The crash of 2001? Don't you mean when the dot-com bubble began to burst. Sorry the dot-com bubble began to burst in 1999 not 2001. that's very interesting. meanwhile as you stumble from tree to tree the rich are getting richer at our expense - can't end happily... Yeah, it's too bad you don't have the opportunity to make a better life for yourself, that you can't work smarter and earn more money, that you can't join that richest 1%. Oh, wait, I was wrong. You can.

"preppers" ... nutter survivalists or common sense??
Belgian_Draft replied to rhaig's topic in Speakers Corner
Keeping a stash of canned goods, etc. in case of a natural disaster is good preparation. Keeping a HUGE stash of food and enough weapons to outfit a small army = nutter...at least until the zombies attack. Then they look pretty darn smart. When i entered college I was in my 20's and in debt up to my neck. My dad was just starting his business at the same time so was in debt up to HIS neck as well and unable to help. Yet I got my engineering degree, helped my dad grow his business into a multi-million dollar operation, and started my own. Yeah, the system really sucks. All of that should have been given to me. i'd like equality of opportunity - which the rich will never accept. they like the system tilted their way. And you want the system tilted your way. The housekeeper had better have enough education to read cleaning instructions, use a cell phone, etc. The driver had better be educated enough to read road signs, read a map, maybe use a GPS, read and understand an operators manual so they can safely operate all the advanced functions on the newer luxory cars. If their employer is a high profile figure they had better be educated in evasive driving skills (NOT EASY!). Rich folk don't like educated employees? Think again, buster. Educated employess make their employer a lot more money than ignorant ones. If an employee is educated to the point he is a real threat to his employer, they are required to sign a contract agreeing not to compete with that employer while employed and for a period of time after separation, usually at least two years. Bullshit. Plain, simple bullshit. That's a cop-out line if there ever was one. The fact of the matter is that most people want everything given to them. They expect everything to come easy. But you know what? Wealth doesn't come easy but to a very rare few, maybe 10% of the wealthiest 1% inherited their fortunes. The rest worked their asses off to get where they are. You have the same chance to make it as they did. Only a small portion of people in the US are honestly limited by physical or mental issues from achieving wealth. When I had my Belgians, may they rest in peace , I would hitch them to a wagon and go out cutting wood. It was normal to have them standing just feet away from where I was running my chainsaw. Didn't bother them a bit. Funny thing was, the younger brother was deathly afraid of chipmunks and squirrels. As long as he was hitched with is brother he was ok, but when by himself.... At least 50% (+ 1 hanging chad) of the American population disagrees with you. I'm over 50, and I can't remember a president's administration more polarizing than G W Bush's. More so even than Nixon or Reagan, and they were mighty polarizing. I disagree. I feel the Clinton adminstration was far more polarizing than anything in the last 40 years. Roughly half the country loved him, roughly half hated him. There was virtually no middle ground. A lot of it was his "I know best" and "Do as I say, not as i do" attitudes. Gas welding - medium You must have forgotten that one. Quietest: Diffusion welding. Noisiest: Explosion welding (But REALLY cool! ) HAMMER: Originally employed as a weapon of war, the hammer nowadays is used as a kind of divining rod to locate the most expensive parts adjacent the object we are trying to hit.

Not to many jobs that could be discounted. House cat trainer is one that comes to mind. Rivets noisy. Welding quieter.

A bad doctor buries his mistakes. That way they don't have to admit they made one. LOL..that's funny. We have a weekly meeting set aside just to discuss our mistakes...M&M conference (morbidity and mortality conference). What we do is REAL, and most of us admit our mistakes openly. We like to improve from our own and others' mistakes. Sometimes we can't do better than we did. People get sick, and people die. But we do what we can to improve our own outcomes! Do you? Or maybe, in your line of work, it just isn't that big of a deal...lol. I have no doubt doctors discuss their mistakes among themselves. They just don't like that information made public. Maybe a scorecard should be posted in every doctors office. Categorize it: Lives saved, Lives that couldn't be saved, and Lives lost due to mistakes. Yes, the welding industry continuously strives to improve our services. And, just so you don't think my scorecard suggestion is off the wall, in many applications we are required to NDT every weld and to keep those results available for review. More than one contractor keeps a summary of those results posted for anyone to see. I am only citing the welding industry as a comparison becaue it is what I know. There are many other industries that could be used to show that doctors and surgeons are not the only ones who hold peoples lives in their hands, just the most visible. Maybe you call laying on your back in a muddy ditch freezing your ass off easy, but most people don't. Been there, done that, don't miss it. I am a business owner. That means I am on call 24/7 including holidays AND during "vacation". Pretty much but I don't know why you included prostitutes. Just because you have sheep , doesn;t mean everyone does... Whatever LOL, only a joke, I couldn't resist! Yeah, for the conditions welders have to work in, (I always wanted to learn underwater welding) BUT, they choose many years of school, and even more years of Bills, to avoid that, and I woudl run screaming from those years in a classroom! I am very claustrophobic and would never do well in an underwater welding environment, wet or dry. I also do not take well to water. no more a problem than you have with "the real world." I have a suspicion you don't find this thread nearly as funny as the rest of us. Oh, don't worry, I have no problem with the real world. But some people do have problems when it comes to conceptualizing something they have never seen before even if it would never happen and is only a hypothetical situation. And, yes, I find this thread quite amusing. I am taking all posts with a grain of salt. Especially yours.
