I see it here and other places. People are using the terms health care and health insurance interchangeably. They are distinctly different. I have been without insurance and had perfectly good care. I paid cash. There has not been any healthcare reform. Insurance laws were modified. You can still have the exact same health care as before. How it is paid for has changed. This is not a minor issue. People keep decrying the loss of health care. Hospitals can not refuse someone health care in many situations. They can refuse to accept payment from a third party (insurance). So, it is often untrue in these discussions that health care will be withheld. That is a scare tactic. You can still have health care. You may just be responsible for paying your own way. Now, the new book of laws (Obamacare) modifies not health care, but insurance. Just an inside view - 26 years of service and still going - son is gay: There is a chance that assimilation of openly homosexual servicemembers will resemble the assimilation of blacks. There will be some servicemembers that take issue with the openly gay and make it difficult for them. In all, however, I think the military culture is much more tolerant of such issues than ever before and will handle the transition well. There will be some expense. You....the american voting public, are what make the system work or not work. Lobbyist are allowed by politicians...which you elect. Media is supported by advertising $$$, nobody watches or reads or listens, no income, that station dies. I know its more fun to blame other's though..... You aren't alone, Sarah. Most people feel like their lives are out of control from time to time. They want to clear out responsibilities, stuff, relationships or anything they perceive to be eating up their time, patience and money. Chances are, this is a temporary feeling inspired by facts / events. Once you get on top of something like a project due in school, you will probably feel better. Staying ahead of deadlines will help prevent this feeling in the future, but it will return from time to time. Take a deep breath, figure out what needs to be done now, and get to work. But, I am of the opinion that all who are so protected should contribute in direct relation to their benefit. Therefore, a percentage of their earnings would be representative of what they have been able to do with their liberty. A rich person would contribute more and the poor would contribute less. Earnings are a measure of the realized gain from the playingfield protected by the necessary evil that is government. Net worth is a reflection of your spending habits, family expenses and a host of other things that I don't want the government involved in. Government involvement would not be directly related to protection of individual liberties so much as protection of government. Never a good thing. I understand your point, but have to disagree. There is a world of difference between publishing national secrets that hurt national security (and world peace indirectly) and publishing something that a man finds embarassing. If you only looked at the dollar value of damage done, the two are hardly comparable in any way. I think it is clear that Asange facilitated (inspired?) treason. It's hard to muster much sympathy for him as a rape defendant. Don't get too wild. I still believe he deserves a fair trial and it is possible he is completely innocent of these charges. I just think his stance on full disclosure and his discomfiture at the release of his information is paradoxical. To claim they are equal in status is silly. That is a myth. Most depressed people talk themselves through the holidays by blaming their depression on the holidays. I agree, however, that not everyone wants to be cheerful.
