  1. I always love going to Sebastian, Its a great DZ with good people, you'll have alot of fun and you will be trained by solid professional instructors. have fun
  2. what settings were you using on the camera, i.e, auto, sports mode etc?
  3. Gabe, I remember saying goodbye to you in Jax before you shipped to California, but I never thought it the last time our paths would cross. My young friend, your life had just barley started. You brought so much to those around you, Your jokes, your kind spirit and your true love of skydiving, and the pride you had for your family, you will be missed. Your passing is resting heavy on my head and on my heart today. I will miss you. Thanks for being my friend Gabe, I am better for having known you. Fly free fly fast and fly hard Gabe, just how you lived your life. http://www.10news.com/...13708836/detail.html
  4. It depends on the tandem master, I believe the USPA recommends that anyone jumping with a tandem be a tandem instructor or aff instructor. I personally am pretty particular about who I will let lurk my tandems, I need to know them and know their skill level in order to be comfortable enough to do it, I can pretty well assure you that with a skydiver with 38 jumps, is not going to lurk a tandem with me. I don't mean to sound like an ass but I just wouldn't feel comfortable with it. Enjoy your progression, enjoy improving your skill there will be plenty of tandems for you to lurk in the future
  5. I keep my iso at 100 switching to 200 at sunrise and sunset and 400 on night jumps I use TV ranging between 200 and 500 depending on ambient light.
  6. The reason the flash is comming up in the modes you describe is because the camera is determining the need for added light so it is activating the flash. In order to prevent this and still get the shot you want you are going to have to use the TV mode or AV mode and the proper setting, I usually use the TV mode and set the camera to a slower speed, the problem with that is that it may not be enough and your photos may come out blurry or not come out at all. My recommendation is to play more with your TV setting and wind out what is going to work for you. Your other option is to get an external flash and add that to the mix and go from there. feel free to drop me a PM maybe I can help you more.
  7. As stated your earnings are largely dependent upon where you are located, do you live in an area where they run the DZ 12 months a year, ie Florida? Are you willing to move? Are you will to be a transient, meaning summers in one part of the country and winters in another? Are you able to be without work for weeks at a time due to crappy weather? Are you willing to get other ratings (aff instructor) or fly camera to supplement your income? Most importantly what is an acceptable income for you, Are you looking to make 70 grand a year, its not going to happen in this industry, can you get by on 20 ish grand a year you MAY be able to do that.
  8. follow your emergency procedures, cut away and go to your reserve. I don't think with 30 jumps (AND THATS NOT A JAB AT YOUR JUMP #'s) that you have enough experience to land with rear risers, besides that, depending on how large your canopy is you may not be able to flare it with rear risers, I jumped a triathlon 220 for a long time, and I felt that canopy was a real bitch to flare with the rears. I did break a brake line on it once, my response was a reserve ride. just my .02
  9. Just about anything in the medical field is in demand now. I have been in the "medical field" off and on for the last 15 years. Im and RN in ICU and make more money now then I ever have. Most of the RNs and Rad techs I know make "good" money but the ones that make GREAT money either travel or work a shift or two a week of over time. I love what I do right now, there's things that suck about every job but I enjoy taking care of my patients and I enjoy the challenges of ICU. I also like knowing when ICU gets boring I can go to the ER or any place I want to. Its also nice to know that at the end of the week I'm going to have enough money in the bank to go out and buy my son a new pair of shoes without worrying about not being able to pay a bill because I spent extra money. It's cool to finally have cash in my savings account too. There are a handful of jobs you will always be able to get no matter how bad the economy gets Teacher--- kids always gotta go to school cop--- people always gonna break the law medical--- people always gonna get sick bar tender--- people always gonna drink
  10. I dont regret ant of my tattoo's each of them represents a period in my life or a personal belief and they are significant to me. I have worked in "professional" jobs for the last 15 years so there for I have my tattoo's placed where they can't be seen in my work attire. I'm currently working on the design for my next tattoo.
  11. Yea right about the time he starts freeflying....
  12. I think that every one of us on here has gone through the exact same thing you are lamenting over. When I first started shooting video and stills, from time to time I would just give them away, until one of the video guys at the DZ looked at my work and said "your work quality has reached a level where you need to start charging for it" From time to time people still say "hey can you email me that picture" and I politely remind them that I well my photos and video to offset my cost of gear and training. My prices aren't outrageous but there what I have set. Perhaps you might want to get business cards made up, when someone asks you for one of the prints hand them a card with the prices on it and your email address, tell them to let you know which one they want to but and have them email you their address so you can send them the print or make arrangements to drop it off to them. It amazes me they number of people who will say dude were "friends" I ant believe you wont just let me have that picture. I usually respond you are friends with your packer right, try asking them for a free pack job, hell your friends with the dzo too right, try asking him for free jump tickets.,,,,,
  13. I've worked as both a TI and a camera flyer, in either position, If I am given a tip by a customer, I always ask the camera flyer or TI if the customer tipped them, if they did not I give them half the tip I was given. The TI and the camera flyer both worked to make that a good experience for the customer, they both deserve a share in the gratitude rendered by the customer. It is nice when you have a TI who puts the extra effort in to helping make the video and stills something the customer will enjoy.
  14. it is the responsiblity of the tandem instructor and the dzo to ensure the qualifications their camera flyers. The USPA is not a regulatory agency which means they have no "enforecement" powers so many times I read post about the "uspa needs to...." in reality, these post need to read the "DZO owner needs to...." Threads have been posted in the past about skydivers fearing FAA regulation of this sport, and the response has been "skydivers police their own and the USPA assist in that" Skydiving is a hard sport to regulate when the overseeing agency can only make recommendations and cant enforce rules because they don't have enforcement authority. theoretically as long as you have a tandem rig a medical certificate ( because the FAA requires it) and a place to jump that rig, you dont even have to have a tandem rating because there is no law that says you have to have a tandem rating. flying a camera works the same way, right off aff, got the money for a hemlet and camera's ? the only thing stopping someone from flying that camera on a tandem is the DZO and the tandem instructor because theres no LAW or enforceable regualtion saying they cant do it. SO who is truly responsible for the safety of those in the air the DZO and the Tandem instructor because they are the only one who can actually prevent and inexperienced person from flying that camera where they shouldn't be.
  15. Three years of sacrifice, studying, being broke, stress, and aggravation paid off today. I got my results and I passed my RN board exam. Yea, you are damn right I'm proud. Thanks to everyone who encouraged me. I am grateful.
  16. I am taking sitting for my state board exam for my RN license in 2 days. I'm pretty nervous, I pretty sure I am ready but obviously a lot is riding on this exam (my job) so if you've go a minute I could use your prayers. Thanks Chuck
  17. Rest easy in heaven chief warrant officer Yoakum. You have done your time in hell. May God speed in easing the pain of your family and friends.
  18. I've got a fire fly camera suit, I'm very happy with the quality and the time it took to get it delivered. you might want to give them a call. Good luck
  19. you can probably shoot mike an email or give him a call through CPS in Deland, check their web site cpsworld.com for the phone number
  20. heal well my friend, I'm glad you are okay. I'll see you in Sept.
  21. If you don't NEED wings to slow you down, which it sounds like you don't, don't use them. Someone told me along time ago when I first started flying camera two things, learn to fly camera without the wings first. learn to fly your body and then add wings. Some people who start flying camera the same time they add wings to the situation, will become dependent on the wings and "hang" on them instead of using them to just slow down a but. I know a lot of really good camera flyers who don't use wings. If you don't need them don't use them. It sounds to me like you have to overcome the issue of floating away from what you are filming not sinking out under it. Either way enjoy yourself and be safe.
  22. I agree about changing the hardware, over time some hardware has been know to start slipping.
  23. depends on the state you live in, in Florida, if your vehicle is towed for any reason, you are responsible for the bill. In Florida, the two company can actually place a hold on your vehicle registration, so for example you bought a new car and went to go register it, DHMSV would not allow you to register the vehicle until the tow bill was paid. now, your state may different.
  24. if you do a search there was a pretty heated thread about handi-cam video's personally, Im not a fan of them, I don't like the results as a TM I don't like flying with a camera on my wrist. Maybe I could get used to it, but I don't ever think I would like it.
