I grew up on a DZ and saw the hey days of jumping when it really was the case: "sex was safe and skydiving was dangerous...the days of round parachutes, front mounted reserves, static lines and cessnas (most of the jumpers at my DZ wouldn't know what a static line jump is! PLEASE NOTE I'M NOT CRITICISING SL!), wing-climbing out of ultralights, thinking 50 jumps was way experienced (), woomeras, bungies, the boycotting by tm's of drogues on tandems due to the "dangerous" threat posed by jumping them, broken backs from openings, $0.2 pack jobs, streamers to judge the wind, "Wally" being the coolest guy ever,the boycotting of microlines, PC meaning paracommander, parking the cessna in the hanger (it now houses the canteen, bar, 8-way room, freefly room, gear-up area, skysurfing room and the big screen tv!), and the week that 3 of our Islanders crashed. One into the dam (no handbrake on), one into a paddock (not at the DZ), the other on take-off with a load of jumpers. Nobody hurt in any of them! I was very scared about loosening my chest strap under canopy when it was first suggested to me. Yes, I now I do it every jump and yes, my canopy does fly better. I think your DZSO was wrong in that they did not explain why you shouldn't be adjusting your chest strap under canopy with your low amount of jump numbers. The punishment of "upsizing" a student's canopy, is not unusual in the skydiving world. I've seen it done and heard of it being done. The unjust part is that they hadn't made it clear that you shouldn't do it, and why you should be punished. Remember that as a student your first priority should be getting to the ground safely. Anything after that is a bonus. With higher jump numbers, your own gear and licences comes the freedom to try thinks out a bit more. I think you are ignorant, pathetic and insecure and I am insulted as hell by you. Many of my friends (jumpers) are gay and very few people know that they are gay, in any case, they don't care.
