I havent had too much experience with buying gear through the mail but I have heard of other people that have and I believe this is what was suggested. Find a DZ or gear store that is willing to act as a third party, have the person you want to buy the gear from send the gear their to be inspected. If its what you want after its inspected give the DZ or store the money and they can send the seller the cash if its not what you expected, at least pay the shipping cost to have it returned to the seller. That may not be exactly how it should work but its a thought. good luck I hope you find what you want.

before I get flamed: yes I only have 70 jumps no I dont intend to start jumping a camera until I have about 100 more jumps. But Ive run in to a little extra cash so Im starting to put the pieces together Ive got a Hawkeye helmet that I got used and a PC 100 that I just picked up. I dont know a whole lot about 35mm still cameras so Im looking for some recommendations. The helmet I bought already has a remote switch so I can activate the shutter with a hand held button. Id like a good quality camera but I dont have a lot of money to spend, Im hoping to use it to photograpgh tandems and such eventually. thanks for your help

Just wanted to give the girls at Merlin some positive comments. I finally got my shoulder to heal up and got back in the air last week, was a little shaky on the landing and kinda slid it in. Not a big deal until I noticed I tore mu jump suit. Its not a Merlin suit and its maker went out of business. Not knowing what to do I took it over to Merlin anyway and asked if they could take a look at it. It was ready and as good as new the next day I couldnt even tell it was damaged. If your looking for a good suit, my .02 contact Merlin~!

I tend to agree with the last post, the fact that you skydive does not affect your fitness as a parent. Your skydiving does not put your child in harms way. your future Ex is reaching for the proverbel straws. However, you think you and your lawyer may want to do to reach a compromise is put a stipulation in the divorce decree, that you will obtain and maintain a life insurance policy which will pay out in the event you die skydiving. Im assuming in the event of your passing that your future-EX will have custody of the juvenile child therefore make him benificary of said policy. The Aforementioned stipulation will deter him from declaring a financial burden. Just a thought. Good luck on the new beginning your life.

Dumpster, I think when it comes to having a relationship with someone who doesnt just, its all relative to how understanding she is that you need to jump. It also depends on how independent she is. If your girfriend can do her own thing on the days you go out to jump ie go out with her friends, spend time doing things she enjoys, it will work out okay. If, while your at the DZ jumping, shes sitting at home, eventually the thought is going to enter her mind that she is less important than your skydiving activities. subsequently your pager/cell phone is going to be burnt up with her calling asking when are you comming home. Its all about communication, if you two can be honest with each other about whats important and come to a compromise about your own private time then it will work if you cant then its eventually going to get nasty. My personal opinion, I will not date a girl who does not or who is not intrested in skydiving. It didnt work for me. Take care and BE HONEST with each other

I have to agree with the masses here. Im the father of a two year old son. I stopped jumping for a while after he was born because everyone told me it was the "responsible" thing to do. It was the worst period of time in my life. Skydiving changes you, the friends you will make in the skydiving community will change you and once you start (which you already have by doing tandems) youll never be able to stop. You know not the day nor the hour or the means by which God or your higher power will call you home do not give up your dreams of skydiving, youll look at life in a whole new way. be careful forever but get your ass in the air!

well, after much thought I decided to get the hell off my job. Ive always wanted to be a pilot so Im doing it. The student loans are complete, the money will be here Monday and Im starting. Its going to be a long road to my future but at least it will be my chosen path and for that I am happy. For anyone who is curious Im attending Phoenix East Avation in Daytona and going to go through the program for commerical pilot and on to ATP when I have enough hrs. in. Starting over is a little scary but was jumping out of an airplane the first time I did it. I know there are a few commerical pilots on here, any advise would be welcome.

after the first 48 hrs. Heat wont do much good. Use ice 15 minutes at a time as tolerated. You can alternate Tylonol and motrin every 2 hrs as directed. The Tylonol will help with the pain the motrin will help with the inflamation. If the pain persist longer than a few days consult your doctor. Good luck

I have to agree with the majority. Get some canopy control coaching. Deland has an excellent program. for 25.00 a jump you get coaching and a video of your landings. Ive had a couple of downwind landings, they suck. I lifted my legs at the waist and just kinda slid it in. was pretty but I walked away. Good luck.

Update on a missing Deland Skydiver. As of approx. 2330 hrs all rescue efforts had been suspended until approx 0700hrs to find the missing Deland Skydiver. His name is David Hoven he is approx. 70 years old, he is a familiar face around skydive deland he is a hell of a nice guy. Gods speed David. Ladies and gentlemen, Please do me a favor, I know and work with most of the Police AND Fire Fighters involved in this search and rescue effort. PLEASE do not bad mouth them. They are hard working professionals who will do there best to find David. I dont know shit about what you do for a living therefore I will not judge or attempt criticize decisions you or people in your career field make. Give me the same courtesy. This will not bring David home safe and it pisses people off. As stated in a previous post David was on a load at approx. 1600hrs he was making a hop n pop at approx 5000 feet. No one on the load or on the DZ can positively state wether or not David ever got under canopy. As a 2330 hrs the search grid had been significantly narrowed down and crews are hopeful tomorrow will bring closure to this incident

okay folks I usually just kinda lurk on here but I need to vent! Some of you know me most of you dont. I live in Florida and I work 3rd shift as a police officer. yea I know some of you dont like cops and youve got good reasons too. Sometimes I dont like cops either. But Im fair honest and hard working. Tonight, I pulled over a drunk driver on a motorcycle He almost hit some kids walking down the street. When I asked him to get off his motorcylce he tried to take off. I grabed him in an arm hold to try to stop him, he still took off dragging me before I was able to pull him off the bike. I am now the proud new owner nerve damage and probably a torn rotator cuff. Im out of work for days and probably looking at surgery and then Ill be out for weeks. I work 70 to 80 hrs a week to provide for myself and my son. even if workmans comp pays my salary Im still out all my over time money, money I need to get by and to pay bills. WTF am I going to do??? and the worst part of this, is this asshole will get a slap on the wrist and hell get to go on about his life, yea hell have some minor inconveniences but his bills will still be paid and his family will be provided for. I on the other hand am looking at ALOT of lost money, surgery, pain and loss of the enjoyment of skydiving for God only knows how long. Ya know, Im well aware of the risks of my job but this is bullshit and the fact the the judicial system in our country is so easy on offenders who hurt other people is a slap in the face. Guys I know some cops are dicks but if you ever get the chance, do a ride along with your local police department and see what we have to endure to ensure the safety of others I think youll have a new view of police officers. As for me, Im in pain it sucks, and within a month Im going to be so far behind on my bills Ill never be able to get out of the whole Ill be in. All because I didnt want some drunk asshole to kill someone..... thanks for letting me feel sorry for myself. Blue Skies
