  1. Interesting. The current results (after my vote) are one person who is happy to pay for others, one person who is super rich (I suspect a joke), and 30 people who expect everyone to pay their own way. I'm thinking the foks who don't care to work are sleeping in and will vote later in the day. :) I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.
  2. Ummmm....we woke up in bed naked this morning....so I think we're back together. Sorry to mess up the thread. :) I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. 3. Something north of 'righteous indignation' in my book. Curious where it was when you got it back. If he saw whose it was and placed it on your desk, that's slightly less agregious. Even then, I would have placed it in your desk drawer out of view and sent you an email to let you know where I found it, what I did with it, and where I put it. At least there can be the idea that he was looking to determine ownership that way. If you found it elsewhere and he didn't say anything, he was just a snoop and way out of bounds. 4. Am I the only one that missed this? http://www.space.com/14928-space-jump-supersonic-skydive-practice.html Jump from 71k en route to 120k. Sounds like fun. Where do I sign up? 5. C'mon, guy. If you are really that thin-skinned maybe bowling would be a better idea for you. If you let internet conversation get your goat, maybe you could take up a career traveling the universe insulting every living being in it. Well, never mind. In (and this is where I have to grit my teeth) alphabetical order. I sometimes answer questions with "42". Nobody ever gets it. "Dent .... Arthur Phillip Dent?" You're a jerk. A complete kneebiter. 6. First book was brilliant. Then, they started declining. On the fifth book, I was just pushing ahead so I could finish the trilogy. 8. This is my basic point. Make getting a "voter-qualified" govt photo ID (a) very easy and (b) 100% free, and my objection will shrink to the size of Rush Limbaugh's dick. I posted earlier that the Alabama law requiring ID also provided for free ID upon request...not going to touch the reference to anyone's dinky, though. :) I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. 9. It just boggles my mind to consider someone (presume the government) pays this facility to provide for these people when we can not say who the people are. No birth certificates? No SSN? My grandfather died at the age of 86 several years ago and had these things. He worked in the mines in rural Alabama, but had ID. My father is turning 70 this month and he can not fathom anyone not being able to identify themselves with some document. Out of curiosity, I'm thinking I'll call a couple of local facilities and ask the hypothetical. I agree that the people you describe have the right to vote and that should be protected. I'm just confused on how their care if paid for if they never paid into SS, don't recieve government benefits of any sort, have no birth certificates, etc. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. 10. An interesting question. I'll give it some thought. The obvious things that spring to mind are limited/finite costs vs enduring repetitive costs; national interests vs individual interests; personal property vs footing the bill for benefits of others, etc. At first blush, I'm not entirely sure the mandate you cite would be constitutional either. It seems reasonable, but not necessarily legal. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. 11. Birth certificates and social security numbers are not valid picture IDs. And yes, many older and rural people do not have a valid copy of their birth certificate, and may have never gotten a social security number. And again...I'm not trying to be argumentative. I just don't comprehend how these people can survive. No birth certificate; no ID; no SSN...so, no filing of taxes (no SSN), no government support (no SSN or ID), no job (no SSN, no ID for the I-9)...but wants to vote. They have no income of any sort. How do they eat? How do they get to the polling site if they can't pay for a bus? It sounds we are describing the hermit / mountain man / lives under a bridge nut job and we want to make sure that person can vote. They are registered to vote??? I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.
  12. I know at least six people off the top of my head. I'm sure you are being totally honest about this. How do these people survive? Are they mental incompetents that are completely dependent on someone else? I'm not trying to be funny. I'm just having a hard time figuring out how they get medical treatment, government benefits, etc. They clearly can not get a job because they can't turn in an I-9 with the required two forms of ID. And to my second question...do we really want these people voting when they can't even get an ID for themselves? I'm just having a hard time envisioning someone who has no form of ID, but can survive and wants to vote; unless they are an illegal alien or some other category that adds nothing to the discussion. 13. Apparently not Somethings wrong here. I don't see Argentina. I've seen the women in Argentina. Miss Universe quality bodies and faces are everywhere. 14. I can't find any rules against cosmetic surgery in the Miss Universe. In fact, a former Miss Brazil was very open about the 19 procedures she had in preparation for the competition. It may vary by competition. Articles I found suggested that it's pretty common and breast augmentation is the most common form. 15. Pretty sure I heard about it. Dang. Another 'get rich quick' down the drain. :) I'm really just wondering how many of those women already have cosmetic surgery. Seems there was a discussion once that breast augmentation was authorized, but not else. Not sure. Might research it. Kind of interesting to me. How much is permitted? If anthing goes, why can't this 'guy turned gal' compete? I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. 16. I'm stuck on Jerry's argument that it's surgical team vs surgical team. I think I have the idea for a new reality show!!! Take a dozen ugly ducklings; apply the extreme makeover teams; have a beauty pageant! Winning surgical teams get great publicity. Keep the contestants below a certain income level and claim it is a charity. Tax deductions galore! Wonder if I can get a government grant for this idea??? 17. I don't recall what I used to get my kids driver's licenses. Seems like it was birth certificate and school ID or letter from the school or something. The more I think about it, the less I can believe anyone can survive without ID. You can't cash a check. Living in today's society on a cash basis would be nearly impossible for anyone. And I understand the argument that it is not a problem. However, some things are just common sense preventive measures. I helped supervise Iraqi elections. They had better protective measures than we do and they don't have any legitimate ID system. We could protect our system quite easily and refuse to by claiming it can't be proven to be a problem. I don't see any legitimate reason to NOT require ID and it's just common sense to do so. If I were to take the conspiracy theory approach, I would say there was an ulterior motive; the desire to commit voter fraud. But I'm not sure there is any ulterior motive on either side. I think it's just another silly thing some people take a stand on because someone attached the battle cry, "What about the poor?". Someone once said, "You will always have the poor." I'm not going to get too upset if 'the poor' are too lazy to get an ID to vote for someone who will give them more of my money. I know someone will see this as insensitive, but I worked my way through school through the Army and part time jobs. If you are poor in this country, there is a huge chance that you're ok with that and not interested in changing it. There are always exceptions. I just haven't met any. It's going to be hard to change my mind on this. Your personal background might make the road ahead tougher, but it does not create an inescapable 'fate'. If you can't even get an ID card for yourself, you are useless to society and maybe you shouldn't be allowed to vote for that very reason. A bit of a rant, but I really think arguing that 'requiring an ID hurts the poor' is a specious argument at best. I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.
  18. Yes and no. I agree that there really must be a better way to steal an election than to have someone go to the polls and pretend to be several other people. So, it is unlikely this is a problem. At the same time, I'm pretty sure every state provides a non-driver ID that looks like a driver's license and is perfectly viable (lack of a federal ID isn't a factor since voting is handled at the state level). I'm pretty sure those unlicensed poor people need an ID to pick up welfare checks, receive unemployement , open a bank account, apply for assistance, etc. So, preventing poor people from voting seems like an unlikely purpose for a subterfuge. I agree it is unlikely there is evidence that lack of voter ID is a substantial problem. I also doubt requiring a voter ID would present a substantial problem for law abiding citizens. Personal anecdote: as a police officer, I never stopped someone who didn't have an ID because they couldn't afford it. Some claimed to not have an ID because they had outstanding warrants, however. Edit - I checked a couple of websites to see if there was any merit to my assumptions. Seems you do need photo ID to apply for most forms of government aid and even Soc. Sec. Number. And the Alabama voter ID law provides for free ID on request. Not definitive on the matter by any means, but I just think the argument that it disenfranchises the poor is thin. 19. I've decided to disagree with this: "My wife is hotter than your wife." :) I love Jerry and Dawn Marie. Just had to poke at Jerry. 20. Wow. Can't believe he said that about you. Could really hurt business. You might want to bring an action for slander... 22. Good point. I would expect breast augmentation to be the norm in fashion, pageant, model world. Probably other things like lips and such as well. Removal of a penis (absent the typical male emotional attachment) doesn't seem as big a proceedure. I've never held cosmetic surgery against anyone. I'm a fan of breast augmentation. This one just kind of got my curiosity. Most of the trans I've seen go out of their way to move and act very feminine. Many women in today's world avoid it or at least never adopt it. Odd, since I think it gives them (women) a great advantage in life. Are the natural women in the competition afraid of losing to someone who has studied feminine grace more? 23. I once worked for a yellow dog democrat who told me he had changed his polling place to the downtown location near the office for convenience. I had to go to the courthouse on a voting day and almost voted on his behalf as a joke. I tend toward the conservative side. I knew his name, address and such. Nothing could have stoppd me. I've even joked with poll workers that I would return for another ballot after my first one. When they look me up on the paper sheet right before my eyes, I can see the names of other registered voters who have not been checked off. And with a name like David Johnson and ID to match, even ID might not stop me for voting early and often. I need ID to use a credit card, drive a car, buy a drink, fly, cross the border, get my things from the police, go to the doctor, enter the White House or most any government building...some of them polling places who reduce security on voting day. Why does it not make sense to show ID before you vote? If someone votes for me and I later show up to vote, do I get to? Do I have to show ID then? 24. Here's one - Do unto others as you would have them do unto you - I hate that one. Unworkable. I would have you all give me your money, but I'm surely not giving you mine. The correct translation of the Hebrew addage is - Whatever is harmful to you, do not do to others. That one works. More like a 'live and let live' thing.
