Those people DID get to vote, my friend. It was their own state party leaders who fucked them out of having their votes count toward the national nomination. Is that a fancy, euphemistic way of saying that the national party leaders finally got wise (it takes Dems a long time to wise up to things that are obvious to others) that if they didn't kiss the ass of these voters, they stood a good chance of telling the Democratic presidential nominee to go FUCK himself, and vote McCain to punish the party? Yeah, I think it is. You're right, they should exercise it: but why on earth would the exercise it to vote FOR the people who initially were FUCKING THEM OVER to start with?! If anything, they should now be wise to just how little the national DNC gives a fuck about them, and be finding someone else worth voting for. Why should these voters in these states now still want the Dems to win? Wasn't this debacle enough to show them two important things: that the Dems didn't care about them a few months ago (and shouldn't be believed to now) and that the Dems are an ethically bankrupt party that didn't deserve their votes in the first place back when they cast them? Face one simple fact: this turnaround doesn't really have ANY MEANING in a practical sense, and we all know that, so its only purpose is to KISS THE ASSES OF VOTERS THAT DEMOCRATS THEMSELVES DISENFRANCHISED, because like you said, without those two states' Dem voters remaining loyal (ironically, to a party that was not loyal to them) they will LOSE IN NOVEMBER. It is such a transparent vote-retention ploy, it's sickening. Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire

It's 140am, and the only thing I want is a medianoche sandwich.
birdlike replied to grue's topic in The Bonfire
Sounds like what they call a "Cuban sandwich" around here. I don't mean to rub it in, but if I leave my driveway, make a single left turn, and go about 1.5 miles, I arrive at an awesome Cuban restaurant called "Havana" that is open 24 hours! -

I was not: - running or skating "at" the dog - having my "arms raised" - moving at "high speed" I was skating south on the right side of the road, turned right (west) and was hugging the right corner (northwest). The dog was on the southwest corner property. I was never heading toward the dog. I was already proceeding westbound when the dog made its advance, so it was quartering toward me on my left rear side when I heard its barking and turned to see its approach. The dog was not only not well-trained, it was not well-minded. The owner was an idiot for leaving a yappy, aggressive dog unleashed and unpenned. People walk by there, with kids even, all the time. It's an upper-middle class clean neighborhood full of families and people who walk, jog, skate, bike, etc. You are right, it goes back to the owner, but knowing that the owner, not the dog, is the cause of multiple puncture wounds would not be of comfort to me. Don't people here understand (I'll assume you probably do) that it's reasonable for a person like me to venture out on skates with the means of protection for what is actually a very common eventuality? Where do people get the chutzpah to assert that it's an overreaction to have a defensive weapon available, knowing that dogs do indeed attack people all the friggin' time?! How many of these people you claim to have met who "carry around guns looking for an excuse to pull them out" HAVE actually pulled them out? And if they haven't, why have they been so inept at managing to find the excuses they are deliberately seeking? And if you don't know the answer, how the fuck is it that you can be claiming that they are going around looking for excuses to draw their firearms? I think you're just talking out your ass. Did you ever SEE someone you've met actually PULL a gun? EVER? So naturally, your thoughts ran to PENISES. If these were people who were not cops (whom you would have good reason to believe carried concealed when off-duty) then they are going about it wrong. There's no reason for any but a very small few people to know that a given person carries a gun. I don't tell all my friends and acquaintances. My family knows as a matter of course. My best friends know because I trust them with my life, and me theirs. Beyond that, yes, it IS a stupid ego thing to drop word that you carry. I indicated that I was prepared to -- that's why I carry the gun. For protection. Duh. I did not say -- or even imply -- that I was eager to. YOU imputed that bullshit, all on your own. The fact that what I did do was ready the baton, which was already in my hand, and not the gun -- that made a null impression on you, and you instead forced yourself to believe implications that were not in evidence. I'm sure any number of us can tell you what it's like; all you have to do is ask. But be patient. It could still happen for you. Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire

and then... My irony meter must be broken. It's reading 11. Oh, so by you, that's an "arsenal." By me, it's part of an abbreviated force continuum. Obviously, I was prepared with something that could be used with some expectation of nonlethality (even though I do recognize that a baton is to be considered a "deadly weapon" and would be by the law) before I would discharge shots at the dog. You would condemn that and characterize it as though I were walking around with an "arsenal." You'd shit your pants if you actually did see my arsenal. You have no idea how much it suprises me that I'm saying this, but I think you actually did the right thing. If you take a second to think about it, you followed my earlier advice to the letter. Good job. I realize you will refuse to recognize that fact, but maybe everyone else can see that my advice is practical. And how would dropping your baton (a very effective weapon against dogs) and pulling out your gun have helped you defend yourself? Or are you just one of those losers who goes around looking for an excuse to fire your faux-penis? You almost had me going for a moment, that your praise was made in good faith. Then you ditched that tack for the moronic "your gun must be a penis substitute" line. If I were "one of those losers who goes around looking for an excuse to fire your faux-penis," then, why--as you observed, yourself, and even praised me on--did I not take the opportunity that arose? Fuckin' stupid line of questioning you have there, where you ask me about something you just that moment had disproved. As you pointed out, I went for the less-lethal alternative (and didn't even have to use that, as it turned out) before I would have gone for the gun. Fuckin' DUH. Well, my "mannerism" was that I was fucking skating by the house on a public street, not even looking at the dog. "Furtive"? No. Nor was it furtive when I raised my ASP (though I did not extend it). That action is not what brought the dog barking and charging; it was a response to it, and whether or not that eggs the dog on, I felt it was necessary to be prepared for in case the dog was to try to bite. So much for the wonderful perception the dog has: why did it charge a person skating by? It's not like I was prowling the cellar windows of a house with a flashlight in the dark! Honest poll, I don't think so, it was an attempt to discredit the dems in the middle of an election, do you think people are that stupid that they couldn't see through it? It was a fair question about people's view of something that actually happened that's in the news and is worthy of being discussed. Democrats can't whine about it being discussed just because it's unflattering toward them. "An attempt to discredit them"? IT discredits them. Did I bring it up because I want people to see that they Dems do disgusting things and don't care about breaking even their own rules? Yes. I made no effort to conceal that -- it was bound to be obvious -- but I am not under any kind of ethical obligation to "leave it alone" simply because it makes Dems look bad before an election. The whole process is about people making candidates look either bad or good and helping voters see what they might be getting if they vote for a particular candidate. I don't know what you are complaining about. Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire

did you want a medal? stop being a candyass - if you post on SC, you're going to get criticized. That's the fucking point of this forum. Oh please. I wasn't asking for "a medal." It's just funny how selective some jerks are about picking on something, and in order to pick on it they have to PRETEND that it's all you ever do. When you disprove them, they pretend you never did. No, that's not "over my head." I know that. But my point is, how much respect is due a political organization that won't even adhere to its own clearly defined rules? What should a country expect from such people down the road? They make themselves look like a fuckin' joke, like a high school sophomore class council trying to keep order amongst themselves. Pitiful and amateurish and juvenile. Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire

Well, too late for me to change it. But I disagree that people who are not Democrat voters should be barred from caring, or not expected to have an opinion about it. I can still look at what they've done and say, "Wait a minute. Why the turnaround? They set the rule, the rule was broken, the rule-breakers were warned with plenty of notice, did it anyway, and now they're essentially being rewarded! This makes these people look like a bunch of anarchist hypocrites. 'Fuck the rules! When they're inconvenient, ignore them!' " How can we let people like this run things?! My whole POINT is, "Where is the fallout for them about having done this?"!! There should rightly be fallout! People (both sides) should be condemning this and viewing the Dems more negatively because of this shitty-judgment decision. That's what I was getting at. But at least I worded the poll fairly. We are told that we should not want execution for murderers -- that prison is adequate, from both a punishment perspective as well as a keeping-society-safe-from-them perspective. This gives lie to the latter (and also, of course, the former) point. And I don't give a shit if the guy escaped from captivity "only" because he was kept in a county jail and not a federal Supermax. The fucking authorities are supposed to make sure that WHEREVER they are keeping him, they are KEEPING him! If they allowed him to escape because they failed to recognize how much of an escape risk he was, that's part of the problem with the ineptitude of the criminal confinement system, and all that really matters is that he escaped. If criminals escape confinement because the prison is not high-security enough, or because the system didn't make the correct decision about what kind of facility in which to house him, does that matter? It's still a sign that the system cannot truly "make sure" that these guys never "get back out onto the streets." Spirits fly on dangerous missions Imaginations on fire
