I would suggest talking to the student about whether she can afford specialized gear. Write tasteful letters / emails to major manufacturers with her measurements, weight, etc. and describe the problem. Suggest that you will (or you will find someone to) write an article for various publications such as Parachutist and any specialty publications for people with her challenges. You will take lots of pictures on the ground and in the air with the manufacturer's logo prominently displayed. Those images will accompany any story publication. See if anybody is willing to make the investment for the publicity value. It is unlikely that this niche market would make the investment of time worthwhile otherwise. You might also want to look into a good suit to help with stability and have her practice with it in a wind tunnel. There are generally ways to work a mechanical advantage and longer throw to solve the problems described. They usually make things more complex and therefore prone to problems. Congratulations! Arizona is pretty nice. I missed trees when I was there, but the scenery has a seductive quality of it's own. You might also look into hang gliding while you're there. Conditions are good for it. The heat isn't that bad to me. Although people make fun of calling it a 'dry heat', it really doesn't feel the same as the sweltering southeast. Hope you love it. I've been jumping rental gear. Finally ordering my own stuff. I've been jumping a 220 Raider. Easy to stand up. I'm 200lbs. I'm told the performance difference between ZP and F111 is dramatic. I probably would have wrestled her. I've fought women plenty of times in martial arts. Some of them were incredible martial artists. What the boy did was much more laudable than anything else he could have done. It took much more courage to stand up to the criticism he will encounter than to wrestle her. Even if he lost, I'm sure the girl has beaten other guys. The ribbing would have been relatively minor. The way he went, he is getting lots more negative attention.
