power and remote control for bullet cam
nacmacfeegle replied to gazza's topic in Photography and Video
For break away connectors you can use a pair of these. http://rswww.com/cgi-bin/bv/browse/Module.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@0036378289.1082970309@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccchadclfklkmhgcfngcfkmdgkldffm.0&cacheID=ukie&3260423288=3260423288&catoid=-76210231 RS components, or decent Hifi shops will be able to help. Sorry about the huge link, I'm mark up challenged. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Hey Lori, I've heard some horror stories about the gunk (binder?) from different tape brands reacting and setting like epoxy on heads. This is terminal and beyond economic repair in most cases. I thought the problem was largely solved now, and the main culprit appreared to be.....Sony tapes! NB this normally only ocurred when you mixed Sony tapes with other brands. For what its worth I've used Panasonics almost exclusively in both my Sony cam, and my Sony portable deck, with very few problems. Anyways, its not a good idea to change brands willy nilly, find a brand and stick to them. Clean the heads with a proper head cleaner, but not unless you are getting dropouts, blanks, or unusual camera performance. Don't overclean, and follow the instructions that come with the cleaner tape. Pelican cases rock, they are built like an Aggie's truck, and can take much more abuse. They are even pressure tight, so if you close them in a dry atmosphere there should be absolutely no condensation, until you open the box........ -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. THis reminds me of the 'smelly down there' thread a while back, which for the life of me I can't find. But it was funny as hell. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. North Korean Train Collision - 3k casualties is initial report
nacmacfeegle replied to lawrocket's topic in Speakers Corner
Beeb confirms a similar number, but also advises it was train load of explosives. "North Korean government sources have been quoted as saying it was triggered when two train carriages carrying dynamite came into contact with a live power cable." http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/3651705.stm -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Its purty, sparkles, and its bigger than our galaxy.....what more could a gal ask for? Down side is it will probably only last another 300 million years. "What, if anything, are you doing to celebrate St. George's Day?" Drink lots of Scotch Whisky, Scottish beer, watch Braveheart, and moan about the overspend on the Scottish Parliament Building. Just joking, I'm sure you'll appreciate a little friendly cross border craic. Happy St George's day to all.

"I like BBC as well, but remember that -all- of the "official" state sponsored news services have a bit of a bent to them." Well, yes and no, during the Falklands conflict for example the BBC fell out big style with our incumbent government over allegations ammounting to treason! I reckon the BBC do a pretty fair job of reporting news in a relatively unbiased way, regardless of political influences. Their website and news appears pretty reliable for example. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Bush taking action to lower gas costs...
nacmacfeegle replied to PhillyKev's topic in Speakers Corner
"there is no direct connection between emissions and global warming and ultimately the end of the world." So what is causing global climate change, El Nino anomalies, loss of polar icecaps and ice fields from mountains? If you reply by saying you don't know, don't you think that CO2 emmisions, ODPs etc may have some indirect effect? Perhaps even accelerating a natural cycle beyond mother earth's ability to restore balance naturally. Remember when everyone thought the world was flat, and that Earth was at the centre of the universe. Scientific opinion changes, and there's a lot of scientific opinion out there that believes we are influencing climate change. Not necessarily the end of the world, but maybe the end of large areas of Texas, Florida, Holland etc. "only humans could be so conceted to believe that they could control the weather" Not control but have an effect on it, certainly, you can't deny that, we've been seeding clouds for years. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. "That basically means fingerprints. You can get them in the UK, but you have to go to London, Belfast, and maybe Edinburgh, but I'm not sure about that last one. I think it means you have to go to a consulate, not just a post office (if that's where you get them). " One used to be able to apply for pasports at the post office, well, they would give you the forms and we would post them off to the passport office. In Scotland the passport office is in Glasgow, which is where you either sent the forms, or walked them through the system and waited if you needed the passport urgently. I'm guessing you will have to go there to get your biometric data (finger prints, etc but I don't think DNA is involved yet) coded. If we desire to visit Uncle Sam, I believe we will have to go to the US consulate for the visa, the consulate in Edinburgh will not process visa applications, so a trip down to the big smoke is in order. Frank mentioned that this would add 100 quid to a trip to the US, not so in my case, over a grand factoring in time off work, travel to London, overnight hotel etc. Does anyone know how all this affects those of us lucky enough to have a valid work visa for the US? -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. "Sadly Bush is trying to lower the cost of gas by reducing pollution control requirements." Yes I know , its one of my soap box favourites. I thought it might be some sort of justice, you know, if the war is about oil, then those who consume it should pay for it. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Due to the style of American elections, each protagonist trying to illuminate the other's failings, I reckon a close race provides more entertainment. A better fight, if you like. From an outsider's viewpoint anyways. "Maybe we can keep partisanship out of this. " Hah! not likely. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Military Coffins: The Photos You're Not Supposed to See
nacmacfeegle replied to PhillyKev's topic in Speakers Corner
Photographs of the coffins in themselves are not disprespectful. Their use, for political gain or propoganda is. The fallen deserve some dignity for their final journey home. For example in the other thread there was an import/export captioned image, with import being the guys emplaning and export being the return of the coffins. Highly disrespectful and inexcusable in my mind. If the contractors and their employees have been specifically advised not to capture these images, for whatever reason, and their staff insist on taking them anyways, then they should face suitable disciplinary action. As was the case here I believe. Skyrad, the mosaic collages are powerful, but the medium of the internet doesn't do them justice. The similar Myra Hindley moasaic for example made from children's hand prints in particular struck me, as that particular image her always struck me as capturing a latent nastiness. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. "One of the proposals was to have a "war tax" when we're at war, because, well, war is expensive." Tax your gasoline. It would reduce reliance on foreign oil, help with your trade deficit, help clean up the environment, lower traffic congestion, maybe some people would take a little exercise, etc etc etc. Just a thought. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. I reckon if you watch the site for a month or so, you can get a pretty good idea who is trustworthy, reliable, and how they are likely to vote for! It all depends on the context, I try not to judge people on their jump numbers or years in sport, but on their input to the site, and general attitude. EG I've learned, and continue to learn from people with lower numbers than I. If you have one person mind, you can click on their profile and see all their posts, this may give an insight into their character and knowledge. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Bin Laden is also a bit of an odd case. He is now implicated in so many crimes in a variety of countries that he might end up facing charges in any number of those countries, with or without death penalty in those countries. I would be pretty ambivalent if a country were to waive their highly held principles regarding extradition, or even appoint a special commission to try him. That decision would be up to the administration of the country that had him in custody. I do maintain that executing him, or Saddam, would not be beneficial to suppressing terror globally. I also recognise that the US needs closure on the 9/11 episode, and that OBL's head on a stick would go a long way to achieving that. What I'm basically driving at is, I have no easy answer to the situation. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Switch it on and drop it from 14000. Seriously, if it takes firewire in, it could be used as a target deck on an editing setup, which would also work as an analogue/dv convertor, so if you plug a portable TV in, and/or a VCR, you get a better quality view of the end edit. It might save wear and tear on the Sony You could use it master editing techniques, so when you are ready to capture your own footage, you don't have to go through the editing learning curve. Or you could duct tape it to a wing/strut and use the remote to get exit shots from unusual angles etc. Use your imagination. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me. Anti Gravity has a nice sequence of the battle between the French and US 8 way teams at world level in Gap from a few years back. A lot of their exits were filmed from an acompanying aircraft, and shows some stuff that may be beneficial. Bush taking action to lower gas costs...
nacmacfeegle replied to PhillyKev's topic in Speakers Corner
"Actually, it's a bunch of people who want to pollute the air and make my kids sick. You don't have the right to do that any more than I have the right to toss my trash over the fence into your yard." One might be tempted to extend this analogy to a global level. It may even be time to discuss the Kyoto accord, and the reluctance of two major world polluters to sign it. One of those countries produces 25% of the world's CO2 emmisions and has no plans whatsoever to reduce their contribution to this sorry state of affairs. -------------------- He who receives an idea from me, receives instruction himself without lessening mine; as he who lights his taper at mine, receives light without darkening me.
