My first AFF skydive this Saturday.
grannyinthesky replied to npgraphicdesign's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I paid in advance for the first 16 jumps, so at least I'm not having to deal with money issues too, I just can't seem to get a break from weather and other problems here. Everyone reassures me that things will work out and I will get my jumps in. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490 -
My first AFF skydive this Saturday.

I started AFF Thanksgiving weekend, and it's been an exercise in learning patience. I iwas once again foiled by the wind. Weather woes just seem to be part of being a student. -
Fun stuff, lbut please don't show them to the lawmakers here in ID. We'd probably end up with some new laws here. #7 in particular comes to mind. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490

Hmmmmm I'm teaching this summer and that means Monday through Thursday so I was planning on getting there Thursday night. It sounds like I might need to skip school on Thursday so I can go to the tower. Think my students would mind??? "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490

Me, too. Knowing I'm going to get on the scale every day helps keep the urge to eat things I know I shouldn't under control. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490

Motivation for First Jump
grannyinthesky replied to WhuffoNoMo's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
My first skydive was a field trip for a physics class I was taking at the community college where I teach. Although skydiving had sounded interesting to me, in all my 57 years, I had never seriously considered trying it before the field trip. When I sat on the ground after landing on my tandem jump, I remember thinking "I could do this again." That was with my ears pounding from congestion that I didn't realize I had or that it was a problem. A couple of hours later, I was thinking that I could do a tandem on my birthday every year. Ears still huring like hell. About two hours after that and not caring that my ears still pounded, I was calling the dz to find out about starting training. What keeps bringing me back is not only the excitement of jumping, but the challenge inherent in the sport. It's the opportunity to live life in a way that says I am really alive. Now if the weather would just cooperate so I could get in the air again..... "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490 -

It takes me about an hour and $25 for gas with the SUV I drive, but I've found it well worth the time. Get to know those skydiving pro's. You'd probably be surprised at how willing they are to talk about their skydiving experiences. Skydiving is about more than just jumping out of planes. One of the best parts is the people. You might see about learning to pack for the days you can't jump, too. You don't have to have your A license to be a packer. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! Yep, go anyway and get to know people. I think I've been spent more days at the dz the last couple of months not jumping than when i've been able to jump. I learn a lot from talking to jumpers and watching them as they land and so on. I've also spent time learning to pack. It's never a waste
