Oh, Lisa.....What have you done?? "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490

Do REAL MEN use girly IM abbrevs. like "OMG?"
grannyinthesky replied to RastaRicanAir's topic in The Bonfire
Text messages on cell phones are an ok place to use the abbreviations. E-mail and other written communication should be written observing correct spelling and grammar. I have an ulterior motive for my statement. I can't figure out too many of the abbreviations in use today, even with the use of the urban distionary. My daughter is a better source, but that has led to hysterical laughter on her part when deciphering some of the more sexually oriented ones for me. After the day I had, I had to post on this one. You know you're a skydiver when you drive 1000 miles (350 of them in an f**king snowstorm) rather than fly so you can use the difference between the mileage reimbursement and the actual gas costs. It make me $350 to put in my skydiving savings account, but with the crappy weather, I kept having to remind myself why I chose to drive that far. Yeah, there were some. Fortunately, more of the fun type than the other. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490

Yep, he's the fun type of perv, not the wierdo kind. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490

Yeah, a grin really helps. I jumped with a different instructor one time and when I was checking in with him before exiting, he stuck his tongue out at me. I did a lot better that jump than I had the one before. I just looked at your home page....Hi fellow math nerd. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490

I tried that for a long time and finally just gave up. I figure I earned every one of them. Besides,, I figure that like a fine wine, I'm getting better with age so I might as well be who I am. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490

On my last jump (three weeks ago....damn weather.....) I basically spent the whole freefall time with my instructor just keeping his hand on my harness as I tried to figure out how to stop potato chipping. Finally, I though about relaxing. I relaxed my arms and legs and, poof, I was instantly stable. I didn't do any of the turning I was supposed to do, but I'm hoping it was a lesson that will stay with me so that when I repeat the dive (if the skies ever clear0, I'll be able to actually see if I can turn. Of course, after reading about your adventures, there may be a few surprises there too. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490

You're going to ruin that bad boy image if you keep this up....... "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490

Yeah, I'm sorta getting the idea that might be a good idea. I think there just might be some less altruistic motive for his thread......Somehow I don't think the wormen here would need his help to figure out who they'd like to be with.... I've thought about that too. Vidwo's I've seen of swooping make it look really cool, but at my age, I'm don't think that's on the list of things I'm going to try.

Why is it I just have a little trouble believing that? "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490

Thanks. I especially like #1. Too often we overlook people like the cleaning lady.

40 is a whole lot better than 57!!! Besides, by waiting, you got to do your first jumps together. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490

I can see my middle (9 year old) grandson saying that. He wants to jump and he wants to come watch me when I jump. I'm hoping I get to jump with that little live wire in another 9 years. I'll probably bring him to the DZ one of these days, at least if I ever learn to land on my feet!! Both my kids are coming around to the idea somewhat and have said they are willing to give it a try, if I am the one paying. Once I've got my license and gear of some sort, I'll probably see if they are really willing. Oh yeah, my son says if he jumps, I have to get a tattoo. I'm not so sure about that part, but I would consider it. "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490

Oh, this makes your questions more understandable, but to safely parachute into remote areas, you would need a lot of experience that you can only get by jumping, not reading. Even being able to describe and explain every part of the process of doing a jump, the actual jumping is very different. Freefall, for example, is the biggest collection of radically new sensations that I have ever experienced. Try typing "sensory overload" into the search box. You'll see what I mean. Well, I used to be. Was it jumping out of an airplane that did it to me? i'm even beginning to think that Walt has a good side "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490

I have yet to figure out how I have managed to post so many times. I'm usually a pretty quiet person, at least until I get to know someone. There must be some kind of waves emanating from the computer that makes me type things I wouldn't otherwise say to strangers..... "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! It's pretty hard to understand when it is your boobies. I could see the subjject changing if it was granny boobies "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490

It does seem to generally go the other way, doesn't it? "safety first... and What the hell..... safety second, Too!!! " ~~jmy POPS #10490

That sure sounds like good advice. you probably have no idea how much I would like to jump more than once in a day, though. The weather jjust never cooperates. I've ended up spending half of about every day I've been at the DZ waiting for clouds to clear or wind to die down. I hope the OP has better luck than I have had.
