at Star, I think there are times you could turn the plane sideways with the door open and we still wouldn't fall out. It's a tight fit sometimes. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490

How did you're first Hop & Pop go?
grannyinthesky replied to Sletzer's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Actually, I don't even have my A yet. I'm only at 19 jumps and I stilll have a bunch of stuff to get marked off my yellow card. But, now that the weather and other issues are getting better, I can see it happening soon. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490 -
How did you're first Hop & Pop go?
grannyinthesky replied to Sletzer's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Now that I've done one successfully and am back to being able to get off the step right, I'm pretty sure I won't mind doing more. I do still need to do one from 3500. I plan on getting that one done sometime the coming weekend. I was checking out what it would look like from that altitude on the way up the other day and it sure seems mighty close to the ground. I'm having a hard time deciding if I wan't to do my own packing for that jump or not, but I probably will. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490 -
How did you're first Hop & Pop go?
grannyinthesky replied to Sletzer's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Yeah, that was me. Someone from the magazine read my blog on myspace and asked me to write it. It was surprising to both me and my instructor that I didn't arch off the step. I hadn't had any problem with that until the first solo I did off the step and then the hop n'pop. I think I've got it worked out ok now, though.
