I see ample evidence that college graduates can not communicate effectively in writing. They can not handle simple mathematical equations. They have little concept of history. In public schools, we are doing pretty well if they can read and write. But from what I see on the internet, the current crop of students lack much of the rudimentary principles of English. You want to teach them what??? Let's try to give them the basic building blocks necessary and leave out the politics, religion and debatable issues that confuse learned scholars. We're already lagging behind much of the developed world with all of these students going after soft science degrees. Do we really need to add social policy to the mix? I did some reading on this. Apparently the historical factors used to indicate global temperatures are not tracking in the last decade or so. In order to maintain that those historical factors are accurate, global warming enthusiasts just delete the data that doesn't support their theory. I think it's called, "hide the decline'. I imagine human activity is having some effect on the environment. It's just near impossible to say what that effect is or what to do about it when people are twisting facts to fit their theories. So, I popped into the forums and saw across the top that I had 0 friends....online. But my eye just caught that I had 0 friends. It reminded me of one of the facebook options which asks if I want to show my sex on my profile. I once posted a comment that I don't understand that as an option. I'm pretty sure posting those pictures would be frowned upon. I also think many of the popup windows on my computer should be re-worded. "Warning! Error 256834 has occurred in your disk registry" should really say, "Some technical thing went wrong. Don't ask questions. Just re-boot." or perhaps it should be automatic and a window you should tell you, "Something went wrong. I'm going to re-boot. Get yourself a drink while I do." Does anyone else have these stray thoughts when they see things worded in a way that seems silly or just ambiguous? Probably just me, huh? 1. The article refers to a site that captures people's reactions to the Onion when they think the stories therein are real. This suggests that the Onion tries to make their stories believable. It seems odd that you would call someone a moron for believing it. 2. I don't see any evidence that he personally posted on facebook. It is certainly possible, but public officials often have staff that do this for them. 3. I can't take your opinion terribly seriously when you start out with a title that says anyone who disagrees with your stance on a very arguable subject is a moron. Awkward wording, but I think you are agreeing with me. Whatever divides the people, will likely divide the people; in uniform and out. In the Civil War, it was not just brother against brother. Military commanders from each other knew each other intimately. Many of them trained at West Point together. They had children named after each other. It was not uncommon for them to meet under white flags and go over old times the night before they attempted to kill each other. An incredibly sad period of history. But entirely repeatable. I think it's interesting that some of the opinions here assume whatever divides the country will not divide the military as well. They seem to believe that Soldiers and Citizens are mutually exclusive. The oath of every service member is to 'support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies; foreign and domestic'. So, if there were an event that divided the citizenry, I suspect it would divide the military. Some military would see loyalists as a threat to the Constitution. Some would see it the other way.
