  1. You've seen me in person Andy. I'm not intimidating enough to work for them. Maybe I can torture someone to death with my jokes though...
  2. I heard there's a lot of Russians there. I bet you can get a damn good bowl of cabbage soup there. I actually prefer to stay away from the 'Brighton Beach' Russian crowd. And it's not cabbage soup you uneducated simpleton. It's borscht!
  3. Where did you grow up? And yes Brooklyn is my #1 destination. Partially because of cost, partially because I know many people there, and partially because I'm Russian.
  4. ...not the airplane kind ya fools. I'm relocating to NYC to live and work. So far, I've been living in a comfortable zone in CT, teaching full time and enjoying 4+ months vacation out of the year. But I realize that professionally I'm not evolving and I'm slowly plateauing in my work. So, I'll be relocating to NYC in June regardless of whether I have a job or not. I'm starting to job search early April, but having a little bit of money saved up, I'm moving regardless. Comfort zones and 4+ months vacation be damned! Any words of advice?
  5. They still have a Vector II rental rig at Skydive Deland? You're sure it was a V II, and not a V III? Some of the older or dorkier V III's would be hard to tell apart from a V II if the riser covers were magnetic. I mean it would be easy for some people to tell them apart, but if you're not well versed in RWS (UPT) rigs, you might mistake one for the other. Who was the rigger that told you this, or what name were you given to get this work done? As far as I know, there is no official connection between Skydive Deland and UPT. It is the closest DZ to the factory, and they may use it for test jumps, and the UPT staff may jump there (on and off the clock), but outside of that, they are seperate businesses, and one cannot speak for the other. Thanks Dave. The rental rig did say Vector II on it. Once again, I could be wrong. Maybe I misunderstood, maybe the staff member was mistaken, but whatever the issue in communication was, it's still frustrating.
  6. He was representing UPT and speaking on their behalf, which he assured me of. Sorry, I should've made that clear in my first post.
  7. Yes I do know. He said that the master rigger at Deland did the mod to the rental rig they had, and that's whose number I was giving to call and ask any questions.
  8. Quick back story: Went to Deland last August, and had my Vector II with me. Asked them if I could get the Velcro on the riser covers replaced while I was there as it was wearing out, to which one of the AFF Instructors/riggers said "we have a magnet mod for the riser cover, why not do that?" He then proceeded to show me a rental Vector II they had with the same mod and assured me it's approved by UPT. So, I said why not, and bought the mod for $20 dollars. Couldn't get it done there because of time, but took the number of the master rigger there and was told I could call with any questions and send it to him when I was ready. Got busy at work after I got home from my trip and figured I'd send it in sometime later. Fast forward to a boogie in Florida at the end of January. Saw a UPT rep there demoing rigs and asked him if I could send my rig back with him. He said they can't do that (which I understand and didn't have a problem with it) but he'd call the shop at Deland to find out how long it take to get it done and ship it back to me in CT. Comes back and tells me that the magnet mod was never approved by UPT in the first place and they can't do that. I'm not disappointed with the fact that I'm out of $20 dollars, because now I have 2 pairs of really cool magnets. What I'm disappointed with is lack of appropriate information. Why was I told by a rigger AT Deland (which as far as I know is the home of UPT) that it was an approved mod, if it was never approved? Most importantly, if it's NOT an approved mod, why was it done to one of their rental rigs and why do they endorse/sell that mod? Some better communication would've been nice.
  9. Took about 35 minutes...and it was pretty entertaining. The 'main guy', who signed up my friend, is your typical smooth talker, with a dress shirt (from GAP, as I noted on the label of his untucked shirt), decent dress shoes and jeans that talked up a storm, gave examples of how people are getting into the business because it's the next biggest thing to hit the world since the invention of the wheel, yadda yadda yadda. Drives a 3 or 4 year old Benz 320. Then they split us up. The other guy who came in for the presentation was some manager from Stop&Shop, so my friend took him aside to another room, while the 'main guy' sat me down and laid the "..since you have two degrees and are seemingly better educated, let me tell you a few "secrets" of this business..." where he tried to convince me how great the company is. I asked him about the negative publicity, and took out the negative reviews that I had brought up in the browser on my iPhone...he stumbled a bit and said "...well, uh yeah those people just don't dive into it deeply enough and don't know how to take risks..." I told him "i'll think about it", thanked him and my friend (no need to be rude, right?) and walked out. Thinking of what origami to make out of the paper application they gave me.
  10. Hmm...giving sex involuntarily...are you the new "Pillow Biter"? Giving UP sex involuntarily...sheesh..get it right.
  11. Be careful about recording a conversation without permission. The laws vary from state to state. Some allow "one party" recording, which is where you can record the conversation without telling the others. Some, however, require both (or all) parties to the conversation be aware of the recording and consent to it. I'm not sure where you are, so look up your state here: http://www.rcfp.org/taping/index.html Good point wolf. Thanks for the heads up.

  15. I was smart, I am smart, and I will be smart..hence why I'm meeting with them and recording the whole conversation on my iPhone just for entertainment purposes.
  16. Thanks Not planning on it. I go to that bookstore to enjoy the free WIFI and do my work, so I might as well go early and get some work done...then get some entertainment.
  17. AHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! YES!!! He did mention that!! How the hell I forgot to post that I don't know...thanks for jogging my memory.
  18. Well, I just spoke with my friend and was able to pry some information out of him, which I think is by virtue of him slipping up and naming the 'business'...so I found this. Wealth Institute
  19. Are they offering, or are they wanting to know where to find them? Yes... Classic answer.
  20. ...former classmate form undergrad looks me up on Facebook and gets me on a phone conference with another friend of his. The lines I got were '...everyone is looking to make some money on the side in addition to their regular income...' and '..multi-million dollar business...' and '...we'll meet you with the regional rep who is a multi-millionaire, never had a college degree, yet she's one of the top in the field...' and '...this is a serious business opportunity and seeing as you're a college professor, we can tell that you'll be more serious about it then some average kid...' etc etc etc. So I agreed to meet with them for coffee at a bookstore to hear them out. What shall I expect? - MLM - Pyramid Scheme - Convincing others to buy products that are purchased through 'my website' and are sent to them from some warehouse - selling something door to door What else can I expect? I think I covered just about everything in my short list.
  21. Was it just a hard opening that got ya? Maybe I'm not seeing something here...
  22. +1 We will pick on each other for damn near anything, but there are lines you just DO NOT cross. Not sure if you were talking to me but I'm not picking on anyone...except reporters who don't give tow sh!ts about anyone. I just meant that in the military we will cross MANY of the normal civilized 'lines' but you don't cross that one. That's what I thought...just wanted to make sure you knew I wasn't picking on the military
