freefalle replied to xtravrtsoul's topic in The Bonfire
I've been riding off and on for 20 years, my current ride is a 2008 harley road king. -
I considered Wes a friend and a mentor. He taught me a lot about shooting video, equipment and just about life. I got to spend alot of time with him in his shop, and I will miss him. Wes was a good man.

I get nervous when Im sitting next to the door while it's open cause I'm afraid I'm going to drop my camera helmet out of it.....

I've seen Wes switch for use with Servo. Ingenious device. I think its a great option and I'm planing on picking one up in the future. Flip the toggle, it's that easy.

great, prices just went up!!! lol, congrats

Have you asked around at the tunnel, they have great instructors there....

Manual or auto focus? AI servo or steady shot? In shots 55 and 57 the tandem pair were not "moving" and were in a "stable position" allowing for better focus in the other two photo the pair was exiting and their speed increasing as well as that of the camera flyer. In addition, I see sun spots in both of these photos perhaps the camera was searching for focus.... I'd be curious to know what your focus settings were perhaps that was part of your problem. Chuck

body position, line dump, slider not positioned properly all come to mind. Its easy to blame body position, but it sounds like it more of a issue with the pack job. Spectre's aren't known for bad openings, generally quite the opposite. How many jumps does he have on the canopy? what conditions are the lines in? That may be a factor too. Chuck

attn doctors and or people with appendix removed
freefalle replied to mxcale's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I would not recommend skydiving this weekend. I'm fairly sure none of the doctors I work with would clear you to jump one week post-op. The surgery you had is minor, and chances are you would be fine.. That being said are you willing to chance the risk of bleeding? I hope you heal quickly. Chuck Bryan Registered Nurse -
In response to hparrish I heard this event was pretty lame. Most of the organizers bailed because their expenses were'nt covered and they were expected to pay both the registration fee and for their jumps. I saw organizers there, I flew camera on big ways with Chuck Akers most of the weekend. He had to go Saturday because of a family emergency. I jumped with F.F. organizers all day Saturday The regulars at Raeford were being strong armed into paying for the right to pack and set up tents at their own DZ. I won't comment on this, because I wouldn't know what the hell I was talking about. The Pitts Bi-Plane, Hot Air Baloon, and Casa were non shows. It was announced that the bi-plane wasn't coming before this event started, sucks but people knew it wasn't going to be there. Hot Air balloon well that was there, I talked to several people who jumped out of it Helicopter yea that was there, I jumped out of it Casa-- well yea that sucked, it broke but shit happens. (Again I don't know the truth) however, I was told that the owner of the Casa offered to send a replacement aircraft (a king air or another otter) and was told not to bother. Although I am unable to verify the facts I was told that it was believed that the DZO told the aircraft owner not to send the plane so that theirs could keep flying Again, Thats just what I was told and I'm not going to get into a he said/she said debate with anyone So why if there were little to no organizers and the fleet that was promised was not there was there still a $55 registration fee. My biggest complaint about this event was the wait time to get on a load. I personally though it ludicrous to be told gear up and bring manifest your tickets, then when you got to manifest you were told it would be about 40 minutes before you boarded. I was told that policy was established by the DZ. It would have been a good policy it there were enough aircraft there so that you weren't standing around waiting for a plane for 40 minutes I must agree with you a registration fee of 55 dollars was high given the wait times for loads Friday and Saturday were pretty bad. This event sounds like it was weak, glad I stayed home. I also heard this event had nothing to do with and was not organized by Raeford Owners or Staff. Just to set the record straight there. You know, blame is going to be past by people as to why this event wasn't as good as it could have been the reality is it really makes no difference. I'm glad I went, I made good skydives, I met a bunch of really cool people, reunited with some old friends. Was the event everything I expected, NO but I'm not mad about it.... Chuck Bryan

yea, I've had the same thing happen once. I don't think I would intentionally do a cross country with a tandem....

Does anyone use a quantum pack for there flash?
freefalle replied to freefalle's topic in Photography and Video
Thanks guys, I'll add one of these to my shopping list. I'm picking up a couple of more lenses I want the canon 2.8 70-200L and the sigma 50-500. That should A) break be for a while and B) be everything I need to do what I want for now. Thanks for the advise Chuck -
Does anyone use a quantum pack for there flash?
freefalle replied to freefalle's topic in Photography and Video
I just picked up a 580ex2. I am considering getting a quantum power pack or something similar to provide fast recycle times. However, I'm not sure what to get, I see several on the market varying in price etc. Anybody have any advice? Thanks Chuck -
so I picked up my d50 yesterday, I got the stock lens with it becuase for a kit lens its really not that bad of a deal and the test shots I took with it were pretty impressive. I also ordered a 580ex flash a sigma 17-70mm 2.8-4.5 and a sigma fixed 28mm 2.8 lenses. Im going to order the 70-200 2.8L series lens in august when I save up some more money. All in all I'm pretty happy with the camera, I need to get with lazlo to find out about the adapter so I can jump with it.

anyone have "shake" issues with the cx100 video?
freefalle replied to freefalle's topic in Photography and Video
I changed the settings today, and jumped this camera again today. The shaking was GREATLY reduced but still present. I think as suggested, the problem is coming from the helmet, I think I'm going to try to top mount my still camera on top, it's currently mounted inverted from the top plate and I think that may be the problem, I'm not sure. I think the next step will be to switch to a cookie box rather than the quick release mount I'm currently using. I think the box will do a much better job of keeping the camera still in the even the play is resulting from the Quick Release mount.... I don't know I guess it's a matter of trial and error.... Any thoughts???
