Ummm Baz is the best pilot ever in my, and others', opinions.

2 things for those who might not know: 1- I have survived the perils of travelling by aeroplane and not getting out (ie a total of 11 international flights, a loooooot of hangovers, foreign boys trying to pick me up, brawls in foriegn bars with US servicemen [I did NOT start it....] 4 boat trips and a trip on the TGV, and a lot of stuff that should have got me hauled into a police station....oh that's right, that happened in Paris!)

5 (number of International flights I took this weekend):1(Number of times I got to sit in the cockpit for finals and landing into Kinsford Smith International in the Navigator's seat of a boeing 777-200 YEAH BABY!!!

Very true. Codswallop! Who says they "can't" or "shouldn't"? When I was 16 I was a heck load more responsible than a lot of jumpers with a 10 years "extra" maturity. Girls mature earlier than guys and blah blah blah! I was also a heck load less reckless then than I am now, my parents recognised I was a competant human being and allowed me to jump, for that I thank them profusely. The main issue for DZ owners is liability. For me the issue is one of competancy: a switched on 17 year old may very well turn out to be a bloody lot better than an immature 23 year old who freaks out off the door and then doesn't follow the TCO/TA after opening wouldn't you agree? Age should yes be a factor but not the factor determining if someone should jump. Eh, I've been jumping for 5 years now (if you include tandem years). That's not to say I don't occasionally f*ck it up...... I don't get picked/pranked on that much at the DZ simply because I have a tendency for Freudian slips which do me in anyway! Ummmmm like in an arguement over whose jumping what gear on whose tickets...."The only thing you can jump is.....my arse!" I did my first jump at 14 my aff on my 16th bday (as is the age restriction in oz). My best mate later followed suit. She is now about to go for her AFF rating and I've got my D licence. My brother and his gf have followed suit too. 17 of my friends did jumps before they were 18, many have followed it through. If we cut the age to 18, we may lose many a possible good jumper. Actually in that you're right (the catholics being the worst versus in the content of what I'm sendin you!) I came back from the world meet and the nationals and decided sex drugs and rock 'n roll were just waaaaaaaay too much fun! I hate to be the one to say this, but no kind of punishment, however extreme will deter a true sociopath. They revel in their crimes, but spend their entire existence trying to blend in with the rest of society, so no matter how harsh the punishments, you have to remember that it can only be applied once they're caught. As for extreme punishment and torture, where do you draw the line that puts you above them when advocating or imposing that sort of brutality? Who will carry it out? An elite, govt sanctioned, squad of sadists and sociopaths?!?! Some of you will indeed be outraged by this, but I too have my perspective; and it has come after years of learning to deal with something similar. A girl I'd played with was kidnapped whilst walking home from the school bus. I'll spare you the details, but Ebony had her hands tied behind her back with barbed wire and her school back pack weighed down with wire before she was thrown in a dam, where she wasn't found for days. My Dad led one of the search parties day after day, and then this animal then helped out in the search for her body, at the bidding of his wife. He too, had young children. It takes awhile to gt past the emotion when thinking about these kinds of crimes, as its something we all fear happening, pain versus death alone (pretty scary too!) Its easy to want to stoop to the level of these animals, but its best we deal with them justly, quickly and clinically or risk lowering ourselves to their disgusting line of thinking. Just my 2 cents (and then some!)
