  1. Oh, yeah.........Or maybe some fried backstrap....mmmmmmm "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490
  2. I'm a lot lighter and i've been jumping a 260 sq ft. I haven't had any problems flaring, but I do make sure when I turn on to final that my arms are ALL the way up so I am going at full speed. You need the speed to convert to lift. Make sure you talk to your instructors. They are watching you land so they should be your best source of help...... 4. That at 57 years old I can still indulge my love of learning, both in the classroom and in the sky.
  5. Rub it in a little, why don't cha????? "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490
  6. Oh, I know that feeling so well. I started AFF Thanksgiving weekend and between weather issues and assorted other things, I have only been able to get 7 jumps done and I went so long between jumps that I had to do a recurrency class. It was also down right cold for 5 of those jumps as in temps in the 20's on the ground. I am glad I've been able to jump a little, so I guess I better not complain too loud "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490
  7. Well, this thread has certainly given me lots to think about, especially the last comment. The idea of jumping at 3500 feet doesn't thrill me right now to start with. I'm also feeling like the guy up there is already messing with me. The weather here today is absolutely beautiful and will be all weekend. But once again, no jumping. This time it's the pilot. He and his wife had a baby yesterday and he seems to think that comes first. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490
  8. That's so great. I hope your sister has as great a jump as I did on my tandem. See where it got me? And I'm really happy you got a rig too. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490
  9. Not necessarily. Where I jump we don't have internet access. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490
  10. Although I just a beginner, from what Ihave read, many DZ's require uSPA memebership for you to be able to jump. How else are you going to be able to show them you're a member? "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490
  11. I did my application and paid on line. I got my card within a couple of weeks with no problems. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490

  16. Oh, that picture of the bridge makes me homesick. I don't care how long I live in Idaho, the SF area is still home. [sigh] "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490
  17. That's nice. Even as a kid, I liked to take pictures of sunsets, sunrises and things that fly. Hmmm....I guess the sky was calling me even then. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490
  18. Here's a few I took in Miami a few weeks ago. The Atlantic sure has nice sun rises. I generally see sunsets. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490
  19. Hi Shari, Hope you have bunches of fun on your birthday. Pat "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490
  20. After 5 weeks, finally a jump, so 0:1:0, but it's better than 000. By the way, the jump was great. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490
  21. Miy favorite instrument is the saxophone. I love the rich tones and the emotionas you can express with the vibrato. I started playing again about 5 years ago after a lapse of 30+ years, and I discovered it was my favorite instrument. In high school I had switched to clarinet because the music was more challenging. I am currently playing lead alto in our college jazz band and love the feel when the band is playing well. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490
  22. I'm sure glad you folks kept that weather to yourself for a change. It was in the 40's and lots of beautiful blue sky today. Can you tell I finally got to jump? "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490
  23. I did, finally. It had been 5 weeks, so I got to do a recurrency class first, but then.........Woo hoo, jump number 7. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490
  24. I had a feeling that is what you had in mind. I think you should strongly consider the possibility that you are not ready to learn to skydive at this time. IT IS NOT SAFE TO SKYDIVE WITHOUT COMPETENT INSTRUCTION. I am very serious and gravity is deadly serious. Even with my 6 jumps, I can appreciate how challenging it is to learn to skydive with good competent instructors. Please reconsider your desire to learn to skydive until you are able to follow the directions of your instructors. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490
  25. I doin't know about legend, but what I have done is to work with a physics instructor to link his physics class with one of my math classes in a learning community. (take one class and you have to take the other too). We are using skydiving as the basis for many of our joint activities. There's a lot of fun math and physics involved in skydiving and the kids seem fascinated with a teacher who skydives. Either that, or they think I'm a little nuts. WE are going to be teaching the class this summer and a 6 day field trip is part of the class. I hoping to take the students to a DZ on the way for them to observe people landing (and me landing too. Gotta have some fun along the way. Maybe I can get administration to pay my jumping costs that day.) If any can afford and want to do a tandem, I'd hope to arrange that as well. I understand canopies are made in the Bend, OR area where we will be part of the time and I'm hoping they can possible get a tour. Fortunately, I've got a fair amount of time to get this put together. Right now, my own skydiving is taking precedence. The DZ called this morning. I'm supposed to be there at 9am. The weather forecast is for sunny skies and 40 degrees, so hopefully tomorrow afternoon will see me in the air a couple of times. I have to spend the morning reviewing stuff because the weather kept me on the ground for over the 30 days. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490
