I actually looked into that. It is not easy. A zoning nightmare. A few guys wanted to build one here. They couldn't get anywhere in the City to build it. Actually had plans to build one on a barge. I still dont see how that is "do-able." A barge? Doesnt it seem like that would move around to much. Theres some kind of a loophole missouri about river boat gambling. So the smart guys built a casino on a barge No engines anchored ir real good and put in some kind of a berm to seperate the "river boat casino) from the river. Don't gamble, never went on one but they are around maybe. Wave action not sure idf the is a issue. The stbility of the barge migh be doable with spuds driven into the river bed, (Think piling) If theres a loophole and enough money, I think a good lawyer can make it work. IMO neigbors aree a pia unless you luck out. Then they will move and you'll have to train the new neighbor. Hi Capt In a competitive enviroment how long can a DZ offer $90 tandems, and low ball AFF $$ to steal customers before they go broke. I suspect deep pockets can get some peeps from up north to haul the baggage. So if the koals don't want to work in that negative enviroment and the added safety risk . Someone will. Hi Sparky We live in the PNW the DZ was located in the sticks. They also had experienced tree climbers and all the gear spur's belts etc, Basically they were prepared to do their own rescue. We're talking 100' trees and lots of them. Back in the bay unless a person bounced most injuries were simple broken legs, ankles etc. No cutting of rigs jump suits and all that shit. We took that shit off and took the jumper to the hospital ourselves. Dr asks what happened, Fell out of a tree. Now with the broken pelvis's, backs necks etc A ambulance and chopper are SOP. Back in the day Jumping rounds wasn't that bad as long as a jumper wasn't a real big boy. The walk back to the DZ deal with it or don't jump. One Jump Wonder

Hi Mutumbo I've never been around any of that stuff. I don't have any training and don't need to watch the show. No reason to be a lookie loo. The most i've done is run to the closest house, shop etc and yell call 911, call 911. While waiting for the ambulance out in the country I've walked to the road to make sure the ambulance doesn't go to the wrong house. We've gotten a few bills for ambulance service from the local FD. OLD is a bitch The bill was twice what my insurance would pay. I just called the chief's staff. Wined and was told no sweat wait for the second bill than write a letter saying we couldn't afford to pay what our insurance wouldn't cover. One Jump Wonder

Hi Captain When SDC opened next to Z-hills. BR and his partners offered a lot of freebee's to give the fun jumpers a real incentive to go there. I expect if BR moves to Deland he will undercut the existing DZ's prices or offer other incentives. Tandem price wars? maybe Cheaper lift tickets or extra altitude? Maybe Remember back in the day when there was a gas station located across the street from ea other one station undercut the competion. then the competition undercut the other guy. IMO The safety issue isn't worth saving a couple of bucks for the experience jumper and delands loyal customers. But the tandems and AFF What do they know. Thats where the real money is. Quite right! The extras showed up because they were bored/saw it as an opportunity to get some training, even if just by watching others do it. The guy that got rescued should charge the city for providing the training opportunity. Hi Devil Just what I was thinking If they wanted to they could have just used the "rescue" as a training exercise. Now that done the real deal will they still do the scheduled training exercise next ........so that they can keep current. Lesson learned . Good deals go fast on craigs list. I supect either the real owner went and got it or a bottom feeder bought it and might keep it or sell it on Ebay. There still maybe a hot sheet of all the reported stolen gear and their serial numbers. Some riggers used to keep a eye out the first time they pack a rig. "Dude where did you get this container it's been reported stolen" Stealing and buying & sell stolen gear used to be a big no no. Amost "Back in the day" pre computer I was able to track my gear from KC to Fort bragg via the grape vine. Just gave the dude a call told him I knew he had it, who he bought it from and that he knew it was stolen when he bought it He sent the gear back quickly and even paid for shipping One Jump Wonder

Yup....and thank God the gear is lighter and the jumpsuits are tighter! Lets not forget the lighter weights so everyone gets a faster climb rate. Please don't agree with me A couple of month's a sweet young thing with a screen name to match asked what appeared to be a very innocent question. Something about She couldn't remember what the DZ told her to wear for her first jump that happened to be in the winter. I tried to give her a reality check. Say what you can't remember what cloth's to wear in the winter. What the hell are you going to do when you have a mal and your got 5-10 seconds to do your EP's act together, or your going to die. The dogs single and married cam out of the woodwork I immediatly got flamed big time, and the sweet young thing was a instant hit by the dogs and the folks working in the industry. After the first couple of posts I just LMAO and never looked back. I remember back in the day when the first time a single babe showed up at the DZ. On her first jump she landed out like everyone else. The only difference was 1 dog was carrying her helmet,another dog was carrying her belly wart, and the third dog daisy chained her lines and carried the main back to the DZ for her. She loved "jumping" for about 2-3 month's. Then she left and we got our reguler pilot back. The guy's wife grounded him until she left. The pilot was old and just wanted to fly the plane. He even thought he was the king of his castle. When he came bqck I asked him about the king thing. The queen allowed the pilot to be king until there was a disagreement about a single women on the DZ. She reminded him how much he had to lose in a divorce (a lot) so he stayed in his castle like the queen told him. OTOH SDC and Z-hills worked out of the same airport etc and it basically worked no one died, maybe some go arounds due to conflicts on jump run.
