  1. Oh you mean the static dischargers in case of lightning located on the arms and legs of RW suits............ Thats totaly true.........
  2. Video people do not need ratings, but they do need to be tested on their flying and Spotting somehow. Can't tell you how many times i have crawled out of the plane looked down with my tandem student and smiled at the video flyer as I crawled back inside for a go around. And all joking aside if I see a video flyer dump in my face right after I pull the drouge release.........ah man....that's all bad. There should be some sort competency quiz. I think we call em "vidiots" instead of "video geeks" Man I'm thirsty for some air and some brew......... Seb
  3. Yeah I just remembered. You need about 100 video jumps to do videos of AFF. And I think that the Tandem requirements are manufacturer recomended(aren't they?). At our DZ we got Eclipse Tandems Rigs (500 jumps minimum) and Vectors (I don't know what the requirement is) Seb
  4. At our DZ there are some requirements to be video flier. I think for AFF the requirements are not that tough, but to video tandems you need 500 jumps. Ultimately it is up to the JM. Like if you have a video flyer always climbing down your drouge on exit you might not wanna jump with that person. I support ratings for video flyers, but occasionaly you get people that are way ahead of the power curve and you just gotta bend the rules let em fly................. Man I am thirsty for some air and some brew..........
  5. Screw practicality...... It's all about looking good......... Teva's in the summer Airwalk in the winter Man I'm thirsty for some air and some brew.... Seb
  6. 2 total: 1.Took a 260lb tandem one time. Broke 4 lines. Spinning wildly with half the thing inflated. Funny thing was the canopy was supposed to be grounded end of that day to be relined. 2.Spinetto Damn I'm thirsty for some air and some brew......... Seb
  7. "has some of the lviing brewers yeast still in it (it's not filtered or pasteurized). Brewers yeast is a health food!" That would make the plane smell interesting for the others on the way to altitude. Doesn't yeast make you fart?!? See maybe they serve watered down beer so you you don't get beer farts on the way up............ Damn i'm thirsty for some air and brew..............
  8. Thats good you offer that. I don't know why we don't do it here in Monterey. We just don't. How many tandem jumps do students do in the TAF? How much is the $ diff. (AFF vs. TAF)
  9. Don't go and get on a big way(probably people you havn't jumped with in a while wil be itching to do something"fun" for your return).......keep it small.....pull high and land softly. All those initial nervous feelings you get when you first jumped in your life will be there again........
  10. I am basically looking for the best syllabus out there to train the FJC and all the indidvidual levels. Getting through the AFFCC course was a learning experience, and teaching TLO's and all that, but not enough actuall info to train properly. The SIM is to scattered to teach right out of it.
  11. "but it sure won't stop them from slugging it down like a bunch of alchie's fresh out of rehab" Exactly. Beer was all gone before the night was over. One of the things that was tough was that I was one of the JM's and before the jump the student kept saying bud light and corona and I kept telling him "NO". It just dawned on me that he already bought it before the jump. I should be cleared! Should have made him repeat level 7 too.
  12. I was just thinking about last weekend and seeing two people graduating the AFF program. Each went to the store to get their case of beer and when they came back #1 had a case of Sierra Nevada and #2 had a twelver of Bud Light and a twelver of Corona. Well immediately experienced skydivers were enraged. Skydiver #1 was on a ten way speed star his first jump (just kidding) and #2 will be doing solo's the rest of his skydiving carreer. I think it's the responsibility of the JM to teach good beer responsability myself. Is it common for DZ's to have high standards of when it comes to beer? I think it might be a good idea on the USPA DZ guide to maybe even list the preferred beer of the DZ so as not to get stuck doing solos all the time. Bored at work. Thirsty for air and a brew......
  13. Some people come ou to the DZ strictly for the ride (Tandem). You'd be wasting your time trying to teach em anything. I've seen people in the AFF program get burn out cause there not having fun. All the jumps are just work. So you have to have at least one screw around back-flip out the door don't worry about pulling jump. I have never seen anyone on the west coast doing an AFP program. S/L Definately if your in the Northwest cause of clouds 360 days a year. I would be for at least one Tandem Jump before the AFF though cause flying in a pattern and canopy control just are as difficult as freefall. In freefall you got JM's - why not at least once or twice under canopy with a JM as well. But no we strictly AFF in Nor Cal. Sebazz.....
  14. Most exellent sir. I thank you very much. I will definately give credit were it's due. It's so expensive to start skydiving and if you give good instruction on the ground the less level repeats yuo will see. Thanks Blue skies! Seb
  15. I don't understand the "comercial sensitivities" I just had a student this weekend that did her first AFF jump with us then her second in Zepherhills. She said they were unfamiliar with our exit fo instance(though apparently they worked with it and kept it consistant). She said the student training manuals are pretty well done there. Should have had her smuggle one back to me. But this is why it would be nice to find a page or forum were we could get some ideas or offer some. I will check out the sights on the most recent reply.
  16. I hope I am on the same topic as you. I too am always looking for materials regarding skydiving intstruction. I would love to see several versions of first jump courses that different DZ's have. That would be a great site also to have forum that lets instructors give thier ideas or tips on training students. Let me know what you find...............
  17. Yeah I've had that dream several times. I just keep burning in, getting up and dusting myself off. I've even landed on my feet before. I've never been hurt in a skydiving dream. Ahhhhh it's Friday and I'm day dreaming of big ways and fast swoops........
  18. You know I thought I had a great year and then I realized after reading all these posts my year was pretty boring. I need to drink more, suck nipple, dump lower, hook it harder, drive faster, and dammit drink more!! Can't wait to finish the year strong with the few weeks left. Jumps on me!! always wanted to say that, but it means nothing. Sebazz.......
  19. If your seeing mals such as blown out cells, broken lines, etc. it's the gear. I've seen some DZ's using really old gear and stuff like that happens a lot..... If Tandem JM's are cutting away from things like line overs or totals it's the packing.... And if everyone's cutting away from simple line twists over and over, it's cause they're friends with the rigger and wanna give him some more work or there pulling the druoge release in a spin..... Over all though tandem rigs get jumped much more than your average rig and the people packing them sometimes are under pressure to get em ready for the next load and there a lot more complicated than your average rig too.... I have only seen a few tandem mals at the DZ the past year. Usually packing stuff. Seb...
  20. This year F'n rocked.... Met so many new and cool skydivers reinforcing the fact that we have such a cool family. Cruised up to Washington over Labor day weekend and went to Kapowsin (probably one of the greatest groups of skydivers anywhere). Got an AFF-I rating which was one the funnest challenges ever. And well just jumped my ass off!! Lookin forward to the same next year and maybe getting out to the east coast see whats happening ou there.........
