I agree. It annoys me to no end to see a LEO vehicle driven in an illegal fashion. More than once I have called a dispatcher to talk to the watch commander about officers representing their departments this poorly. Ordinarily, I obey the speed limit. There are times my speed gets away from me, but I try. I try to stay right on it and stay in the rightmost lane. I know others want to speed and it is not my place to get in their way. Back when I did speed, I paid my tickets without comment. I earned the ticket. I paid the ticket. Same goes today. I claim my mistakes without excuse. Just answering your questions. Not insisting that you follow suit. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.

Why It's Not a 'Safe Bet' to Believe In God

1. You presume this is the unfalible word of God. That means you throw out all of the facts regarding it's arrival in current form. 2. You apparently do not know what this meant in Hebrew. The ones who translated this did not understand the concept of witness stones and translated it to witness. To a Jew, the first has meaning. The second has a completely different meaning. It's important. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. Mmmmm....I've been a cop. They come in all sorts. Most don't bother to write you a ticket unless you are significantly over the limit. Others have no tolerance. They have lots of motivations. They all have one thing in common, the speeding driver cast the important vote. You admit that you were breaking the law. But you blame the cop. Obviously, the cop was wrong for lying. But that has no bearing on your wrongdoing. The fact that he picked you out of a string is your bad luck. But, it is also no mitigation to your malfeasance. And, you are completely unremorseful. You went out and bought a device to make it safer for you to break the law and endanger other motorists. Now, you are online advocating its use by others. Bad cop. Bad driver. Everyone loses. You had a chance to make the situation marginally better by learning from your mistake. You passed. Just something to think about. You are not a terrible person because you exceed the speed limit. You are not even abnormal. I just find it interesting when people try to deflect. I thought pointing it out stood the chance of being helpful to someone who reads this. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.

Why It's Not a 'Safe Bet' to Believe In God
davjohns replied to dreamdancer's topic in Speakers Corner
Why don't you? Is it only because of your fear of the "ultimate" consequence? Or does it also have to do with aversion to more immediate consequences? I know how much my mom would nag me. Why It's Not a 'Safe Bet' to Believe In God

I read the original post. I was looking forward to the logical argument that was promised. Four paragraphs later, it was just a rant. The link might have lead to logic, but I wasn't willing to invest the time to find out (having been duped into reading so far). I can see the cited Argument as being consistent with Jefferson's theory that whether my neighbor believes in one god, or twenty, or none at all; it neither lightens my purse or breaks my leg. If so, the argument is 'why are you trying to make me an atheist?' I find atheists that proselytize identical to religious people who proselytize. Both hope to change my viewpoint to their own, but not necessarily for my benefit. Personally, I don't know. I choose to believe in a God, but not one defined by organized churches. If you convince me there is no god; beware. I am extremely intelligent, well trained, in excellent condition and just a bit lazy and vindictive. As soon as you convince me there is no ultimate consequence to my actions unless man can enforce them, I'm likely to kill you and take your wallet. Of course, I'll make it look like an accident. :) I'm playing here, but think about it. Why wouldn't I turn to a life of profitable criminal enterprise? The social contract? Fear of the legal system? A warm, fuzzy feeling inside? I scoff. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. I bought a jeep on ebay from up north. I don't recall how I found the guy. It was an individual (basically) who picked up and delivered. Went well. I would expect google could be your friend here. When my son was young and learning proper English, he came to me one day with his cleaned plate and asked for, "More, please." I said, "You want to put that in a sentence?" He said, "No. I want it on a plate." He wasn't being smart alec. He just knew what he wanted. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. Reaching back to my school days...I think they are both race and nationality. They have genetic commonality (race) and a unifying social myth (Nationality). So, what did you guys receive? I don't know of anyone even interested in me, so I am living vicariously through the people I believe to be on the other side of this computer screen. And even I, as a pacifist, can appreciate the training that you have received and the actions that you go through. But the reality is that the US military, in its campaign(s), annihilates tens of thousands of civilians in the name of security, war, whatever you call it. I actually appreciate the soldier and the fighter and the infantryman, on the front lines. My objection is why you are there in the first place. My 'support' of the troops is to bring you home, not to have you over there killing people in a war that is/was a lie and then to pay for the reconstruction of countries that we have destroyed. I appreciate what you are saying. Just be careful not to blame the sword for the actions of the swordsman. I am sworn to obey the orders of those you elect, so long as they are not illegal, unethical or immoral. (You can debate whether war is moral ad nauseum) What some people fail to realize is that those of us who wage war as a profession are rarely advocates of it. We know better than most how horrible it can be. We are the ones who have to kill and bleed. We spend months away from those we love. We return to pick up the pieces. Then, we get to listen to those who have never been there tell us how it really was... I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. I always thought it would be really sexy if my SO was comfortable enough to borrow my shirts and wear them. Maybe lounging around the house or something. Probably just me. Mmmmm...I'll admit that picture is eye-catching. But she's wearing a wedding ring. I have such a strict personal code about other people's relationships, that I control my thoughts in regards to women in relationships. I know. I'm odd. Fair point. But I think Tricky Dicky was considered a great president until the tragic end. History has not been kind to him and maybe it shouldn't be. But he was still popular...like Reagan appears to have been. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. I question the one about his popularity. Quick research yielded this. "That November, Reagan was re-elected, winning 49 of 50 states.[174] The president's landslide victory saw Mondale carry only his home state of Minnesota (by 3800 votes) and the District of Columbia. Reagan won a record 525 electoral votes, the most of any candidate in United States history,[175] and received 58.8% of the popular vote to Mondale's 40.6%.[174]" I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. Severally and corporately, we go to great lengths to prevent the unnecessary loss of lives. I'm not sure why you hate the military, but I assure you that your paranoia is unfounded. Bad decisions are sometimes made. Mistakes happen. But it is the policy and practice of every level of the military to preserve life wherever we can.
