Skydiver claims he was fired for being gay
davjohns replied to Gravitymaster's topic in Speakers Corner
Every dropzone is a bastion of conservative family values. This would never happen at my DZ. Well, you don't need to be sexually attracted to someone to make sexual comments or grope them. It's often viewed as MORE funny because of the lack of sexual attraction. The guy's argument there doesn't hold water. Still...given the environment I am familiar with at the DZ, this is an odd twist. I wonder if the girl was looking for a freebie? Just curious. I would hope there is more to the story. Firing the guy and then refusing to view the video together suggests something else is going on. That's what allows him to claim it is the sexual preference at issue. I'm not real fond of government involvement in relationships; marriage or otherwise. Marriage laws and government involvement might have been necessary once to keep men from virtual ownership of women. But in today's world, if we are going to be equal, nobody needs the government to protect them in a relationship. Write out your own contract. If the other party breaches, sue. As to why gender matters? Religious beliefs being crammed down everyone else's throats. Same way with polygamy, except people ignore their own religious history. Biblical characters had multiple wives in the old testament. It wasn't until the new testament writing under the cultural influence or Rome that monogamy came in vogue. Saul was a Roman and pushed Roman virtues over traditional Jewish ones. The Christian church was more closely allied with Rome and followed suit. I don't see how it is government or public business who you live with or have sex with. It's just religious people trying to force others to live by their religious views. Seems I once read a government document that forbid the government to force religious views on people, but the document was old. I'm pretty sure nobody pays attention to it anymore. I've often thought that war should be waged like it used to be. If the King (President) wants to go to war, fine. Ruck up and let's go. Leave the VP in charge and lead the troops from the front. All of you Congressmembers and Senators, grab a rifle and get on the plane. Pray you left the diplomats a way to get you home. I think it would end us being the world's police force. Tell that to Cyndi, apparently she has a problem with people removing her bra mid-boogie. I do when they don't have my permission. question- do girls need permission to do so? serious question- are you going to help me tighten up my corset? it's a bit tough to do by yourself when it is on! Girls do not need permission. And I will gladly help tie you up so long as you help tie me up. haha. Yes- tie each other up. Deal. edit: my 1000th post was about girls being tied up. classy Your 1,000th post brought joy to many. How selfless of you. :) I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. Hmmmm...Alabama law just refers to weapons. It looks like VA does make such a distinction by calling it a concealed handgun permit. Weirdos. Oh, I laugh alot to begin with. But that time, everything was funny. Everybody was my friend. And I'm pretty sure I thought I was Pepe Le Peu because I was so darn amorous. And a fliiiiiiirt! I'm sure any of the guys who didn't know me thought I was gay. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. Actually, I am just eyeballing that list and they all look like reciprocity states. If so, you could get a concealed carry permit and be good in every one of them. ETA - Yup. According to this website http://www.usacarry.com/concealed_carry_permit_reciprocity_maps.html your VA concealed carry permit is honored in each of the states you cite. Did a little research. This is an old story. It has been dismissed by the leading experts. WAY too far from her last known position. The government will not provide photos. It is likely another aircraft (not an Electra) that was lost in that area in WWII. Fun doing the research, though. It's a fascinating story. Kind of like D. B. Cooper. I'm not sure how well this fits our discussion. But the discussion caused me to remember it, so I found it on the internet and share it here for grins. Feel free to mentally swap the genders. In today's world, it's perfectly plausible. THIS APPEARED ON CRAIG'S LIST What am I doing wrong? Okay, I'm tired of beating around the bush. I'm a beautiful (spectacularly beautiful) 25 year old girl. I'm articulate and classy. I'm not from New York. I'm looking to get married to a guy who makes at least half a million a year. I know how that sounds, but keep in mind that a million a year is middle class in New York City , so I don't think I'm overreaching at all. Are there any guys who make 500K or more on this board? Any wives? Could you send me some tips? I dated a business man who makes average around 100 - 150. But that's where I seem to hit a roadblock. 150,000 won't get me to central park west. I know a woman in my yoga class who was married to an investment banker and lives in Tribeca, and she's not as pretty as I am, nor is she a great genius. So what is she doing right? How do I get to her level? Here are my questions specifically: - Where do you single rich men hang out? Give me specifics- bars, restaurants, gyms -What are you looking for in a mate? Be honest guys, you won't hurt my feelings -Is there an age range I should be targeting (I'm 25)? - Why are some of the women living lavish lifestyles on the upper east side so plain? I've seen really 'plain jane' boring types who have nothing to offer married to incredibly wealthy guys. I've seen drop dead gorgeous girls in singles bars in the east village. What's the story there? - Jobs I should look out for? Everyone knows - lawyer, investment banker, doctor. How much do those guys really make? And where do they hang out? Where do the hedge fund guys hang out? - How you decide marriage vs. just a girlfriend? I am looking for MARRIAGE ONLY Please hold your insults - I'm putting myself out there in an honest way. Most beautiful women are superficial; at least I'm being up front about it. I wouldn't be searching for these kind of guys if I wasn't able to match them - in looks, culture, sophistication, and keeping a nice home and hearth. THE ANSWER Dear Pers-: I read your posting with great interest and have thought meaningfully about your dilemma. I offer the following analysis of your predicament. Firstly, I'm not wasting your time, I qualify as a guy who fits your bill; that is I make more than $500K per year. That said here's how I see it. Your offer, from the prospective of a guy like me, is plain and simple a crappy business deal. Here's why. Cutting through all the B.S., what you suggest is a simple trade: you bring your looks to the party and I bring my money. Fine, simple. But here's the rub, your looks will fade and my money will likely continue into perpetuity...in fact, it is very likely that my income increases but it is an absolute certainty that you won't be getting any more beautiful! So, in economic terms you are a depreciating asset and I am an earning asset. Not only are you a depreciating asset, your depreciation accelerates! Let me explain, you're 25 now and will likely stay pretty hot for the next 5 years, but less so each year. Then the fade begins in earnest. By 35 stick a fork in you! So in Wall Street terms, we would call you a trading position, not a buy and hold...hence the rub...marriage. It doesn't make good business sense to "buy you" (which is what you're asking) so I'd rather lease. In case you think I'm being cruel, I would say the following. If my money were to go away, so would you, so when your beauty fades I need an out. It's as simple as that. So a deal that makes sense is dating, not marriage. Separately, I was taught early in my career about efficient markets. So, I wonder why a girl as "articulate, classy and spectacularly beautiful" as you has been unable to find your sugar daddy. I find it hard tobelieve that if you are as gorgeous as you say you are that the $500K hasn't found you, if not only for a tryout. By the way, you could always find a way to make your own money and then we wouldn't need to have this difficult conversation. With all that said, I must say you're going about it the right way. Classic "pump and dump." I hope this is helpful, and if you want to enter into some sort of lease, let me know. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. The nice person isn't being used if he knowingly and willingly enters the relationship. It's his choice to put himself in that position. I agree to a point. But would you agree that the nice person is getting 'leftovers'? Maybe the nice person's frame of reference is slightly skewed by a lifetime of being ignored as a lesser choice? I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course. -

Ummmm...I have to kind of side with Shah on this one. Let me see if re-stating it without gender bias helps. A person is nice all of their life. They give more than they receive and they don't mind. They go to school to get an education, work hard and are generally successful. They are not flashy or 'bad', but enjoy making others smile and have a lot to give. But, the opposite sex doesn't notice. The opposite sex is looking for the show-piece SO. After the opposite sex is abused in a long series of relationships with the show-pieces, they finally realize the nice person. Now that years of bad relationships and emotional abuse has taken it's toll, the opposite sex turns to the nice person and offers the nice person the opportunity to provide financial stability, emotional support to a damaged psyche and generally pick up the pieces of a life lived fast and loose. The nice person is described by Shah as 'Plan B'. You can argue that the person I describe as 'opposite sex' has matured and is now ready for a real relationship. But really, the nice person seems to be getting used here. My experience is that nice people finish last. Maybe the gender neutral description will be more palatable than Shah's version. Maybe not. And the porn star who found happily ever after? I guess it's my personality, cultural norms, upbringing or something. To me, less miles means it's more special if shared with me. More miles means it is less meaningful when shared with me. Just my view. Glad they are happy. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. Publicly funded, state funded, single payer, etc.
davjohns replied to davjohns's topic in Speakers Corner
And...that's my point. If we all recognized that individuals are supporting the jobs of other individuals and there was no ephemeral 'state money', we might wonder, "What are those 400 lemur voyeurs doing that we really want to fund?" And again...$420 million here; $125 million there; before long, you're talking about real money.... If people wanted to see the programs on public television or supported the events paid out of the NEA, the government wouldn't have to steal my money to support them, now would they? That's how free market is supposed to work. People vote for what they want with their dollars. If they don't vote for it with money, it is supposed to go the way of platform shoes with fish in them. Some things would fly through the budget just fine. "Texas funded maintenance of the interstate system this year.", would not bother anyone. We would thank every Texan we met that year. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course. -

davjohns replied to davjohns's topic in Speakers Corner
I hate these terms. I think they attempt to pretend that money will just appear to pay the bill. The 'state' does not have a job and therefore does not have it's own money. 'Public' gets closer, but it gets to sounding like there's some vast coffers from which funds flow. And 'single payer'? Please. I once heard an idea that I found thought provoking. When we say that anyone is entitled to a dollar of tax money, we are also saying that the ten people who earned that dollar are less entitled to it. So, I would prefer a little truth in advertising. I would like to hear the people on television say, "This program cost $20 Million of YOUR money" or possibly "OUR money" or "Ed's money". Just something a bit more personal. Maybe if every bill had a little line that explained how many people's salaries it would take to fund that issue. How many Americans' income goes exclusively to fund foreign aid to Argentina? I'd like that specified in the budget where it says we're going to give these people money. IE: $10 million dollars is alloted to fund research into the sex habits of lemurs. 2000 people making $50k and paying 10% of this in taxes will work exclusively to fund this lemur sex project this year. Kind of puts it in perspective, doesn't it? Maybe some legislation could say everyone named Fred will be funding childcare to welfare recipients this year. Or maybe everyone in Indiana is paying for National Public Television this year. Vermont gets to fund the National Endowment for the Arts. On the far end, we could list the names of the people who will work to fund congressional fact finding trips to Hawaii this year or the First Lady's shopping trips. I'm just of a mind that we could find lots of things we didn't need in the federal and state budgets if we realized a simple fact: A few million here; a few million there; before long, you're talking about real money...oh, yeah...it IS real money. People just act like it's Monopoly Money. And thus...deficit spending. I know economists and political strategists will draw charts and write extensive papers about how it's not really my money and spending money you don't have is good at a macro level. I've seen them. I actually did well in those classes. But there's this little thing I call a paycheck...and it shows me where the money really comes from. Hi. I'm David. And I funded a congressional staff member who gave blow jobs to a politician in an expensive office last year. Did you fund the office or the politician? I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.
